• Nami Island
13 students of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) went ‘gap packing’ during the semester break in January 2012. Campus trip to K’ ARTS University, Yonsei University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Soongsil University was an eye opening experience for us in learning the undergraduate student system in South Korea. We also surely would really miss hospitality provided by StayKorea . Last but not least, many thanks to Seoul Red Cat and Julia Tour who ensured our trip went smoothly.

We started our day with
bread, biscuits, orange juice and
hot milo for breakfast. It was
necessary for us to ate breakfast
before went out. It was it was hard
hard for us to find halal food plus
this winter season always made us
feel hungry. We packed biscuits,
candies, mineral water and some
snacks to be eaten during our
journey out of Seoul.

Today, our destination was to one of the famous islands
in Korea. Nami Nara also Nami island is an offshore island in Korea. It is a tiny half-moon shaped island
located in Chuncheon, South Korea, formed as it was inundated by the rising water of the North Han
River as the result of the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam in 1944.

2. Its name originated from General Nami who died at the age of 28 after being falsely accused of treason
during the reign of King Sejo, the seventh king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea. Although his grave wasn't
discovered, there were a pile of stones where his body was supposed to be buried. It was believed that
if someone took even one stone from there, it would bring misfortune to their house. A tour company
arranged the grave with soil and then developed Nami Island into an amusement park.
From the guesthouse, we took train from Hongik University station to Wangshimni station. It took about 30
minutes and later we changed to Mangu then to Gapyeong. After arrived at Gapyeon station, we took texi to
the port of Nami Island.
3. The beauty of this island was finally unearthed when a popular Korea drama ‘Winter Sonata’ had its filming
there, where such scenic and extremely romantic settings had resulted the main actors to fall in love in the
show. Since it is an island, we took a 10 minutes ride by ferry from the main land to the island.
5. > A famous lane is the Metasequoia Lane where visitors can reenact the walk made by Bae Yong Jun and Choi Ji
Woo, the Winter Sonata actors. The island also has various exhibition halls such as the UNICEF hall and the
Winter Sonata Photo Gallery.
