  1. Happy Fourth of July! It’s hard to believe that we are more than half way through 2016! We have some fun educational visits this month from the Metro Parks. During this month we will be focusing on the children learning through different hands-on activities around campus. Have a great start to summer, Jeni Hoover July 2016 Newsletter Upcoming Dates: July 4 – Closed for 4th of July July4 – New Cycle – Tuition Due July 6 – Swimming (2:30-3:30pm) July 7 – Birds’ Visit to Library July 14th – Intergen activity in Langston at 3:15pm July 15 – Giraffes’ Visit to Library July18 – New Cycle – Tuition Due July 20 – Swimming (2:30-3:30pm) July 25 – Metro Parks visit @ 9:30am August 1 – New Cycle – Tuition Due August 1 – Metro Parks visit @ 9:30am Reminder: Don’t forget to send your child with a hooded towel for swimming dates. This makes it much easier to walk back and forth to the pool and reduces falls. 2016 KELC Closed Days: • Teacher In-services – August 5; November 4 • Holidays – July 4; September 5; November 24 & 25; December 23 & 26 You will need to make alternate arrangements for your children on these days as KELC will be closed. PLEASE REMEMBER TO WATCH YOUR SPEED WHILE DRIVING ON KENDAL’S CAMPUS! Healthy Summer Tid-bit: If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would you choose? Seriously, think about it. Chances are, you’d select someone famous, like a celebrity or an important historical figure who changed the world. A bunch of parents were asked that question, and responses included the likes of Justin Bieber, Marilyn Monroe, and Nelson Mandela. Then they were shown videos of their children answering the very same question. Their responses surprised everyone. (Click the underlined words to see link.) Kendal Intergenerational News: This month we are going to have an Intergen activity in Langston on Thursday, July 14th at 3:15pm. We will be reading Duck for President and having a yummy treat. We hope you can join us as it will be a lot of fun.
  2. From the KELC Teachers: From the Classroom: Our summer has gotten off to a great start! Our garden is planted and growing. The children are taking great pride and responsibility as they keep it watered and weeded. Hopefully with a little love it will be a great harvest. We have been enjoying extra time with our grandfriends as we participated in Fun Fitness Week activities and attended the annual community picnic. Our study on roads was a big hit as we learned about their characteristics: how they are made and how we can make them. We also learned about traffic signs and how to be safe. Parker’s dad Dean was nice enough to arrange for two tow trucks to be brought in so the children could see how they work. We also had a visit from the Oberlin Police Department. The children had lots of fun as they took turns turning on the lights and siren on the police cruiser. To finish off our study, ODOT made a visit and allowed the children to paint their hand prints on a snow plow. Make sure you look for it this winter! We have lots of fun summer activities planned, many of which will find us out of the classroom. So please remember to be here on time and to apply sunscreen. Have a great summer!
