Question 4 media
1. In order to be able to successfully complete the music video task, going
through the processes of construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages we had to use many different types of technologies to
be able to do this.
2. •Final Cut Express – Using this programme found on the ‘iMac’ computers, at
first was very challenging as I wasn’t at all familiar with it however watching
tutorials helped me out. This programme, allowed us to upload our footage of
the video onto it, and see on a big screen what we had either successfully or
unsuccessfully shot. It allowed us to take certain parts out that we didn’t like
making clean cuts, or which didn’t fit and allowed us to add in the piece of
music in which we had decided to use for the music. There are several tools in
which can be used to make different effects which were useful when editing,
such as tools which added in fade ins and dissolves or made the footage turn
black and white to make it more adjustable to the music etc. In addition to
this, manipulation of images was another use which was offered, this allowed
us to experiment with different images making split screens and so forth.
3. Photoshop – I used PhotoShop for the creation of my digipak
and magazine advert. This programme allowed me to upload
pictures and edit them however I wanted to, adding text and
creating affects by using certain tools; these tools included,
cropping, blurring, erasing, magnetic lasso tool and so forth.
As you can see from the two images below, text has been added to
the photograph on the right.

4. Internet- Using the internet was a major aspect
that we needed otherwise many of the
construction for the music video wouldn't have
been able to proceed. The internet gave me
access to many different websites and pages in
which all gave us different outcomes. One of the
most important ones it allowed me to use was;
Blogger allowed me to upload and record everything
that was taking place whilst I was going through the
different stages of the task. This is basically an online
diary in which anyone can look at which let’s you as well
as others see the progression of your work completed.
5. Other technologies included;
HD Camera- This let me shoot the footage for the story line of my video as well
as the lip sinking
Tripod- This is a three legged stand in which attaches to the camera and holds it
at certain heights and angles in order to capture the footage. This was mainly
used by myself to get straight shots of myself getting in and out of the car.
Still camera- Let me capture pictures of myself filming, take pictures of my
possible locations and brainstorms of ideas that I had.
6. For the research stage of the task, I used several technologies in which involved
unsingned.com and YouTube.
This is an online website which offers you a variety of
thousands and thousands of songs from different genres all
in which have not been signed by a record label; this is
where I found my band and a useful chunk of information
was included with it.
YouTube played a major part in my process, it
allowed me to view other music video’s giving me
some inspiration and idea’s of what I could involve in
mine. Not only this, but it allowed me to upload my
storyboard onto it in order for me to transfer it and
view it on my blog.
7. In addition to this, before I could even start shooting my video, I had to get
permission from the band in order to use their song and to be able to do this I
had to email them through hotmail.co.uk . I eventually got my reply and then
was able to go off straight away and gather some idea’s together for what I
wanted to show.
MTV is a music channel in which provides you
with music and the video to the song. I chose to
look on this channel in order to research into
celebrities video’s, looking at aspects they had
included and what they hadn’t.
8. Mobile phone – I used a mobile phone when in the process of
planning my video, when texting Charlie who was playing the role
of the boyfriend in the video in order to meet and gather ideas of
what things we would include.
Brainstorms - I used several different brainstorms throughout the
planning in order to get down all the things that would come to
mind when I would listen to the song. These brainstorms were very
effective and most ideas wrote down were actually used.
Facebook - Facebook was another online programme that I used to
send surveys to friends and family to. It was a very easy way to get
people’s thoughts and ideas of what they thought should be
included in music videos and what types they like etc.
9. SurveyMonkey - This let me create an online
survey in which was sent to the public in order to
gather information on what they thought of my
music video. This survey could be set out
however you wanted it to look like, giving people
tick boxes to tick or even boxes which enabled
them to give more information into what they
thought.
Wordle - Wordle was also an online programme
in which basically let you add loads of text in,
which could have been the answers from a
question and the more that a word was written
the bigger the word would appear in the box. I
thought that this was very clever and was a really
easy way of being able to show which was the
most common answer to a particular question.
