Do we replicate these stereotypes of what we consider “knowledgeable” or “educated” people? Do you consider a nuclear scientist as knowledgeable but a delivery man not? Do you do this with your students

  • 15. Are they applying the new knowledge? Are you inspiring them to explore the content or skill further outside the classroom walls? Do they have the skills to know how? Are we teaching them to “think”?
  • 16. What is the purpose of education? Preparation for standardized testing Or becoming a democratic, productive citizen?
  • 17. How do we best learn and process information????? Learning Styles……
  • 18. How do we build a positive school culture? Do the students want to go there? Do they feel safe? Supported? Do they passionate about what they are learning? Who are the stakeholders?
  • 19. What is your vision of a school’s purpose? Climate? Work environment? Are you creating a community of learners or fostering competition?

  • 21. Who is designing the curriculum? Teachers? Parents? Students? or States Federal government District officials?
  • 22. How much influence should all stakeholders have in designing the curriculum? Should it be child-centered versus society-centered? Futurist versus presentist or adaptive? values-centered education versus skills-training? or humanist/existential versus behaviorist? What is the hidden curriculum? Core curriculum?
  • 23. Who sets the learning goals? The teachers or the students? Are you teaching to the students interests?
  • 24. Who makes the rules on your classroom? You or the students If they break rules what are the consequences? Detention? Are detentions and suspensions effective? Will it change the behavior? Do the consequences fit the crime or are there better ways to inspire the desired behaviors? Like community service... Do we involve the student in how to best change the behavior?

  • 30. What represents you as a teacher? An expert disseminator of knowledge? A learner? A facilitator? or a relations developer?
