3. Idea 1: Blind film “Do we listen ad how well?”
A project I have wanted to make for years
A sound scape presented as a short film. The moving
images would be similar to Ad Reinhardt paintings where
his black square paintings seem like all one color when in ✤ The audience would be people who could be interested
fact they are not. The objective of the work is to see if in alternative film, sound art, people in the theater,
people will stay and listen to the work completely and curious people.
create their own imagery using their imagination based
on what they hear. At the end a short clip would pay ✤ Intended change/ reaction/interaction i hope for is the
during the credits of what I had envisioned the sounds to use of imagination based on sonic interoperation and
be. the willingness to stay and pay attention to the work.
✤ The final deliverable would be a recap of the experience
or surveys of those that had seen the film, perhaps I
could team up with a movie night and see what was
thought by those who “saw” the movie. I would like to
have it packaged like a film that could be submitted to
film festivals so perhaps the packaging and surveys.

5. Idea 1: Design Process
Conceptual development:
Presented as a short film ideally played like a short film preferably in a theater but a gallery would be an
appropriate alternative.
Why speak of film and not just sound? My interest in bringing up sound is that as a sound artist i
constantly wonder about listening and its seems often that imagery is important to hold peoples
attention to listen.
And if just sound, what is innovative about the idea?
Research (academic and observation)

! -Frequency response and reaction
! -Music and memory relations
! -Attention span of people
! -Colors and shade research
! -Body language research and observations

7. Idea 2: Collapsable chess table
Inspired by observations around NYC
and the several chess player who had
DYI chess playing set ups.
The intended audience would be those
who play chess on the go or would want
to carry less and still be able to play
chess.
The intended change/reaction/
interaction would be to help to people
carry less.
The final deliverable for the semester
would be a working prototype and a user
test.

pop-up street furniture in public space for a variety of uses such as chess players, merchants and other
Conceptual development:
! -what would the varieties look like for different interests.
! -what could it mean for people
Research (academic and observation):

! -materials
! -observe people in public spaces who use furniture such as markets, chess players, physics

12. Idea 3: Elevator Announcements
The idea is that there would be a small
strong speaker attached to a motion sensor
that would sense when the elevator door
was open or closed and play short tracks
that would be similar to the subway
announcements urging people to “stand
clear of the moving doors”
The audience would be people using
elevators

14. Idea 4: Self cleaning utensils
The idea is that the utensils would be self
cleaning. Often when I plan ahead to bring
lunch with me to work I sometimes forget
utensils. occasionally I have gotten food and
the utensils have been forgotten. If there was a
light weight self cleaning solution to this
problem it could be a good starting point to
help with sustainable cost effective way to cut
down on plastics.
The audience would be people who bring food The final deliverable would be a

working and able to be user tested.
The intended change/reaction/interactions is
to bring a new type of utensils around that will
make some peoples lives a bit easer and help
reduce use of plastic utensils.
