Implementation Of
Technology Lesson
Janet Leishman
Teaching Environment
This is the second grade classroom that I have been teaching
in for the last few days. In this classroom there are 22
students. In this room there is plenty of room to move around
to help the students. In the classroom there is also plenty of
visuals for the students to use as resources while doing their
work.
Teaching Environment
The technology available in
this classroom is limited. The
classroom is located in the
older part of the school so not
only does the internet not
always work but the only
pieces of technology available
for the teacher’s disposal is a
T.V. with a DVD player, an
overhead and sometimes even
a projector. With this lesson I
brought in my own laptop to
use.
Implemented Lesson
With this lesson I was teaching my guided reading group. In this
lesson my objective was to teach my students how to read with
correct expression and punctuation cues. I did this by allowing
students to record themselves reading a sentence on
VoiceThread. They then listened to the play back. The students
would then decide whether or not they read their sentence with
lots of expression and read it using correct punctuation cues.
Implemented Lesson
Opening page of VoiceThread.
Implemented Lesson
Second page of VoiceThread. This was the book the students
were reading from.
Implemented Lesson
Here are some pictures that the students drew about the book. They put the sentences
they were going to read with the picture on a large poster. This was so they could easily
read it while recording their sentence as their picture showed up on voice thread.
Implemented Lesson
Implemented Lesson
Implemented Lesson
I chose to use VoiceThread
because most of the students in
my guided reading group are oral
learners. I decided to do
something where they could hear
how they sounded when they
read. This helped to show them
that sometimes they forgot to
read with expression.
Lesson Reflection
In my lesson I showed the students these two pictures to remind
students what the exclamation and question marks look like. I modeled
for them how they should read a sentence if an exclamation point was
at the end or a question mark. They noticed that there was a
difference in my expression with the two different marks.
Lesson Reflection
Since these students have not interacted much with technology, I felt that I
used an appropriate amount of technology. If I would have used anymore
the students would have become overwhelmed with all the different types
of technology.
I felt like this lesson really helped the students to see how using expression
while reading is so necessary. They heard that it sounded so much better
when expression was used while reading their sentences. However, I felt
with this lesson that I could have done more modeling for the students. I
only read two sentences showing the students how to read with expression
but I should have done more to help those students who were struggling
with it. I would have also done this lesson with a smaller group. 6 students
was far too many to try and do but 4-5 students would have been just right.
Used this clip art
to show quotation
marks.
Lesson Reflection
If I had would have had more time. I would have allowed my students to
make up their very own VoiceThreads. So the students would have
recorded their own story based on ‘Aunt Eater Loves a Mystery’. This
would have allowed the students more time listening and fixing their
reading skills of reading with expression.

Technology Integration with
Young Children
From this article I learned a variety of
benefits of using technology. Technology can
increase a students vocabulary and
conversation skills through the use of
photography. Technology can support the
development of the English language for ESL
students because they can visually see what is
being taught. Technology allows students to
respond to things in their own individual way.
By organizing information from technology
students can learn to ask questions and
research them using technological resources.
It helps to engage a students curiosity.
Provides students with hands-on learning.
These are a few of the benefits that I learned
from the article about the use of technology
in lessons and in the classroom. This article
taught me that technology is worth using in
the classroom because of all the benefits that
come from using it.
