If a fire or smoke is seen, notify staff to call a Code Red. Follow the RACE procedure: Rescue anyone in danger, sound the Alarm by pulling the fire alarm pull box, help Contain the fire and close all doors, and either Extinguish the fire if possible or Evacuate. The Command Post location during an emergency is the Business Office or alternate Lounge. If evacuation is necessary, patients will be discharged home if possible or transferred to the treating hospital. All staff, patients and visitors will exit through the front, double doors, or rear doors. The emergency is over when the alarm stops and an all clear is announced. – The Internal Panic Button notifies the
Staff of an emergency within the Center.

• UMDNJ Public Safety responds to fires, emergencies at
The Stone Center
• The Newark Fire Department responds to any fires at
The Stone Center
• When the external panic button is pushed, a UMDNJ
Police Office will respond to The Stone Center
• At the entrance doors there is a camera to monitor who
comes in to The Center. All are “buzzed” into The
Stone Center
• The Stone Center has its own Security System
• There are fire alarm pull boxes by the front door, double
doors and rear door in The Stone Center
