3. Now the feast
the Unleavened
Bread, called the
Passover, was
drawing near
and plans were
being made for
a way to dispose
of Christ.
5. Luke 22 — UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
"Then, taking bread and giving
thanks, He broke it and gave it to
them, saying: 'This is My body to be
given for you. Do this as a
remembrance of Me.' " —22:19
In the midst of Judas' betrayal, Jesus gave us His body and
blood in Holy Communion. In the midst of Peter's denials,
Jesus suffered out of love for Peter. In the midst of our
sinfulness, Jesus continues to love us unconditionally. "It is
rare that anyone should lay down his life for a just man,
barely possible that for a good man someone may have the
courage to die. It is precisely in this that God proves His
love for us; that while we were still sinners, Christ died for
us" (Rm 5:7-8).
8. LUKE 22:24-30
THE ROLE OF THE DISCIPLES II
• Who is the greatest among us?
• Judas as well as the Disciples are
betrayers
• We are all like Judas in disguise
20. Lk 23 — YOU DIED FOR ME
"Jesus uttered a loud cry and said, 'Father, into Your hands I
commend My Spirit.' " —23:46
"Jesus, Judas betrayed You. Peter denied You three times. All the
apostles abandoned You. Herod mocked You. The crowd and Pilate let
themselves be manipulated into crucifying You. And I also shared in
Your crucifixion through my sins. Forgive us; we don't know what
we're doing." "And Jesus replied, 'I assure you, this day you will be
with Me in paradise.' " (23:43)
21. AWESOME FAITH
The Dying Criminal had more faith that the rest
of Jesus’ followers. All put to shame their
hope for the Kingdom was shattered.
Most have gone into hiding. As one of the follower
sadly said a day later, “we had thought he was the
Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. 24:12
Such a statement would indicate defeat by
contrast the criminal look at Jesus who was dying
next to him and said, “ Jesus, remember me when
you come into your kingdom”
By all appearances the Kingdom was The
criminal’s statement depicts the awesome faith o
this man who alone saw beyond his present
shame and was led into the coming Glory.
26. WITNESS TO CHRIST’S
RESURRECTION
Jesus was put to death by crucifixion
He was buried in the tomb by a man named
Joseph, from Arimathea
The tomb was found empty with days of his burial
After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to a
number of people. In only one of those cases,
involving Paul,was the appearance clearly
described as a vision.
The Disciples.who had left doubting and
somewhat defeated by the crucifixion of Christ,
wre quickly transformed by his resurrection, and
then went out to organize their efforts to spread
Jesus’ message to the entire world.
33. Lk 24 — ALIVE AND WELL FOREVER
"The Lord has been raised! It is true!" —24:34
Alleluia! Jesus is alive! He is risen from the dead! We meet the
risen Christ not by seeing His glorified, physical body but by
hearing His word. After our hearts burn inside through the
power of His word, we recognize the risen Christ through the
breaking of the bread. Then the risen Lord clothes us with the
Spirit's power, and we become witnesses of the risen Jesus to all
nations.
As Jesus taught and administrated to the 12 disciples he tried to share with them his wisdom of teaching and His miracles of healing. Jesus is repeatedly criticized and dismissed by the religious community for not having what they call “formal” training like the Pharisees did. The common people, however quickly realized Christ as a gifted teacher who possessed great authority and they gathered in great numbers to hear Him teach. As we have studied Luke’s gospel over the last 9 weeks we have learned that for some three years, Jesus traveled back and forth, mainly through the small area of Galilee. His home area, and Judea, the center of Jewish religion, sharing both his healings and teachings. For someone who has had the greatest impact of any man who ever lived, Jesus’ travels were very limited. Galilee was only 44 miles long and 25 miles wide, while Judea is even smaller. One may ask, How did Jesus have such a great impact on the glove when her preached in such a small area? Jesus’ disciples are the reason, with their empowerment by God’s Spirit, Jesus took a band of 12 ordinary men and in three years trained them into a force that shakes the very foundation of the world as they take their later message of Jesus’ resurrection and His offer of forgiveness of sin to the ends of the world. It is through the authority of Christ, given to the disciples that His mission is accomplished through the evangelization of the Word of God. We too are are called to be His disciples and with the same authority embrace the teachings of Christ and to evangelize to all those who we meet.
This teaching will reflect on the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Savior.. Luke’s Gospel shows how Jesus was the perfect man given as the perfect sacrifice for the sin of all people. Christ is the ideal human-the perfect model for us to follow. We must stand in awe of His character, His strength and his obedience to God. He met humanity’s highest ideals as well as God’s demand for an atonement for sin. He is , at one and the same time our model and our Savior.
Read Luke 22:1-13You this is in all the and you see the Eucharist is placed between the two of betrayal passage, and in the teaching in his when we gather around the table of the Lord. We must be empowered to true Christian service. We must be willing to take on the very mind and heart of Christ, who freely suffered and died for us. In verses 7 through 13 the fact that Jesus seemed to have the Passover all prepared. He knew exactly where it was going to be in how to get it all worked. It shows that he had foreknowledge and foreknowledge this other side coinage for you for knowledge he knew all about it the way into it freely and so we as Christians know we're going to go through some hard times. And we are supposed to take up the cross freely”
Read Luke 22:14-20When I read this passage I think about John 10 where Christ says “No one takes my life from me, I give it up freely” We should be able to say the same thing. So that foreknowledge shows that we have to be free like Jesus and then the fact that in verse 15. Jesus says “I have eagerly desire to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” It shows that we should have a tremendous desire to be a true disciple, to be a true brother and sister in Christ, to really enter into Christian service and that we should have such a desire, not only do we freely do it not only do we desire it, but we do it even knowing that their will be suffering because after the Passover Jesussuffered. So these aspects of service. service. Freedom, suffering, desire these are all the aspects of the Eucharist. We might think that the Eucharist doesn’t have all that involved in it. That is what the Eucharist is to do here and then if we enter into the Eucharist in that way, then we will be empowered Like in I verse 16 “I will not eat again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” And in verse 18 “I tell you from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the coming of the reign of God It talks about the reign of God. And he says I am not going to do this until the reign of God. When did the reign of God start? Well when Jesus was hanging on the cross the good thief said, “Remember me when you enter upon your reign.” Jesus said, “Today is my reign” Today I will be with you in paradise. Jesus is saying The reign of God will begin when I die and the paschal mystery is put into effect and arrives in Act 3:5. It says; the Eucharist puts us in touch with the reign of God, with the power of God, with the kingdom of God, we are empowered and we have authority. We have authority through the Eucharist if we enter into it with the right spirit, with the spirit of dying, of giving, of serving, of suffering freely. If we entered into with the right spirit we will be empowered. But now of course the apostles they were just like Judas, they were betrayers but only in a much more subtle way. They entered into the Eucharist and they came out of it arguing about who was the greatest but in a way you can say that none of them were the greatest unless you want to talk about the greatest sinner. You might say what this all has to do with the Eucharist. You may want to say it the other way around what does the Eucharist have to do with this? Because the main message here is that the Eucharist will make you a true disciple. The Eucharist will empower you, and that's the message here. It is not about who is the greatest, but how important the Eucharist is. That is what the Eucharist is to do here and then if we enter into the Eucharist in that way, then we will be empowered Like in verse 16 “for, I tell you, I shallnot eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” And in verse 18 “I tell you from this time on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes” Here Luke talks about the reign of God. And he says I am not going to do this until the reign of God comes.
In the midst of Judas' betrayal, Jesus gave us His body and blood in Holy Communion. In the midst of Peter's denials, Jesus suffered out of love for Peter. In the midst of our sinfulness, Jesus continues to love us unconditionally. "It is rare that anyone should lay down his life for a just man, barely possible that for a good man someone may have the courage to die. It is precisely in this that God proves His love for us; that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Rm 5:7-8).
Read Luke 22:21-23I want to emphasis verse 21, “and yet the hand of my betrayer is with me at this table.” In Father Al’s teaching he spoke about how The Son of Man is following out his appointed course, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed. The son of Man is following out his appointed course that is what was taught in the last lesson. We should just be following out our appointed course. We have been appointed to do something in this world and we may be facing difficulties, there may be many things that may try to derail us. But we should just follow our appointed course. Many times we fall short of God’s glory and want to do it our way and at times we may even rebuke or deny him in our very own silence in not following our appointed mission set by God. We are all called to be a disciple of Christ. How many of us see something that is wrong and simply turn our heads and look the other way, failing to do God’s will? But If we don't follow our appointed course and do the will of God , who are we? We are Judas Iscariot. The betrayer. You can say “I never took any money; I never sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver? If you aren't following out your appointed course you are considered a betrayer. You have betrayed your mission.
Read Luke 22;24-30n verse 28 shows that he's not talking just to the apostles, but the emphasis here is to the Lukian community of the 80’s as it is always. It says you are the ones who stood loyally by me in my temptation. In would be hard to see that apply in the 30’s but in the 80’s; he is trying encouraging the Christian community. You done some good things. And then it says that you can be empowered if you enter into the Eucharist with the right spirit, yes you will. In 29, “I for my part have assigned you the dominion my father has assigned to me. You will take on the power of Jesus Christ if you enter into the Eucharist in a proper way, as a servant, as a suffering servant in Jesus. In my Kingdom you will eat and drink at my table, there the Eucharist and Kingdom are united. You will sit on thrones, judging the 12 tribes of Israel, some people misunderstand this passage and think that means if you go to mass you get to go to heaven and then you’ll be on top. On the throne judging the 12 tribes of Israel means that when you go to mass you will be empowered with the spirit of God and you will be use mightily by the Lord in authority on the face of this earth. So judging the 12 tribes of Israel and sitting on thrones, that’s why we are here on the earth. Of course it continues when we go to heaven.
Read Luke 22:24-30I want to emphasize that when the Disciples begin to argue among themselves as to which is the greatest that is a betrayal of everything that Jesus was trying to teach them. It is a betray that they were using among themselves. They are not working enough and all have been appointed a course and they sit an argue about being a betrayer and why they are arguing this is an act of betrayal in it self. Here is Christ telling them that the hand of the one who betrays him is at the table and they argue about it. Then a dispute arises between them about who should be regarded as the greatest. That’s another betrayal. Judas is in all of us. Judas is in our laziness, in our lack of acknowledgments of the wrongs we see, Judas is in our pride and haughtiness. Judas is in all of us. Father Al pointed out that the Eucharist is placed between these two betrayal passages.
Read Luke 22:31-34Now we have Simon, Jesus speaks to him, “Simon, Simon”, remember, he is putting back before Peter. He used to be called Peter and Simon before that... It just shows that when you do not enter in the Eucharist in the right spirit, when you do not have a servant heart,You kind of go back to b.c. before you were born again. Before you were baptized. Before you had a new nature You start living back in your old nature and you get your old name back, Simon, Simon. Satan has sifted you all out. We got to pray for you as your faith will never fail. The Lord is praying for us. Thank God, You in turn you must strengthen your brother.
Read Luke 22:35-38Lord, he said, to him “At your side I’s prepared to face and imprisonment and death itself. No pious platitude at the Eucharist will count for anything. You can tell the God, you love him. I will give my life to you, I will do anything for you and it just like Peter talking after the last supper, Jesus would get a hold of you during that the Mass, if he could talk to you and say ‘You are going to deny my all day long and you’re here telling me all these good things at mass. And once we are out of touch with the Lord. Everything is off. Our born again life is kind of shot. It says, ”When I sent you on mission without purse, traveling bags or sandals where you in need of anything? “Not a thing. I told you the different dynamics of the Christian Life and it always worked didn’t it? Yeah. But it doesn’t work anymore. You might as well get a purse, a traveling bag, you better get a sword, if you have to sell your coat to get one, and it’s worth it. It doesn’t work anymore when you are not touch with the Lord. The Christian life works as long as you are in communion. But when you are out of communion, you are out of it. Then He talks about being in communion further with the agony of the garden.’
Read Luke 22:39-46It is not only the Eucharist but it is our whole life of prayer, we need to be in communion, if we are not in communion we won’t make it. It says in 40; “Pray that you may not be put to the test.” It says in 46, “Wake up and pray that you may not be subjected to the trial. You will not be in authority, you will not be in dominion, and you will be a loser if you lose your contact with the Lord”. If you don’t have that Eucharistic communion, if you don’t have that prayer communion. Then when the chips are down you will rely on earthly things. You will get a sword and you’ll try to cut off somebody’s ear. . And the lord will have to say to you, As he says in 38 and 51 “Enough of this.” And you will just go on denying Christ 3 times. And he will not stop until finally the Lord gets through to you..
Read Luke 22:47-53
“The Lord turned around and looked at Peter and Peter remembered the word Jesus spoken to him and thenPeter went out and wept bitterly. And you see Jesus on trial standing before the sanadrin. So strong, so much in authority. Able to take all this abuse. While Peter couldn’t even stand up to a servant girl. It just shows you when you are in communion you are in power. When you’re not in communion nothing works and you are a betrayer. So Father. We just ask that we would always be in communion with you and with your son Jesus. Oh Lord may we repent of any wordliness, anything that is not of your will, may we repent and weep as Peter did.
Read Luke 22:66-77Jesus in effect agreed that he was the son of God when he simply turned he high priest's question around by saying, You say ha I am” and Jesus identified him lf with God by using a familiar title for God found in the Old Testament. “I AM” found in Exodus 3:14. The high priest recognized Jesus’ claim and could accuse him of blasphemy. For any other human this claim woulin any was d have been blasphemies, but in this case it was true. Blasphemy, the ins of claiming to be God or attacking God’s authority and majesty even way was punishable by death. The Jewish leaders felt they had evidedence they wanted.“
Read Luke 23:1-5in Luke chapter 23, Jesus has already been on trial before the Sanidrin and then there are two other trials. So three all told. One trial before Pilot and another trial before Herod. Three trials and there is quite a parallel here in the Acts of the apostles. Paul was on trial before the Jews and then he was on trial before Festus, and then he was on trial before Agrippa and it’s very intentional to parallel here. Very intentional, and even though we call this chapter the Passion because it speaks of the passion. It's really about us. It is not so much about Jesus’ death. Jesus’ death is treated rather quickly here. It’s about our discipleship and our part in our reaction to the death of Christ. It talks about the disciple, in relation to Jesus’ death. The emphasis is on us, the disciples not on the Masters death. The Masters’ death just provides the backdrop for seeing a number of characters portrayed and we can see ourselves in every one of them. What is Luke trying to do? He is trying to tell the Lukian community in the 80; s a number of things. He is trying to tell them different things that are in them, good and bad and he is relating it all to a number of people who were at the crucifixion. Just like there were three trials. So there three denials and we kind of see ourselves as part of those who tried Jesus. As we deny him, we try him. That’s the intonation. And as we accept him we are on trial. So we are in there. We are either trying him or we are being tried with him. We are being tried with him like Paul in the parallel passages of the Acts of the Apostles or we are trying him by denying him like Peter did. So you see the three trials. Three trials in Luke, three trials in Act for Paul. So you see e are really getting in on it. Now we are like Pilot in some ways. Read Luke 23:1-5he wouldn’t say it as Pilot would understand it and Pilot reported to the chief priest and the crowds,” I do not find a case against this man.” Now That little phrase, “I do not find a case” is echoed throughout the whole thing. He just keep saying I don’t find a case. We’ve examined him. Herod didn’t find anything. There is nothing wrong. There is a great emphasis on Jesus’ being innocence.
Read Luke 23: 6-17In fact the centurion is the big climatic thing. Jesus dies and what is the big statement after his death? Verse 47” The centurion upon seeing what happened gave Glory to God by saying, ‘Surely this was an innocent man” There is a great emphasis on Jesus’ innocence That’s the big line here? Why? Well for two reasons we want is the other side Jesus is innocent is our guilt. He died not because of his sins but because of our sins and so we are guilty. We are Pilate guilty, we are Herod guilty. We are the bad thief guilty, we are the soldiers guilty, and we are the dice player guilty. We are guilty. We shouted crucify him, crucify him. As we denied him in the everydayness of our life at the fire with Peter, refusing to acknowledge him before the people we know every day. That is the teaching that is being brought out here. But there is another reason for the stress on innocents it is because Rome keeps saying he’s innocent, Centurion says he’s innocent. Pontius Pilot says he is innocent. Rome claims his innocents. Rome at this particular time is going to move into a great that terrible persecution in the very next decade in the 90s under the mission,
Read Luke 23:18-25We identify with Pontius Pilate, never really directly saying Jesus was no good.Just being wishy-washy and not standing up like should have. Remember what Jesus said In 21:28 “when these things began to happen stand erect and hold your heads high for deliverance is at hand.” There is a Pontius Pilate- A person who really doesn’t do anything wrong but is compromising and being wishy-washy. Because he hates who Jesus is when we know in your heart who he is. You know he’s innocent You know there is no reason for it. Yet you sell him out. Then of course there is the Herod, you say Why I certainly can’t be Herod. No way. I’m not like him. Herod was very pleased to see Jesus. He was a very religious man, from the report about him, he wanted for a long time to see Jesus work some miracle. He questioned Jesus at great length and Jesus made no answer. What was Luke say to the Lukian community of the 80’’s? There are some people here just for blessings, there are some people in here just to feel good, there are some people here hoping just to see some miracle, there are some curiosity seekers in this community who are truly committed to the lord. And you know what the Lord says to them nothing that he said nothing there. Then it is devastating reading this in the 80. In verse 12 Herod and Pilot we previously been set against him became friends from that day. Pilot would look at Herod and say those people make me sick. And Herod would say the same of Pilot. And Luke says if you are not serving the Lord, you’re all together, you’re all buddies. Whether you think the other persons are bad or not. You don’t want to buddies with these guys. He is saying that you are doing the same things. If you are really honest with yourself.
Read Luke 23:26-32Read Luke 23:26-32As I reflected on verse 26: It came to me that Luke is portrayingthe model of the disciple as they led him away, they laid hold of one Simon the Cyrene, who was coming in from the fields, the model disciple, you’re out doing the work in the vineyard, you come in and they put a crossbeam on Simon shoulders for him to carry behind him, the model disciple doing his work, carrying his daily cross. Now hopefully you're not Herod. We don’t want to be a Pontius Pilot. But you are also a Simon of Cyrene. Another model, a great crowd of people followed him including women who beat their breast and lamented over him. The model disciple, the people who are repenting and serious about repenting. And not crying because of Jesus, Jesus says “Don’t weep for me” Weeping for themselves. A model disciple is not only a cross bearer but someone who takes sin seriously and weeps for it. Luke alone mentions the tears of the Jewish woman while Jesus is being led through the streets to his crucifixion.
Read Luke 23:33-43
As Jesus suffered on the cross on Good Friday, a small part of the world;s reaction ot his death unfolded before Him. Two criminals, sentenece o death for their crimes, endured their own prolonesuferins along with Him. The first, embittered by his physical pain an unhappy life, hurled sarcastic remarks to Jesus: Beconing to come off the Cross and save them. It isn’t hard to undersand such an attitude. For all he know he had heard this talk of a man who could walk on water, raise the dead and he thinks, “Hey why not me?” To him Christ seems no different from the broken, powerless criminal who mocked him? Do we not too at times mock Jesus? Do other’s not mock us for our beliefs? It is the sign of the human inequitiy that we all have inside of us. Do we call out to Jesus or to we mock him in our anger? But on the other hand the other thief shows an alternative to despari; he clung to his faith, against all unsurmountable odds. Just like Jesus did. Just as I have in my dealings with the darkness of despair over my son’s life in prison. I too had to cling to my strong faith in Jesus Christ for with him I am nothing. Just like the theif who in the darkness hour of adversit asked Jesus to remember me when you come into my kingdom. And the beauty of it all is that Jesus in his pain, in his agony in all the suffering that he took upon himself for our sins and failures, looked to him and promised Him paradise. He can do the same for you and me. Just call on Him. Put yourself at the foot of the cross.
Luke 23:34This part of the Gospel has always been for me a profound statement: “Father forgive them or they know not what they do? Oh how I cling to those words and so desire to be free enough of my sins and shortcomings that I too could freely forgive those who offend me. That is the difference between Christ’s divinity and our inequities but we can have it all if we call on him to strengthen us and to find a way to forgive as He forgave. As human’s the hardest thing to do is to forgive.
Read Luke 23:44-49This significant event symbolizes Christ’s work o the cross. The temple had three parts, the courts for all the people; the Holy Place, where only priest could enter; and the Most Holy Place where the high priest alone could enter once a year to atone for the sins of the people. It was the Most Holy Place that the Ark of the Convenat, and God’s presence with it rested. The curtain or veil that was torn was the on ethacloseoff the Most Holy Place from view. At Christ’s death, the barrier between GO an humanity was split in two. Now all people can approach God directly through Christ.
Read Luke 23:50-59Joseph of Arimahea was a wealthy and honored member of the Jewish council. He was also a secret disciple of Jesus. The disciples that publicly followed Jesus had fled, but Joseph boldly took a stand that could have cost him dearly. He cared enough about Jesus to ask for the boy so he could give it a proper burial. The Galilean women followed Joseph to the tomb, so the knew exactly where to find His body when they returned after the Sabbath with their spices and perfumes. They were followers of Jesus and out of love for Jesus, the teacher, they prepared His body for burial. Often the graves of the 1st century were cavescarced out of stone. The decases was lar id inside and often, as was the cadrehere, a stone was used o block the opening of the grave. Sprices were used to sweeten the air and beid read of the stench of a body’s decay. All hurried to completed their apponted task at hand and be prepared for the Sabath yet they were unsure of what would happen next? Do you always rush to your appointed task in the same way? If you attend to your appointed task do so with courage and conviction for the Lord is with you all the way. Remember you as a follower of Christ were appointed with the same authority of Christ, the same power to evalangize and to bring others to the faith. If Jesus poured His life out for you, can you not do the same or him? They stayed at he cross when most of the disciples had led and they got ready to anoint their Lords’ boy. Because of tier devotion, their were first to know about heir resurrection. As believers we may fell we can’t do much for Jesus. Abut we are called to take advantage of the opportunities given us, knowing what we can do and not worrying about what we can’t do.
LUKE 24: 1:12
Luke 24:3We see a Peter running there in v 12 . Peter got up and ran to the tomb stooped down, could see nothing but the wrappings and it So he went away, full of amazement at what occurred. It didn’t a thing for him. He didn’t meet risen Christ at the empty tomb. Peter met the risen Christ in the in the fellowship of the believers in the Eucharist, that’s how Peter met the risen Christ that’s what you got here in your own community. So you don’t need to live long ago for deep faith. You just need to fully enter into the Christian Community, fully enter into the Eucharist, fully enter into Christian Service and you will meet the risen Christ. That’s the teaching here.
Why do you search for the Living One among the dead? He is not here; He has been raised up."—24:5-6
LUKE 24:1-12As I reflect on the idea of the empty tomb I am reminded that J.B Phillips the famous Bible translator taught us “that the most radical proof of the resurrectedChrist is not an empty tomb, but is a fulfilled radically different, free and courageous Christian life.” That's what you're trying to get across here, and it happens through the word of God. And in experiencing the word of God you might say I would have more faith in Jesus risen, if I was there with those women at the tomb. The teaching here is “you wouldn’t” Cuz Luken community of the 80s where saying the same thing. They were 50 years removed from Jesus’ resurrection. And they were saying” Boy If I lived back then I would have more faith in the risen Christ.”And the message is, No you wouldn’t The experience of the risen Christ is in the living Christian Community. The experience of the risen Christ is through the power of the word and through the experience of the Eucharist That’s what it all about. It's not an empty tomb.
Read Luke 24; 13-35And now we have two again to on the road to Arameus. Two on the road to Arameu two defecting disciples that
Luke 24:15The resurrection on Easter Sunday is the final seal on Christ’s message and His mission. One of Jesus’ noted followers, the apostle Paul wrote clearly that his own faith would have geen empty withouth the reality of the resurrection Jesus’ resurrection was more than a singular event, and is far more than the end of His story, for its meaning lives on. It now only represents the final resurection proclaimed in the apacalpytic writings of the O.T. it also represnet the beginning of God’s ultimate victor over evil in the world. Thies message adreses the plight of human who hose their own way insteadof God’s way, a choice that results both in spritualandphysical death. Jesus’ death was God’s way of dealing with the captivity of humnaithy to sin an death. Jeusus resurrection is evidence o the redempttion that his sacrifice inaurage for all of us. That promises is that his triumph over death can also be ours
Luke 24:26-34
What's going on here? What is happening is these two men-notice that they say men instead of Angels by light of other passages we might consider them angels. But there is two of them in Luke and there is only one in Mark, there is two and two is the magic discipleship number in Luke. He's the one who sends them out two by two. He had two people get the colt for the entry into JerusalemHe had two-Peter and John prepare for the last supper. There are two men in acts of the apostles-one at the ascension. Two is the magic number 2 by 2 means discipleship for Luke. And so when you're talking about not so much resurrection; but discipleship. As we are preoccupied with it in Luke and what is the message of the disciple to the disciple about the resurrection? The message is, why do search for the living on among the dead? The message is to experience the risen Christ. You don't do it at the tomb; you do it in the living Christian community. That’s the message. Now days we have the same temptation we somehow try to prove that there was an empty tomb and try togo through all the resurrection appearances. But the real proof of the resurrection is not in the tomb; it is among the living, It is in the Christian community seeing people lives radically transformed. That’s the greatest proof of the resurrection. J.B Phillips the famous Bible translator taught the very same thing “that the most radical proof of the resurrectedChrist is not an empty tomb, but is a fulfilled radically different, free and courageous Christian life.” That's what you're trying to get across here, and it happens through the word of God. And in experiencing the word of God you might say I would have more faith in Jesus risen, if I was there with those women at the tomb.
Luke 24:25Even though the disciples knew he biblical prophecies well , they failed to understand that Christ’s suffering was his path to Glory. They could not understand why God had not intervened to save Jesus on the cross. They were so caught up in the world they couldn’t see God’s divine plan for the suffering servant that Isaiah spoke of in the Old Testament and how Jesus was the passover lamb slain so that our sins could be washed away with his blood.
Luke 24:28
Lread Luke 24: 36-49The Gospel of Luke, like each of the other gospels focuses on an important appearance of Jesus to the twelve in which they are commissioned for their future ministry. In verse 37 They see Jesus and say he looks like a ghost to me. This shows that they have a lack of relationship; they do not know the risen Christ . He says touch me and make sure I am not a ghost. But that really didn’t do it. They were still encredulis. What really make it through to them. They ate together. They had Eucharist and the word.

Luke 24:46-47
Luke 24:48
Read Luke 24:50-53Between the resurrection and the ascension. Luke brings his story about the time of Jesus to a close with the report of the ascension. He will also begin the story of the time of the church with a recounting of the ascension. In the gospel, Luke recounts the ascension of Jesus on Easter Sunday night, closely associating in with the resurrection . In Acts he further historicizes the ascension by speaking g of a forty-day period. As the disciples stood and watched, Jesus had began rising in the air, and soon he disappeared in heaven. Seeing Jesus leave must have been frightening, but he disciples knew that Jesus would keep his promise to send the Holy Spirit to be with them. This same Jesus, who lived with the disciples; who died and was buried, and who rose from the dead, loves us and promises to be with us always. We can get to know him better by studying scripture, praying, receiving the sacrament of the most holy Eucharist and being in community with other Christians who are disciples of Christ. Luke’s Gospel ends with a description of Jesus’ ascent to heaven. This ascent is also described in more detail in Act 1:11, a book also written by Luke that appears to be a continuation of this gospel Jesus’ ascension changed the relationship better God and humanity. The work he came to do has been completed, allowing each of us to connected with God in a new way. Before Christ’s mission, we could only hope for a future reconciliation with God; now we can base our hope on the reality of Jesus'’ sacrifice. While the Spirit of God has existed since before time, the work of Jesus brings us a new relationship, in which God’s Spirit lives inside his reconciled people, teaching and leaving them in the ways of the kingdom. We now are Christ’s disciples, one in him given the authority by Christ himself to go about and make fishers of all men.
