  4. 4. Challenges <ul><li>We had some trouble with finding how the area of a rectangle could also find the area of a circle </li></ul>

Solution <ul><li>The formula to find the area of a rectangle is: A= L x W </li></ul><ul><li>The length of the rectangle was equal to half of the circumference of the circle that was cut up. </li></ul><ul><li>So the formula could also be ‘A= C/2 x r’ </li></ul><ul><li>Circumference could also equal ‘πd’ (π times diameter) </li></ul>

Solution (continued) <ul><li>The diameter in ‘πd’, could also equal 2r (2 times radius = diameter) </li></ul><ul><li>So it could also equal ‘A= π2r/2 x r’ </li></ul><ul><li>Then, we cancel the ‘2’ multiplying ‘r’, with the divided by ‘2’ in the equation. </li></ul><ul><li>So we end up with ‘A= πr x r’, or it could also equal ‘A= π x r2’ </li></ul>
