9. THE BEGINNING
Born as Norma Jeane
Mortenson on June 1,
1926 in Los Angeles,
California but later on
changed her name to
Marilyn Monroe.
Marilyn spent many of
her childhood years in
and out of foster
homes.
13. CHILDHOOD
On several occasions at the
age of 12 Marilyn had been
assaulted by Doc Goddard
who was a member of the
adoptive family. After the
assaults she was sent to live
with her Aunt Olive who
lived in Compton,
California. This move did
not last long as she was
sexual assaulted again by
one of Olives sons.
16. CHILDHOOD
Marilyn attended Van Nuys High School. While
attending she met a neighbors son names James
Dougherty(also known as Jim). Soon Grace suggested
to Dougherty’s mother that Jim marry her so that she
would not have to return to foster care. Jim was at first
opposed to the idea because Marilyn was only sixteen
years of age. He finally changed his mind and married
her after she graduated from high school in advance in
June 1942.
20. STARTING HER CAREER
While her husband was in the
Merchant Marine, Marilyn found
employment in the Radioplane
Munitions Factory. While working
An Army photographer snapped a
photograph of her for a magazine
article and encouraged her to apply
to The Blue Book Modeling
Agency. Marilyn quickly signed with
the agency. She was told that they
were looking for models with lighter
hair, so Marilyn bleached her
brunette hair to what we are most
familiar with, a golden blonde.
24. POSSIBILITIES
Marilyn started to appear on dozens
of magazine covers. Her husband
James was unaware of Marilyn’s
new job until he discovered one of
his shipmates praise a revealing
photo of her in a magazine. James
Dougherty wrote her many letters
which informed her that once he
returned from service, she would
have to give up her modeling.
Marilyn saw the possibilities of a
modeling and acting career and
decided then to divorce James.
28. ACTING
Her modeling brought her to the
attention of Ben Lyon who was an
executive for 20th Century Fox. She
had a screen test and he loved her.
Marilyn was then offered a 6 month
contract and a salary salary of $125
a week. However, Ben did not like
the name Norma Jean so at this
time she changed it to Marilyn
Monroe.
32. ACTING
She acted in several movies
and T.V. series but her
contract was running up.
Unemployed, Marilyn posed
nude under the name Mona
Monroe for $50. In the same
year she was crowned Miss.
California Artichoke Queen.
Then in 1948 she signed
another 6 month contract
with Columbia Pictures to
do more acting.

34. Marilyn continued
playing small roles in
movies while attending
UCLA, but in March of
1952 her nude photos
were featured in a
calendar(marilyn).
During this time she
had been seeing Joe
DiMaggio and had to
confess.
38. MARRIED AND DIVORCED AGAIN
Again, she continued acting.
Marilyn and Joe DiMaggio then
got married in San Francisco on
January 14, 1954(Wikipedia).Wile
Marilyn filmed a scene for The
Seven Year Itch in New York air
from a subway blows her dress up
as a large crowed was
watching(wikipedia). “Among the
crowd was Joe DiMaggio, who was
reported to have been infuriated by
the spectacle”(wikipedia). They
then got a divorce in November
1958(wikipedia).
42. HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Marilyn continued to act and on
May 19, 1962, Marilyn made her
last significant public appearance,
singing Happy Birthday Mr.
President at a birthday party for
President John F. Kennedy at
Madison Square Garden(wikipedia).
To the event, she wore a specially
designed dress that was later sold at
an auction in 1999 for $1.26
million(wikipedia). Marilyn
reportedly had a affair with John F.
Kennedy(marilyn).
46. DEATH OF MARILYN
On August 5, 1962 at the
age of 36 Marilyn Monroe
died(marilyn). She was
found with an empty bottle
of sleeping pills by her bed.
The death was officially
ruled as a drug
overdose(marilyn). “She still
remains popular today as an
icon of sex appeal and
beauty”(marilyn).
