2. WHAT IS IT?
MIT WEB is a weekend long event that allows
students to create web/mobile products, work in
teams, analyze target markets and get advice from
experts in their community.
3. WHY?
Two of MIT’s strongest areas are computers and business
Many MIT students go on to start companies
MIT has some of the smartest people in the world
Many Boston/Cambridge/NYC startup founders are on the
lookout for MIT caliber talent
The idea behind MIT WEB is to facilitate real-world
preparation and networking
4. HOW WOULD IT WORK?
Kickoff: a Saturday in February at 9am, 50-100 students from around campus have
gathered
Breakfast: served during an intro speech by a Boston/Cambridge-based startup
founder
Challenge: "build an interactive web app catering to 12-16 year olds" or "build a
mobile app to allow me to manage some aspect of my small business" or maybe
even more open ended (topic TBD)
Groups: students meet or recruit additional members to form teams of 5 (exact
number TBD)
Technical startup advisors visit the groups to consult on how they will make their
product
Marketing startup advisors visit the groups and consult on how they will learn about
the market for their product. In some cases discovering the market will be so
intense that the final product will be an idea based on data rather than a prototype.
Lunch and Dinner is provided, each with another speaker
Sunday will be just like Saturday without the morning speaker
Lunch will be provided with one final speaker (keynote)
Dinner will begin presentations and critiques by the judges, followed by awards all
wrapping up by 11pm
5. WHAT NEXT?
Recruit co-organizers
Plan details (location, date, catering, resources, prizes,
marketing, sponsorship)
Recruit 4 speakers and 4 advisors
Raise $5k
