nonprofit sector.
Not only are organizations of all sizes
experiencing skyrocketing demand from
people in need, but CDC recommendations
around social distancing and shelter-in-place
have forced many to close their doors and to
layoff or furlough employees.
We are too important, too vital to stay silent in
the face of this crisis.
#GivingTuesdayNow came about to jumpstart
philanthropy and generosity right now, when
we need it most.

The day is designed to drive

GOFUNDME CHARITY IS GIVING
$300,000 TO NONPROFITS!
GoFundMe Charity will, through its sister charity, GoFundMe.org,
issue $1,000 matching grants to qualifying nonprofits to help alleviate their
financial burdens during these uncertain times.
To qualify for a grant, you must:
1. Start a #GivingTuesdayNow campaign on GoFundMe Charity.
2. Explain in your campaign story how the COVID-19 pandemic has
impacted your nonprofit or how your nonprofit is aiding COVID-19
related causes.
3. Raise at least $1000 online from ten or more donations through your
GoFundMe Charity campaign.

Note: It’s best if you
use your charity staff

because it will speed

CLAIM YOUR CHARITY
Search for your nonprofit on the Find Your Nonprofit page.
You can use your charity’s name or tax ID number for the most
accurate results. Identify your organization from the results.
Be sure to cross reference with your tax ID to make sure you claim
the correct charity.
Hover your cursor over the listing and click the green Claim Nonprofit
button.
NOTE: If you see a button that says Request Access to Nonprofit
instead of Claim Nonprofit, it means that someone else from your
organization has already claimed your account.
In this case, click the button to Request Access and someone from

Once you’ve claimed your charity,
the GoFundMe team will officially
verify your involvement with the

This process usually takes 24-48
hours.
You’ll receive an email for verifying
your account with a pin. Use that pin

In the Tell Your Story section, clearly spell out how the
funds will be used.
What is the impact? What makes this campaign urgent,
timely, and relevant?
For example, Goodwill Detroit says in their campaign:

and front line workforce who are dramatically impacted by
the COVID -19 pandemic.

1. Choose theme colors.
2. Choose a header logo, which can be your logo or a logo of a
business partner/match donor.
3. Link your logo back to any website URL you choose.
4. Customize the Facebook share image and text so that it is easy to
share and looks great on social media feeds.

TIPS ON CHOOSING THE RIGHT
SETTINGS
We recommend:
1. Let people set up new fundraisers. This can be disabled if you are running
a timed campaign or a challenge and you need to limit the number of
campaigns set up on your behalf.
2. Do not hide donation dollar amounts. Individual donors can hide their
dollar amount after they give if they choose.
3. Do not allow offline donations on the campaign page from individual
donors. Your nonprofit organization CAN manually go in and add offline
donations. It is important not to let the individual donors do this, because
offline donations do NOT count towards the GoFundMe Charity
#GivingTuesdayNow $1,000 match.
4. Social Amp button should be set to on. The most successful campaigns
allow supporters to share the campaign on social media and with their
networks.

The Email Manager allows nonprofits to customize the emails that are
sent from GofundMe Charity when your supporters take specific
actions on the site.
Some of the emails you can customize:
Donation Receipt: All donors get a tax deductible receipt and you can
add your contact information
Thank you email: A personalized thank you note to donors.
Join the team: Edit this to provide strategic tips for fundraisers, to get
them excited and motivated and thank them, to give them your
contact information for help.
Emails to encourage your fundraisers to continue with the campaign
if they haven’t set a goal or haven’t raised any money (these emails

Use compelling language and imagery.
Always include a call-to-action in the body of
your message to drive donations.
Send out at least three big email blasts to your
constituents. We suggest sending before,
during, and after your campaign.
Send an additional dedicated email after your
campaign is over thanking and sharing your
success with your donors and fundraisers.
They key to getting your emails opened is to
make sure that each communication is different
and adds value.
Include campaign elements like what will the
funds be used for and why this is important, as
well as updates on your progress towards the
campaign goal.

Don’t just ask for money. Give updates on your progress, share
stories, provide data on the problem.
Content
In your social media content, always include the direct URL to your
campaign with a clear and concise call to donate, or to start a
fundraiser.
Photo and video
Photo and video are the leading forms of content on social media in
terms of engagement.
Vary
Vary your social media content across the platforms that you use.
What works on Instagram may not necessarily work on LinkedIn, etc.
Encourage
Encourage your supporters to share on your behalf. This enables your
message and campaign to go even further across social networks.
KEEP IN CONTACT
WITH YOUR
FUNDRAISERS
Communicate with your Team through the GoFundMe
platform.
Give them strategic tips to raise more money and get
more engagement with their campaign.
Get them exited and motivated!
Thank them for their generosity.
Provide updates on the total campaign and progress.
Give them tools and content like graphics, photos,
videos to share with their network.
Be accessible for those who need help with their
campaign. Who can they call and email?

KEEPING YOUR DONORS UPDATED
Those who regularly use the Campaign Update tool see more
returning donors and visitors to their campaigns than those who
don’t!
How to Post a Campaign Update using GoFundMe Charity:
1. Select the Campaign Manage view for your campaign.
2. Locate the Campaign Update section.
3. Craft your message in the space provided.
4. Click Preview to confirm that everything looks correct.
5. Click Publish when you are ready to post and send to your donors.

Using the Campaign Update tool at strategic
times during your campaign (such as halfway or
close-to goal) helps generate excitement and a
sense of urgency in your donors.
Use photos to convey impact.
Snap a live video of your work in the field (where
possible).
Send it out to everyone that donated to
demonstrate impact.
Announce stretch goals.
Thank people for donating, and ask them to
consider starting their own fundraiser!

TIPS FOR MAKING DONORS FEEL
APPRECIATED
We recommend using the Thanking Donors tool in your GoFundMe
platform in addition to sending a more formal thank you, such as a
personal email or letter.
Customize the Thank You tool template in the Email Manager.
You can use engagement tools like CauseVid or BombBomb to send
video emails in this time of social distancing.
Use the GoFundMe campaign update tool and let your supporters
know that they are a part of it all. For example, “We're halfway to our
goal of raising $2,000 because of your generosity and support.”

Note: It’s best if you use your charity staff email on this form because it will speed up the verification process.
  • 12. CLAIM YOUR CHARITY Search for your nonprofit on the Find Your Nonprofit page. You can use your charity’s name or tax ID number for the most accurate results. Identify your organization from the results. Be sure to cross reference with your tax ID to make sure you claim the correct charity. Hover your cursor over the listing and click the green Claim Nonprofit button. NOTE: If you see a button that says Request Access to Nonprofit instead of Claim Nonprofit, it means that someone else from your organization has already claimed your account. This can be disabled if you are running a timed campaign or a challenge and you need to limit the number of campaigns set up on your behalf. 2. Do not hide donation dollar amounts. Individual donors can hide their dollar amount after they give if they choose. 3. Do not allow offline donations on the campaign page from individual donors. Your nonprofit organization CAN manually go in and add offline donations. It is important not to let the individual donors do this, because offline donations do NOT count towards the GoFundMe Charity #GivingTuesdayNow $1,000 match. 4. Social Amp button should be set to on. They key to getting your emails opened is to make sure that each communication is different and adds value.
