What are we dealing with?
• Historic Press Archives, founded in 1909 (Hamburg) and 1914 (Kiel),
collections closed in 2005
• Clippings from > 1500 newspapers all over the world
• Digitized in DFG funded project 2004-2007
• One million documents available online
• 25,000 thematic dossiers covering
o Persons
o Companies
o Products
o General subjects and events
5. Wikidata as a plattform for the folder metadata
• Since recently, all PM20 metadata under CC0
• Wikidata property „PM20 folder ID“ (P4293) for links
• Matching with Wikidata tools
o > 90 % of persons folders are already linked
• Based on the mapping, step by step other properties from PM20
(e.g., birth dates of persons) can added automatically
• Missing Wikidata items can be added automatically
• Wikidata interfaces and APIs for discovery, access and further
metadata enhancement and maintenance
