Jung's Two Essays on Analytical Psychology includes the works The Unconscious in the Normal
and Pathological Mind and The Relation of the Ego to the Unconscious, which are 1928 revisions of
previously written papers. Jung, who was Freud's well–known disciple from 1909 to 1914, held
ideas different from Freud's and Adler's that eventually led to personal differences between them,
particularly with Freud; their followers have continued these differences. One of the point of
disagreement is Jung's opinion that Freud's concept of the libido is too concerned with sexuality

Jung believed that psychic energy had its foundation in the tension of opposites; this energy could

neurosis, with the first focusing the object and the second emphasized the subject, are viewed as
manifestations of an oppositional type. The introverted personality type focuses on the subject while
the extraversion type focuses on the object; however, these two types are rare observed in their
unadulterated state. Moreover, the dynamics of a relationship between individuals who retain
contradictory personality types was examined by Jung. Alternatively, to contrast with the concepts of
Freud and Adler, they describe neuroses as sometimes allocating useful adaptive functions.

process of transference within psychotherapy. He suggests that the traditional method of dream

Textual Argument Analysis
Through the argumentative essay my skills in using textual evidence improved greatly. Before this
essay I had never had to cite quotes using MLA format. I struggled with this not only in my works
cited page but in the essay itself as well. If the presentation of the quote is incorrect why would the
quote itself be? With this in mind I found the errors in my argumentative essay and fixed them. In
one case I had cited Major's experiment as Thoreau's. This was a simple misunderstanding but none
the less it takes away from the paper when a strong point was being made. The large amount of
possible textual evidence allowed me to make a strong argument. With so much to pick from I could

"creature" Hamlet perceives. Hamlet's ad hominem attacks against his mother and her morality,
however, are reasonable in Shakespeare's society, which, headed by a "Virgin Queen", places an
unparalleled emphasis on female chastity. In fact, Hamlet becomes increasingly disillusioned with
his world when his mother's "o'erhasty marriage" betrays the ideal image of womanhood and
motherhood. This corruption of family values inspired Hamlet's detestation of his mother and the
inclusion of her foul actions in his direction of "The Murder of Gonzago". A genre convention of
revenge tragedies, this meta–theatrical portrayal of Gertrude reflects Hamlet's disappointment in her
actions and equates her moral corruption with Claudius' political villainy. Also in accordance with
the genre, verisimilitude is used to develop dramatic tension through the audience's confusion about
what is real and what is false – echoing the moral ambiguity inherent to Gertrude's character. In a
personified statement about acting and the nature of the theatrum mundi, Hamlet states that "the
purpose of playing...was and is...to hold as 'twere the mirror up to nature", supporting the
interpretation that his hatred for his mother was projected onto the negative portrayal of the "Player
Queen". Thus, this disappointment in his mother's betrayal that symbolises the moral corruption of
