Undergraduate Project Defense

In this project, we explored the possibility of using open source software for building a visualization tool. At the end of this project, it is certain that three dimensional visualization tools will serve as an efficient way of improving educational learning process.

  2. 2. INTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTION • The human heart is an organ that provides a continuous blood circulation through the cardiac cycle and is one of the most vital organs in the human body. • The heart is divided into four main chambers: the two upper chambers are called the left and right atria (singular atrium) and two lower chambers are called the right and left ventricles. • Blood flows through the heart in one direction, from the atria to the ventricles, and out of the great arteries, or the aorta. • In order to view the operations of the human heart as regards the pumping of the human blood without cutting open a human being, the use of computer visualization technique is required.
  3. 3. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMSTATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM • Students generally experience challenges with grasping the required knowledge about various organs of the body due to in-availability of non-static three dimensional representation of human organs. The need to integrate three dimensional visualisation tools as a regular part of educational programmes arises.
  4. 4. AIM OF THE PROJECTAIM OF THE PROJECT • To develop three dimensional visualizations for educational use and integrate the three dimensional visualizations in various learning situations in regular health care curricula.
  5. 5. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECTOBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT I. Design a three dimensional visualization system. II. Implement a prototype of the three dimensional visualization system. III. Evaluate the prototype system.
  6. 6. SCOPE AND CONTEXT OF THE PROJECTSCOPE AND CONTEXT OF THE PROJECT • This work will focus on visualizing the human cardiovascular system (heart) as regards the flow of blood in/out of the heart and the blood vessels involved in the circulation of blood in the human body.

  12. 12. CONCLUSIONCONCLUSION • In this project, we explored the possibility of using open source software for building a visualization tool. At the end of this project, it is certain that three dimensional visualization tools will serve as an efficient way of improving educational learning process.
  13. 13. CONTRIBUTIONS TO KNOWLEDGECONTRIBUTIONS TO KNOWLEDGE • Three dimensional models provides options to view the experiment from any angle thereby helping the user's comprehension. • This project has proven the usefulness of open source technology for the development of visualisation tools. • Also, a feasible application of computer graphics is seen within the field of medical visualization.
