2. MEANING OF TEXTBOOK
Textbook is the standard book, used as a tool
of teaching, and learning organized for
instructional purpose related with particular
subject of curriculum organized for use of
students and teachers. Textbook serves as a
guide for a teacher and a student as well .
3. Textbook are authorised by the experts
and person having specialisation in the
subject, pondering level, age, psychology,
standard and status of prospective
readers. So books are considered to be
more perfect comprehensive and reliable
source of knowledge.
4. DEFINITION OF TEXTBOOK
International Encyclopedia for
Educational Technology, “Textbook
are the book that are designed to
present the basic principle or aspect
of a given subject for use as a basic of
instruction they can in fact be
considered as an entire course of
instruction they are highly
organised”.
5. According to the Kothari Education
Commission, “ A good textbook written by
a qualified and competent specialist in
the subject and produced with due
regards of printing, illustrations and
general getup, stimulates the pupils
interest and helps the teacher
considerably at his work”.

OF TEXTBOOK
The size and volume of the textbook
should be suitable and easy to handle.
The binding of the book should be strong
and desirable.
The cost of the textbook should be
reasonable and easily availability in the
market.
There should not be any typing error or
grammatical mistakes.
8. The printing should be bold, margin,
space between words and lines and easily
readable.
The cover page should be aesthetically
design.
The paper used in the textbook should be
of superior quality.
9. 2.ACADEMIC / INTERNAL ASPECTS
OF TEXTBOOK
The Content should have detail
explanation, simple language and
sufficient illustrations and pictures. The
difficult points of a textbook are
explained in terms of pictures, tables and
concrete examples and diagrams etc bring
about better instructional result.
Textbook should be prepared according to
prescribed syllabus and every aspect of
the syllabus should be adequately
covered.
10. It should have relevant content matter that
covers the syllabus.
The style and vocabulary used should be
suitable to the age group of students for
whom the book is written.
Preface ; The initial part of a textbook is
related to the introduction which presents
the bird’s age view of the whole textbook.
Commencement of the lesson ; Each lesson
begins from the possibility of an activity
which can become the basis of acquisition of
future knowledge. This can be previously
acquired fact, principle or recollection of a
prior experience.
11. Facts; The chief part of the lesson is
made up of some facts. It is made
effective by the use of pictures etc.
Examples and users are also included in
it.
End of lessons; Each lesson ends with
some questions generally. Besides,
suggestions for additional experiment and
technical vocabulary used in the lesson
can also be given. Sometimes the life
sketch of scientists or historical
background can be given.
12. Content Should be well organized with
appropriate terminologies and correlation
with other subjects.
Content should be asper the instrumental
objects.
The content should be adequate, correct,
upto date and related to life.
The content and other learning
experiences of a good textbook are
unbiased and objective.
13. The textbook should serve the purpose of
subject matters as well as the aims and
objectives of teaching.
End of book ; Textbook Should have
publication name, year of publication,
preface and ends with an index.
Sometimes a glossary is also given.
14. CONCLUSION
Textbook provides organised units of
work. It give a great contribution in the
teaching-learning process both to teachers
and to learners. Thus textbook gives you all
the plans and lessons you need to cover a
topic in some detail. It is a series provided
you with a balanced information.
