1. What kind of media
institution might
distribute your media
product and why?
2. What is the job of a film distributor?
A film distributor is responsible for the marketing of a film and the distribution
company is usually different from the production company as the production
company provides the physical basis for works in the film. The distributor will
set a release date of the film and the will chose a method by which the film will
be exhibited or made available for viewing, for example, they may chose to
directly show the public via cinema or home viewing and DVDs.
3. Difference between multinational
distributor and independent distributor
A multinational distributor usually have a bigger budget and are able to
distribute and market their product more extensively as they will have more
money to is and this enable their product to be known nationally and promoted
well and in some cases promoted worldwide as well. Independent distributors
have a very limited budget and market their product locally as they do not have
the right amount of money to promote nationally or worldwide.
4. Left films
Left films is a small independent production company and they have produced
the films, ‘Blood car’ and ‘Dead mans luck’. Many of the films within this
company are horror genre and thriller and they work on UK film distributions
with new independent films and in cinema and on DVD.
5. Left films
I believe left films would be a goo distributor company that would be suitable
for our film as they look for budget which means we will not be sending a lot
of money and they also specialise in horror and thriller which is the genre of
my film. This would allow them to promote and distribute our film very well
as hey already have a lo f experience with slasher films.
6. Hammer films
Hammer films is a British film production company based in London an is known
for their series of ‘Gothic’ films. Hammer films have been a production company
since 1934 and this is since they were founded. This company mainly produces
thriller
and horror films such as, ‘The woman in black’ and ‘let me in’.
7. Hammer films
I also think Hammer films could also be a possibility to be suitable for
distributing our film as they have produced many successful thrillers and
horrors and as my film is a slasher film, they will be able to distribute our film
and also attract more audience. Furthermore, not all of their films are high
budget which means we may be able to distribute our film within our price
range.
8. Film4 productions
Film 4 productions is a British film production company owned by channel four
television cooperation. The company has been responsible for backing a vast
amount of films in the UK The productions first production was in 1982 with
the film ‘Walter’. This company also have quite a few thriller and horror
productions such as, ‘The imposter’, ‘Trance’ and ‘Hush’.
9. Film four productions
Film 4 productions could possibly be a really good company to distribute our film
as they have produced a dew successful thriller in past and also they do not have
any thriller horror already that have a storyline similar to ours. This is a very
good advantage for us as it would mean that it would appeal to the audience as
it would be something new ad they also work n a low budget which is similar to
ours.
10. Conclusion
I believe that Hammer films or Film 4 productions would be one of the best
companies to distribute our film as they both have successful thriller and horror
films and also have experience in that genre. As it film is a slasher film, they
would be able to distribute a film to the right audience as will as gain more
member by of the audience which will widen out target market. As our film
storyline is different and has got a similar storyline to the films awkward
distributed by both companies, there is a high chance that the audience would
be intrigued in the film and interested.
