President Obama signed a Bill extending the $8,000 1s t time homebuyer credit and expanding
that credit to $6,500 for buyers who have owned their principal residence for 5 years. Here is a

According to the Mortgage Bankers Association, there was a 12.8 percent increase in
applications to buy a mortgage or refinance a home in the week ending Sept. 18.
The average interest rate for 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages declined to 4.97 percent
from 5.08 percent the week before.
The average interest rate for 15-year, fixed-rate mortgages dipped to 4.41 percent
from 4.42 percent in the same period.
The average interest rate for one-year, adjustable-rate mortgages decreased to 6.52
percent from 6.61 percent.
