Jurassic World was in production from 2001-2015, with many directors and actors attached at different points. Filming took place in Hawaii and Louisiana from 2014-2015. The film was released in June 2015 in 3D and IMAX formats, grossing over $1.6 billion worldwide. It featured innovative digital marketing and tie-in products. Audiences responded positively to its special effects, action, and appeal to a wide demographic.
2. JURASSIC WORLD
Production: Jurassic World’s production had been
on going from June 2001, after the release of the
third Jurassic park film. Previous directors and
actors from the original franchise including that of
Sam Neill and Joe Johnston had turned down doing
another film. In 2002 William Monahan was
announced as screenwriter , with Spielberg and
Kathleen Kennedy as producers of the original
announced summer 2005 release. The original
story would ‘involve the characters devising a
solution to restrict the spread of dinosaurs and
prevent a ecological disaster.’
3. Majority of those who worked on the pervious films,
signed up for the new film , with Richard
Attenborough saying he would reprise his role as
John Hammond and palaeontologist Jack Horner
also returning to the franchise. Actors including that
of Keira Knightly, Emmy Rossum and David
Boreanaz were originally considered but later
written out of the script or were not wanted by the
films producers. In 2005 the idea which would be
loosely used in the final film of using inspiration
from the book ‘The Lost World’ had been
considered where motorcycles could outrun raptors.
From the beginning the film had been with
Universal Studios.
4. Universal originally wanted the film to be done and
released by 2013 however in October 2011 the
script was been re-written with completely new
ideas being discussed. In 2012, Spielberg
announced he would not be directing.
The film being shot in 3D was announced in 2013
and its expected release to be in the June of the
following year. Kathleen Kennedy stepped down
from producing whose role was given to Frank
Marshall. The final director for the film Colin
Trevorrow was suggested in March 2013, with him
securing the job on March 14th.
The final idea of a fully functioning dinosaur theme
park was addressed later that year.
The draft of the film was given to the studio on May
6th 2013.
5. On September 10th 2013, Universal confirmed the name
of the film as Jurassic World and that it would be
released on June 12th 2015.
In January 2014 it was released that Chris Pratt and
Bryce Dallas Howard would be starring as the main
roles.
Cinematographer John Schwartzman used Panavision
camera shooting on Kodak 35mm and 65mm film. Film
Stock was also used in an ‘effort to match the visual
aesthetic’ of the three previous films as well as gaining a
greater dynamic range of light for the jungle scenes.
Also the film was chosen to be presented in 2.00:1
aspect ratio so that it could be shown in IMAX screens.
February 7th Legendry Pictures agreed to co-finance the
film providing 20% of the budget.
By June 27th 2014, the full cast had been formatted.
6. Filming: Majority of the filming was conducted in
Hawaii, with both animatronics and CGI dinosaurs
being used throughout the film. Visual effects were
also used with performance capture also being
involved by including human actors to act as the
dinosaurs on set.
Filming was done in Honolulu zoo in Hawaii, Hawaii
Convention centre, Six Flag theme park in New
Orleans as well as Louis Armstrong International
Airport, Slidell, Louisiana and inside Big Easy
Studios. Filming wrapped on August 5th 2014.
Extensive use of the telecrane was used to add a
thriller element, as if the tracking shots would act as
the dinosaur in chase scenes with the spydercam
also being used.
7. DISTRIBUTION AND EXHIBITION
The film was release on June 12th 2015, as according to
its original date in North America, however the first
public premiere was held around 2 weeks before on
may 29th 2015.
The movie itself had been shot in 3D like other popular
and box office successful movies over the past several
years, with it also including features for it to be shown
across the world in 809 IMAX theatres.
The film was re-launched as IMAX 3D on August 28th
2015 by universal with the company spending a total of
$34.9 million on TV advertisements. The film was later
released in October of the same year on DVD, and both
Blu-Ray, and 3D Blu-Ray.
8. Furthermore games such as that of Lego Jurassic
World (which was also released as a toy building
game) as well as an Apple application ‘Jurassic
World: The Game were released in 2015. A small
theme park in Italy in collaboration with Universal
opened a new area called Dinoland which featured
54 reproductions of dinosaurs and six attractions. It
took in a worldwide gross of $1.669 billion against a
budget of $150 million.
It was nominated for 5 Teen Choice awards, one
Hollywood Visual Effects award, as well as three
Peoples Choice awards, including favourite movie
and actor.
9. CONVERGENCE AND SYNERGY
In social media Jurassic World had a total of 1,6,0.406
mentions with majority of which coming from Europe
and North American Countries and 73% being positive.
Online interactive websites were created in order to
give of a real movie theme park experience to the
viewers of the film. Therefore, the website is for the
theme park itself and not the film, eliminated the 3rd wall
between viewers and the film.

All digital and physical formats were used in its
distribution with it generating $82.6 million in its first
week and $3 million copies of blue-ray and DVD being
sold also in its first week.
10. AUDIENCE AND INSTITUTION
The film had a rating of 12 worldwide due to how it had
some aspects of violence, weaponry and taboo
language. However it was conducted that a child of this
age could deal with the harshest scenes of violence
overall.
The film and its team included various different features
which would have appealed and increased the
popularity from the audience of it. These included that of
special effects and fast pace action sequences as well
as the uniqueness of the film overall. The film used a
range of effects including animatronics, CGI and
performance capture in order to create realistic looking
dinosaurs and other features including explosions. All of
which would make the film much more exciting and
appeal to a wide audience in the modern age of cinema.
