4. Looking into the examples of Rotoscoping, I have come across some classic films such as the black cauldron as
well as a child's classic show mickey mouse. I will be using the information that I have found to look further
into the method I'm using. The main examples I'll be looking at are Koko the clown and Popeye. This being
because these two examples have songs, lots of movement and quite the bit of accuracy in the drawings. I will
be looking at these products Rotoscopy, how it came as an idea to create, my opinion on its style and overall
analysis.
5. Koko the clown is a black and white animation create by Max
fleischer. The method he used was to use real life method of
copying the movements and tracing it. Koko came together after
2,500 traces and a year's work but did not receive his name til
1924. From this fleischer had been hired by John R. bray studios to
which they starded working on "out to the inkwell" as an entry to
the bray pictograph screen magazine which was released through
paramount in the 1919/20. After I have perosnally watched
this I'm aware of the simplicity it holds (out to the inkwell) it's quiet
entertaining to say the least as well there was no narritaion s it was
like watching a modern animation called gacha but this version is
black and white.
Fleischer had developed this 'cartoon' to a series which
entitles "Max Fleischer as the creative cartoonist and 'master' of
'the clown'" as quoted. This being said, the series episodes would
invole the clown slipping from the creator's eyes and causing
mischievious prank on his creator. This series would have become
the funniest comedy for adults and children for years to say the
least our generation in modern times would have found this funny,
but they would have to adapt it by using sound and narritation.
6. In 1921 max and dave fleischer formed their own studio called, 'Out of
the inkwell, Inc' and their 'films' were distributed through a states right
method which went through the Warner Brothers, Pinkler Pictures, Standard and
The Red Seal Pictures Corporation. As I've mentioned the clown wasn’t named till
1924 but the character wasn’t named straight away until Dick Huemer came to
be their animation superviser in which the clown for a more efficient type
of animation this helped move the fleischers from relying on their normal
rotoscope for fluid animation. The canine companion or a dog was also
created by Huemer however he not only did this this but more imporantly set the
new drawing styke and gave the series show a distinctive look which can be
seen at the beginning as one of his illustrations.
Well following this in the 3 years between 1924 and 1927 "KoKo the
clown" name was hyphenated to "Ko-Ko"due to legal issues of bankruptcy from
the fleischers partnership company, The Red Seal Pictures Corporation. When
the fleischers where presented with a new paramount contract from Alfred Wiess
in the mid of 1927, "Out of the Inkwell" was retitled to "The inkwell imps". In
july 1929 the series ended with "Chemical Koko" due to alfred weiss being
allegdly mismanaging, the inkwell studios had earlier filed bankruptcy in january
1929 which put the show to retirement for two years.
After a two-year retirement for koko, the legal entanglements were resolved
and returned to creen in 1931 beginning with "The Herring Murder Case" after
which he became a regular in the new fleishcer "Talkartoons series" with his co-
stars Betty-Boop and Bimbo hower this only lasted 3 years as in 1934 koko the
clowns last performance was in the "Betty-Boop" cartoon of "Ha! Ha! Ha!"
Which became a remake of an "out of the inkwell: the cure" made back in 1924.

10. Popeye the sailor man, an american fictional cartoon character which was created
by Elzie Crister Segar. On January 17, 1929, the character made its first appearance
in the daily King Features comic strip of thimble theatre. In later years popeye
became the strips title and the character further appeared in theatrical and
telivision animation/cartoons.
In their tenth year the Segar's thimble threatre strip had the popeye debut to
which this one-eyed sailor soon became the main part of the strip and became one
of the Thimble theatre's king features in the 1930s. However, after had died in
1938 his assistant- Bud Sagendorf continued with the Thimble theatre including
several other writers and artists. On its first-run intallments in its sunday edition
the strip would continue and would be written and drawn by hy Eisman which
ehere reprints of Sagendorf's old stories.
In revelance to the "Koko the Clown' research, Max Fleischer adapted the Thimble
theatre characters of "Popeye the Sailorman" into a series for Paramount Pictures
in 1933. Through the 1930s this cartoon series proved to be among the most
popular as well as Fleischer as well as Paramounts famous studio, continued this
through 1957. These cartoon shorts are now currently owned by Turner
entertainments but are also distrubuted among the sister company of Warner
Bros, popeye has appeared in comic books, telivision cartoons, video games,
advertisments and peripheral products from spinach which is what powers popeye
to candy cigarettes as well as there being a 1980 live action film which was
directed by Robert Altman and the actor of popeye was Mr. Robin Williams. The TV
guide ranked Popeye number 20 in their " 50 greatest cartoon characters of all
times" list as well as it being said by Charles M. Schulz that "I think Popeye was a
perfect comic strip, consistent in drawing and humour". I have watched this show
before and it is the best comdey act and storyline that has been created in my own
opinion
11. The characterization and story depended on the medium such as the original
"Luck" came from when popeye rubbed the head of the whiffle hen however
by 1932 Popeye's "strength" came from him eating spinach. In this story there
is absolutely no sence in continuity, though there are certain plots and
presentation elements that remain somewhat constant this does include the
purposeful conradictions in Popeyes capabilities. As the main character you
would expect good manners hower Popeye berefts manners and appears
uneducated but after consuming spinach and sometimes beforehand, he
comes up with solutions that a police or scientific communities would deem
insurmountable as he shows a "sherlock holmes" style such as investigative
prowess, scientific finds and the successful & diplomatic arguments.
The pipe that popeye always has especial in the animated cartoons has
highly proved to be versatile, as among most things it has become a
cutting torch, jet engine, propeller, periscope, musical instrument and the
trademark whistle toot. Other than the highly versatile pipe Popeye
consumes spinach through his pipe or by sometimes eating the contents
out the can, though from the 1970s popeye is shown as sledom and
depicted by him smoking tabacco from his pipe. Some of the recurring plot
elements are the love triangle of Popey, olive oyl and Bluto. His endless
machinations to try and claim Olive at popeyes expenses but Popeye has a
near-saintly perseverance to please Olive who often replaces Popeye for
Bluto
14. In this reserach I found that popeye and koko the clown have similarities such as both
being aired in the betty boop series and being created by Max Fleischer as well as being
made into a cartoon by paramount pictures who worked Max while he created his
stories. These shows became very opular through til the 1950s when popeyes last show
was aired and in the 1930s when koko the clowns last performance was shown however
they continued to show the stories without a new episode for some years even when I
was a young child, I had seen popeye until I was about 10 (2013 )that’s when I noticed
that the show wasn’t showing up anymore on the tv.

23. During my research I found that 80% of the people who took part in
my questionaire are under 21. 55% of those people are female 20% are male
and 5% are non-binary. For question 7 I asked would they want a steriotypical
hero villian story 55% clicked maybe though that is the most clicked 40% said
no and maybe is 50/50 for yes or no so that means no is the highest due to
technicallity meaning no has technically 95% while yes is 60% this doesn’t
really make sense but if you look at the diagram in the top corner it shows
that 55% is shared between the yes and no.
40% 55% 5%
Now because my animation involves portals, I asked
my audience if they would still watch it and to
my surprise a lot of people would watch an animatio
that involved portals or curses this probably because
it addsnto a story and can help you leave the story on
a cliff hanger if needed.
