Degree of satisfaction of the 4th year Catalan Family Medicine trainees
Methods
Descriptive study conducted by completing a
questionnaire via web. Google Drive platform
was used both to do the survey as to analyse the
responses statistically. Two e-mail invitations
were sent to all 4th year FMT in Catalonia using
the offices of the Training centres.
Research and analysis of data took place during
the first quarter of 2014.
Response rate: 30.7%.
•53.6% and 31.9% of the respondents stated that
they were satisfied or very satisfied with the rural
rotation.
•When asked about their usefulness, 44.9% and
37.7% respectively said they agree or fully agree
with the statement that this rotation is essential
for their training as family doctors.
•30.4% and 49.3% of respondents also claim that
all or most of their prior expectations were
completed.
Conclusions
•Despite a low response rate, according to the
results of our study, we can confirm that Catalan
FMT have a high degree of satisfaction with their
rural rotation.
•They see it as a very necessary step in order to
complete their training as Family Doctors.
•Their prior expectations about this training
period were fulfilled to a high degree.
Since 2005 “rural rotation” is a compulsory
training period in Spain for all Family Medicine
Trainees (FMT). In the initial stages of its
implementation some doubts about its suitability
and utility for young family doctors emerged.
The aim of this study is to know the degree of
satisfaction, utility and fulfilment of previous
expectations in Catalan FMT in their 4th year of
training after completing the rural rotation.
