Note
n a person's life, becoming a parent is considered one
Iof the most exciting journeys of their lives. The new
adventure embarks with higher expectations and hopes,
of how parenting will be. How will the person be able to
raise a child? The parenting journey is surprising as there
are joys accompanying frustration and anxiety.
Every new journey one takes, be it vacation, job, or baby
the thoughts are always about how the journey ahead will
be. New steps in life bring in new hopes and tasks to fulfill.
There is a lot of visual representation of the journey ahead.
And the same applies to parenting, once you're aware of the
pregnancy there's no bound to happiness but again there are
imaginations of the future and when you start living the life,
you reconcile everything you thought about.
Tech-Parenting:
Spreading Joys for
Lifetime
5. But what if, when you're all prepared for parenting and
understand that it is getting difficult for you to get pregnant?
Not to worry, Technology has all the answers. Thanks to
fertility treatments. They have a solution to your struggle.
Based on an individual's situation and the cause of
infertility, the best option is provided. Technology has
grown vast to help an individual with all the solutions.
Fertility treatments frequently include hormone and
ovulation-regulating medications, which are sometimes
combined with minor surgical procedures.
Something that has been around for decades and is getting
common at the top list of fertility treatments is In vitro
fertilization (IVF). To know about it in basic, it combines
egg and sperm outside of the body in a culture. But there is
a lot more to it that occurs before and after.
Insights Care's latest edition 10 Most Trusted IVF &
Fertility Centers for 2022, will not only help you to
understand the process in detail but also assist you with the
fertility centers that are most trusted for their excellent
quality and adapting to newer technologies.

11. Altius
Hospital
Being the Womb for Every Woman
Success comes from
curiosity, concentration,
perseverance and self-criticism.
It is your energy and persistence
that will make you conquer
your goals.
12. With the advent of technology, several medical
systems have evolved, from the first test tube in
the 70s to the assistive reproductive
technologies today. As things have improved with time, the
introduction of assisted reproductive technology like In
Vitro Fertilisation and others made every couple's dream
come true and gave them the happiness of being parents to
their child and, finally, the opportunity to celebrate with
society.
But observing the reality, one might wonder, "Are the new-
age fertility options accessible to all couples, and is the
process transparent and safe for every woman?”
In answering this question, many leading hospitals, in
collaboration with advancing technology and skilled
professionals, have tried to deliver safety and transparency
in the process and have made more families happy by
expanding access to fertility treatments.
One such leading hospital is Altius Hospital, whose core
values of transparency and ethical practices, along with
warmth and compassion in providing IVF treatment, have
positioned it as the most reliable name in the IVF &
Fertility Centre in 2022.
The hospital is touching the skies with its committed staff
and technology, who are rightly led and guided by its
Founder Dr. B. Ramesh, who has a special interest in
Infertility treatment and IVF and has been successfully
running three IVF centers in Bangalore.
Let's read more about the change the hospital is driving in
the healthcare sector.
The Inception Story
The journey of an arrow begins when an archer holds it on
the bowstring and ends when it strikes the center of the
archery board. The archer's goal is translated into reality by
the arrow. This scenario aptly summarizes the inspiration
behind the inception of Altius Hospital. The hospital was
started by Dr. B. Ramesh in 2004, where his inspiration was
his goal. He expresses, “over the journey of becoming a
doctor, I have seen many patients missing out on best
treatment option due to lack of advanced resources and
treatment options.”
To tackle this challenge and while reminiscing the
beginning, he continues, “Hence, my aim was to make
healthcare accessible for all. Everyone should get Quality
treatment at an affordable and transparent price.”
The target was set, and the journey had begun. And it was
all possible because of the ability and experience of the
founder.
Doctor Protean
Health emergencies call for skills of versatility and agility.
The founder with his specialization in various laparoscopic
sling procedures for nulliparous prolapse, Hysteroscopic
surgeries for uterine septum, Tubal Cannulations,
Adhesiolysis, and all methods of endometrial ablation,
including TCRE and LASER ablation, as an alternative to
hysterectomy, has led the hospital to reach up the ladder of

13. success. “We perform SILS,” he proudly shares, “We were
the first teams to perform 3D laparoscopic surgeries in
India.”
Elaborating further, he says, “I also treat cases of urinary
stress incontinence and laparoscopic pelvic floor repair
referred by Gynaecologists and other colleagues.”
Not limiting the ambitions and drive to provide quality care
and to have a special interest in Infertility treatment and
IVF, the founder, has been successfully running three IVF
centers in Bangalore.
Service, Compassion and Integrity– The Heart of Altius
An organization takes a professional jump when it sticks to
its core values. It becomes essential, especially in the
healthcare niche where most of the ethical dilemmas are
faced. Keeping in mind important, the hospital is driven by
its core values of transparency and ethical practice, which is
reachable to all sections of society. It is founded on three
pillars:
Ÿ Service
Ÿ Compassion
Ÿ Integrity
The hospital, to ensure that its' short-term goals are
achieved, is supported by a strong mission to always ensure
that the patient experience and care are at the heart of
everything the hospital serves to.
The commitment to core values is also visible in the
products and services the hospital offers.
Serving Affordability
Talking about the services the hospital offers, Dr. B.
Ramesh says, “Our USP is Advanced yet Affordable IVF
Care.” The hospital's USP is driven by a motto, which Dr.
B Ramesh describes as, “It is our endeavor to buy warmth
14. and compassion to IVF treatment with honesty and
transparency.”
The endeavor has drafted a linear growth curve for the
hospital as it is up to date and on par with all other
infertility centers. The founder proudly says, “we have 60%
successful pregnancy rates. An added advantage is that we
have a Laparoscopic facility which gives the upper hand on
better treatment for all the Infertility patients.”
This has distinguished its place in the market and made it
achieve a branding of being reliable in the fertility centers.
But some more factors and efforts have helped it reach this
position.
The Add-Ons: Pendent and Or1
Altius Hospital is one of India's best leading centers with
Gynaec Laparoscopic surgery, Infertility &
Urogynaecology treatments. It is a 50 Bedded Hospital with
High Tech State-of- art specialty center. Talking further
about his pride in the hospital, Dr. B. Ramesh says, “Our
hospital is renowned as the Third Operation Theatre in the
country to have OR1 system (first in Karnataka). With IVF
treatment, we are also Number 1 in Laparoscopic surgeries;
we provide advanced treatment facilities, i.e., V NOTES,
SILS, 3 D Lap, etc.”
Being abreast with the latest architectural design
innovations, the hospital has all equipment and monitors
suspended from the ceiling by pendents and cables. Gas
connections to the equipment run through the pendent. The
advantage of pendent system is saving floor space and
concealing all the cables and connections. Pendent with the
equipment can be moved to 360 degrees throughout in
operation room. Further elaborating on the benefits of the
OR1 system, he explains, “With OR1's help, the entire
control of Medical Devices, Lighting, Room, Cameras, and
Tele-conferencing from a Central Station inside or outside
with the sterile area communication BUS system (SCB) can
be monitored continuously & smoothly.”
The Doctor and his Tools
The world is surviving on machines, quite literally, and
hence every health organization needs to include upgrading
and evolving technological solutions in the dynamic
healthcare space. At Altius, this has been done through the
following fertility solutions to facilitate the latest fertility
treatments. These include:
Ÿ Clinically – NK cell Biopsy, BAPC: BM-derived stem
cell injection Hysteroscopically.
Ÿ Micromanipulation (ICSI)
Ÿ Laser Assisted Hatching
Ÿ Embryo Biopsy
Ÿ Time Lapse Imaging, PGD, PGS etc
The remarkable progress with the adoption of the latest
technology is seen in the amazing clinical pregnancy
success rate of 50 percent and the total pregnancy success
rate of 70 percent.
It is our endeavor to
buy warmth and
compassion to IVF
treatment with honesty
and transparency.
15. Patient's Tales
Patient's Tales
Mrs. Nandini,
“A er trying for many years spontaneously, we conceived through IVF treatment under
Dr. B. Ramesh and since then we have been under his constant supervision along with
his team. We had a very happy nine-month antenatal journey and delivered in safe
hands.”
Mrs. Madhushri,
“Today I've been blessed with my pregnancy positive news and all thanks to the entire team
at Altius Hospital. I had come to them with a failed IVF cycle at another center. I was
emotionally sha ered when I came. From my first consultation at Altius to the entire
treatment of my IVF cycle – I've realized how di erent and diligently Dr. Ramesh has
handled it. A thorough investigation was done for my previous failure and the entire team
of doctors and embryologists kept me updated regularly on the processes. And today I'm so
grateful to them for this positive news. I would also like to thank the sisters and counselor
and wish the best for the team at Altius.”
16. Ideating Future Change
Venturing into the minutia of technological advancements,
the solutions of machine learning and artificial intelligence
are proving to be like a trump for a hospital in patient care.
Along similar lines, talking about this, Dr. B. Ramesh
shares, “We have a data computerized system which gives
us correct analysis and tracking of patient's history and
progress. Artificial intelligence is yet to be implemented,
which we are going to soon apply in our near future to
improve our success rate. Machine learning will update us
in our academics to give us progress in our treatment
protocol.”
It is not just technology but human cognitive skills too that
enhance operations in any industry. The efficiency of these
skills, along with words of wisdom from the experienced,
turn a commoner into a leader.
Venture with Wisdom
When one ventures into a sector or plans to venture, several
apprehensions follow, which makes one doubt one's
capacities, making them straddle the career boat. Words
from a veteran surely help in such times. As a leader in the
healthcare industry, Dr. B. Ramesh's advice to budding
entrepreneurs is, “Success comes from curiosity,
concentration, perseverence and self-criticism. It is your
energy and persistence that will make you conquer your
goals.”
Scaling heights
While being in the present is good but being constant is not.
The present should be dynamic, which would help one
achieve future heights. Shaping the present of the hospital
while being dynamic, the founder envisions the future of
the hospital as, “Now with years of experience in the
subject, I want to promote all the recent advances used in
western countries to be easily available for our patients. I
want to establish a well-trained team of doctors to make my
Altius Hospital the best Healthcare center. To train all the
young doctors with the advanced facility so that they will
take it forward to the higher step.”
We were the first teams
to perform 3D laparoscopic
surgeries in India.

hardworking, just, and a trusted advisor to many.
Ever since I graduated as a gynecologist, I always wanted
to have my hospital, which would house various
departments, and most importantly, that hospital should not
smell or look like conventional hospitals. I visualized it to

elegant ambiance. So, all patients find it pleasant to the eye
and would look forward to further treatment again.

21. We run our Training programs for Doctors, Embryologists,
Nurses and Students. We have a lot of resources as a
Hospital and Research Institute.
We have our own Molecular Laboratory, where we run
dissertation programs for Students, Embryology lab where
all Clinical Science and Research are conducted. We have
conducted more than 5 Clinical trials on Site since 2015.
Being an experienced leader, share your opinion on how
adopting modern technologies like artificial intelligence
(AI) and machine learning (ML) is impacting the
healthcare industry and how your organization is
adapting to this change.
Being in this field for the last 30 years, I have noticed a
great deal of change in terms of technology intervention.
Technology has entered all fields and it has helped a lot in
the medical fraternity. Assisted Reproductive Technology is
a field that requires a lot of Witnessing.
Patients from all over the globe put their trust in our
organization. There is a massive amount of psychological,
mental and physical burden on patients regarding their
confidential information. Keeping that in mind, we have
invested in a Witnessing machine that generates Patient ID
and has a Bar code system that attaches the bar code to
every consumable of patients.
So, the patient is at ease and can trust our
brand/organization. In addition to this, we believe that
nothing beats the experience and knowledge of humans. Yet
we feel that technical assistance is necessary. Therefore, we
have invested in Software that grades Human Embryos by
the picture.
It is a necessary step to upgrade ourselves and inculcate this
amazing technology. Artificial Intelligence is very helpful
and necessary for an organization's upgradation.
This is the way forward in the future.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the healthcare sector?
Identifying the different entrepreneur opportunities in
healthcare is not a one-size-fits-all process. Some people
succeed with their first project, while others take years and
multiple tries before they break through.
It is important to gain knowledge, work hard, make good
connections, stay flexible and humble and constantly evolve
to have good gains and succeed.
Remember, there is no shortcut to success.
How do you envision scaling your organization's
operations and offerings in 2022 and beyond?
My aim has always been to stay updated on advanced
technologies, refine our skills, and procure the latest types
of equipment to give the best results to our patients. After
the global pandemic, the year 2022 appears to be a good
bounce back for resuming fertility treatments, which were
on a long hold viz a viz, an estimated one million women
have conceived during the pandemic.
In especially 2022, we want to serve each of these women
efficiently. We also have huge plans for expansion as we are
coming up with our fertility chains pan India in the name of
ZIVIA IVF, where we are planting centers in Jaipur, Pune,
Bhopal, Mumbai, and many more.
Please give us a few testimonials from your clients and
awards or recognition that accurately highlight your
organization's position in the market.

In the long lifespan filled with ambitions to fulfill, every
one is backed by a strong support system. What was this
for you and how did you help you fly higher in your
professional journey?
I am very proud of my entire team of 400 staff members
who are like my extended family, most of whom have been
with me since the start of my practice 38 years back.
I am ever so grateful to the almighty, who chose me to treat
my patients to the best of my abilities and knowledge. My
family, especially my husband Dr. Hitesh Patel, an
orthopedic surgeon, for constant support and guidance.
I am happy to mention here that my son – Dr. Niket and my
daughter-in-law – Dr. Molina, have joined me in my
practice for 9 years now. Working together as a family helps
in more efficient micromanagement of the hospital and also
makes me put my best foot forward for all my patients.

Healthcare Niche
ealthcare is an industry in desperate need of
Hinnovative ideas. Health plans, healthcare
providers, life sciences firms and the government
deal with rising costs and outcome inconsistencies.
However, they are currently focusing on enhancing care
facilities, improving health and reducing spending to
achieve the triple goal.
Innovation is the source of all human development and
quality of life improvement. Simultaneously, they question
existing standards, solutions and societal patterns. More
specifically, healthcare innovations allow us to treat
previously incurable diseases or use scarce resources better.
What innovations will most likely be implemented in the
Healthcare sector to achieve the goals and transform
healthcare in the upcoming years?
Without further ado, let's learn about some of them!
Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)
Improvements to genetic sequencing might also lead to the
development of diagnostic tests that can identify at-risk

26. populations and save funds on future healthcare costs.
Diagnostic tests may also help health practitioners direct
specific medications to patients who are likely to benefit
from them, reducing or eliminating ineffective treatments.
Considerable advances in genetic testing are expected to
help scientists and clinicians improve their comprehension
of genetic indicators for disease susceptibility and patients'
likely response to treatment. The first human genome was
decoded in 2001 by researchers working on the Human
Genome Project, which took 15 years and cost $3 billion.
Genetic testing has a wide range of applications in
population health screening and identifying at-risk
populations where early intervention would be
advantageous. Identifying subpopulations that may respond
better to treatment could aid in getting the right drug to the
right patient at the right time. As a result, inefficiencies
could be reduced, and patients receiving treatment could
receive more consistent responses.
Immunotherapy
Immunotherapies can significantly improve cancer patients'
survival rates while preventing the adverse side effects and
associated healthcare costs associated with traditional
chemotherapy. Immunotherapy refers to drug classes that
enhance the body's capacity for building immune responses.
It could treat allergies, inflammatory diseases, bacterial
infections, cancer, and neurological disorders.
Oncology has seen successful applications where therapies
can counteract how tumors inhibit the immune function and
instead help the immune response to attack tumor cells
effectively. Checkpoint inhibitors, like PD-1 and PDL-1
inhibitors, and adoptive t-cell therapy, like CAR-T, interest
researchers.
Immunotherapies are currently showing promising results.
CAR-T therapy for blood cancers has demonstrated
response rates of 70-90 percent.
Point of Care Diagnostics (POC)
POC diagnostics enable easy and swift testing at the point
of care, resulting in more efficient, cohesive and
cost-effective patient care. POC diagnostics can be used by
patients in the doctor's office, ambulance, home, or hospital.
Blood glucose, pregnancy, and HIV tests are currently
available at home.
Some medical device and diagnostic companies are
developing POC tests for cancer, tuberculosis and stroke
markers, among others. These diagnostics could help with
chronic disease prevention, early detection and
management. When test results are provided to patients
while receiving care, it speeds up diagnoses, increases care
efficiencies and potentially lowers costs associated with
delayed treatment. Analysts predict that the market for
point-of-care diagnostics will exceed $3 billion by 2021, up
from $2.13 billion in 2015.
Trackers and Biosensors
Biosensors embedded in rapidly shrinking wearables and
medical devices enable consumers and clinicians to monitor
and track more aspects of patient's health, allowing for
earlier intervention and even prevention in a much less
intrusive manner into patients' lives.
Activity trackers, monitors and sensors embedded in
clothing, accessories, and implantable medical devices are
evolving to monitor and detect increasing health indicators.
These trackers and sensors could track changes inside a
patient's body medication levels, blood/hormone/protein
levels, and device performance in addition to monitoring
exercise, nutrition, and vital signs. Patients are more likely
to accept these devices as they become smaller and less
intrusive. Some predict that wearables will become so small
that they will "disappear" from consumers' minds.
Biosensing advancements could improve patient
engagement, medication adherence, disease monitoring and
health outcomes. Clinicians and researchers could use the
collected data to intervene earlier and more frequently and
to better understand treatment effectiveness.
To conclude,
The innovations mentioned above can potentially transform
the healthcare system as a whole. However, depending on
its core strategies, offerings and goals, organizations would
be impacted to varying degrees. Healthcare executives
should concentrate on innovations that can improve their
business models.

28. ospitals complement and amplify the effectiveness
Hof many other parts of the health system, provid-
ing continuous availability of services for acute
and complex conditions. They concentrate scarce resources
within well-planned referral networks to respond efficiently
to population health needs. Today, hospitals are playing an
increasingly important role in people’s lives; with great
pollution levels and changing lifestyles, more and more
people are falling prey to diseases and requiring adequate
medical care.
Hospitals matter to people and often mark central points in
their lives. They also matter to health systems by being
instrumental in care coordination and integration. They
often provide a setting for the education of doctors, nurses,
and other healthcare professionals and are a critical base for
clinical research.
Back in 1975, Ashakiran Hospital was established in the
heart of Pune with the sole purpose of delivering standard-
ized healthcare. In 2000, the health institution made its first
foray into the realm of IVF.
Under the adept leadership of Dr Ashish Kale, Ashakiran
Hospital has built its top-notch IVF facility with the express
purpose of offering affordable IVF to all needy people
around the nation. Moreover, the health center adheres to
ensuring the excellent quality of its care in every way,
including through the use of facilities like D5 embryo
transfer, laser hatching, and gamete freezing.
Below are highlights of the interview with Dr Ashish that
represent how Ashakiran Hospital is improving the
fertilization process by adopting the most advanced
reproductive technology and changing many lives.
Enlighten our readers about Ashakiran Hospital’s
offerings and what aspects make it stand out in the
healthcare industry.
The cost at which we offer IVF cycles is very minimal; we
have even offered free cycles to patients with the orange
card or below the BPL line and keep it a point to offering at
least one free cycle a month after going through all the
documents of the patient and after ensuring that it is a very
genuine case. We have also offered free semen storage for
army personnel because of their commitment to our
country, which is much greater than ours as doctors.
With ever-evolving technological marvels, how is your
organization providing the most recent fertility treat-
ments, especially when it comes to catering to the
healthcare space's dynamic needs?
As you rightly said, healthcare is moving in leaps and
bounds and progressing towards establishing a better
standard of care. Keeping up with this space, our lab has
recently installed the benchtop incubator, which gives you a
100% blastocyst rate, which is nothing but a D5 embryo.
We also have the latest laser hatching facility, which is used
for implantation failure cases or in difficult circumstances
when you feel that the blastocyst may not hatch.
We have used microfluidics to the best of its ability to get a
good sperm count and low motility in cases of OATS,
which is oligosasthenoteratozoospermia

31. We have moved towards doing a single embryo transfer,
which ensures pregnancy in the patient even after we
transfer one embryo, and this also gives the patient a chance
to store more embryos for a future embryo transfer attempt
or even for a second pregnancy.
Being an experienced leader, can you share your opinion
on how adopting modern technologies like artificial
intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) is impact-
ing the healthcare industry and how your organization
is adapting to this change?
We have Artificial Intelligence in IVF or test tube babies as
well, where the Artificial Intelligence software actually
chooses the best of the embryos, giving you a high
implantation rate and a higher clinical pregnancy rate, and
there is also a sperm nanobot that has recently entered the
picture, which selects the best possible sperm among
millions of sperm with a higher possibility of fertilizing the
egg and giving you a good embryo that is going to be
implanted.
We were among the first IVF centers to do a large study on
the use of this artificial intelligence, ERICA, to select the
embryo with highest potential of implanting after embryo
transfer, and we were successful in giving pregnancy to
about 90% of the cases.
This system used more than 500 variables at one time to
scan the embryo. This result increased from a baseline
success rate of 60% because of the implementation of
artificial intelligence. However, this system still has a little
while to come into routine practice because of the cost
involved, the accessibility, the ability and the acceptance.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the healthcare sector?
Always follow your conviction. Be very ethical in your
practice, adapt to newer technologies, and always practice
evidence-based medicine that is layered with your experi-
ence. This is definitely a very rewarding sector.
The joy that you can give to these childless couples is
unmatched. Believe me, when any couple gets this good
news after spending years going through treatments, the joy
knows no boundaries because in our country, we still
believe in families, and it is still a closed culture. Accepting
this treatment still has a long way to go and needs a lot of
awareness to be created.
How do you envision scaling your organization’s
operations and offerings in 2022 and beyond?
Well, after COVID hit in 2020, we were all stagnant and
taken for a toss. I was also thinking that where this will
leave the health sector and its up for grabs, but two years
after COVID, I see that this field is expanding massively.
Because we now see a lot of patients suffering from
subfertility, the demand for infertility centers has also
increased. Couples especially female partners are now more
open about their problems; they have better access to
healthcare workers, and it is a very good sign when people
approach us at the right time because, when we have time
on our hands, we can give them the best treatment. In fact,
this has given us a chance to reflect on how the world has
moved to an online platform, which has reduced distances. I
myself manage more than half of my centers online now, so
it has become very easy to expand to reach out to the
centers across the globe and to deliver the same kind of
treatment everywhere.

Dr. Supriya Puranik, the Gynaecologist and IVF expert
joins the interview to share her knowledge of IVF treatment
procedures at the hospital company.
What is the current scenario of IVF and how is the
hospital contributing to enable enhancements in the
niche?
IVF is not the only treatment. It is one of the infertility
treatments. It is now a known fact that Infertility amongst
both men and women is rising at an alarming rate in India.
While young India strives to achieve more and more, they
leave some of the most important decisions of their lives for
the future and that's when the problem begins.
Blame it on—rapid urbanization, their faulty lifestyles like
binging junk food too often, not enough sleep, lack of
exercise, alcohol, smoking, increasing financial needs of the
young couple which leads to postponement of decisions to
become parents, peer pressure—the fact remains that in all
of this rat race, people seldom understand that time doesn't
wait for anybody. The fact also is that women have to bear
the brunt of social stigma. Looking at this picture and
putting the causes into perspective, State-of-the-art fertility
centres are the need of the hour.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the healthcare sector?
One is blessed to be in the healthcare sector as it is an
opportunity to serve mankind like no other. Success will
come and go, but what's more essential is a shared vision
and social responsibility. This will enable young
entrepreneurs to solve real-life challenges in the healthcare
sector.
How do you envision scaling your organization's
operations and offerings in 2022 and beyond?
With increasing trust and a strengthening bond of Sahyadri
hospitals towards the community and Pune being a hub for
medical tourism and tertiary care, the footfalls have been
increasing resulting in higher occupancies. We have been in
constant exercise to build up our capacities and scale up our
facilities. Beyond 2022, we will continue to adopt newer
technologies and expand our facilities. But the most
important aspect of our service will remain compassion and
our relationship with patients and their families.
38. Technological
Understanding the
Evolution in
Healthcare
Sector
The use of technology in the healthcare sector is
seemingly limitless. Healthtech is used in
everything from hospital administrative processes
to cancer research and surgery to increase efficiency and
make the patient experience as painless as possible.
Working hand in hand with technology is the future of
healthcare, and healthcare workers must embrace emerging
technologies to remain relevant in the coming years. We
must become acquainted with the most recent developments
to control technology rather than the other way around.
With advances in digital healthcare technologies such as
artificial intelligence, VR/AR, 3D-printing, robotics,
nanotechnology, and more. The future of healthcare is
taking shape right in front of our eyes.
Let's look at some of the most notable technological
evolutions and learn about them!
Tricorder for Medical Use
With the exponential advancement of healthcare
technology, we now live in a world where similar devices
that were once a figment of sci-fi enthusiasts' imaginations
are now a reality! The Viatom CheckMe Pro is a palm-sized
device that can measure ECG, heart rate, oxygen saturation,
temperature, blood pressure, and other parameters. Other
companies are also working on similar devices, such as the
MedWand, which, in addition to measuring multiple vital
parameters, includes a camera for telemedical purposes.
Another FDA-approved BioSticker from BioIntelliSense
can measure various parameters such as respiratory rate,
heart rate, skin temperature, body position, activity levels,
sleep status, gait, and more.
Although the current products are far from the tricorder, we
will arrive soon. High-powered microscopes with

samples and photos of skin lesions. Sensors could detect
DNA errors as well as antibodies and specific proteins. An
electronic nose, an ultrasonic probe, or almost anything else
could be linked to a smartphone and used to enhance its
capabilities. And we must prepare for it!
Genome Sequencing
The entire Human Genome Project cost the US government
approximately $2.7 billion, an absurdly large sum.
Especially when you consider that DNA sequencing giant
Illumina unveiled a new machine in January 2017 that the
company says is "expected one day" to order up your entire
genome for less than $100.
Last year, Illumina's CEO reiterated that the company is
still working towards that goal. It indicates that a genetic
test may be less expensive than a general blood test. These
tests have a lot of potential! One can learn about your drug
sensitivity, multifactorial or monogenic medical conditions,
and family history.
Furthermore, various fields, such as nutrigenomics, a cross-
field of nutrition, dietetics and genomics, are already
leveraging the benefits of genome sequencing. Some
companies, including the California-based startup Habit,
offer personalized diets based on genetic codes.
Revolutionized Drug Development
Currently, the process of developing new drugs is both
time-consuming and costly. However, methods ranging
from artificial intelligence to in silico trials can be used to
improve drug development. Such new technologies and
approaches already exist and will continue to dominate the
pharmaceutical landscape in the coming years.
In silico drug, trials are another promising healthcare
technology. Individualized computer simulations are used
in developing or regulatory assessments of a medical
product, device, or intervention. While current technology
and biological understanding do not allow for fully
simulated clinical trials, significant progress has been made
in this field with organs-on-a-chip, which are already in use.
HumMod, or "the most complete, mathematical model of
human physiology ever created," is used in several research
projects. The Virtual Physiological Human (VPH) Institute
has also created virtual models to study heart diseases and
osteoporosis.
Robotics
Robotics is the most exciting and rapidly growing field in
healthcare, with developments ranging from robot
companions to surgical robots to pharmaceutics,
disinfectant robots and exoskeletons.
Robot companions can also help alleviate loneliness, treat
mental health issues, and even assist children with chronic
illnesses. Existing examples include the Jibo, Pepper, Paro
and Buddy robots.
Some have touch sensors, cameras, and microphones to
allow their owners to interact with them. For example, Ikki,
an Australian startup, assists children with chronic illnesses
by monitoring their medications, temperature and breathing
rate while entertaining them with music and stories.
Technology in Surgery
Over the years, surgery has seen some of the most
significant advancements in health-tech efficiency and
progress. Robots are assisting with a wide range of
operations as you read this, from minor non-invasive
procedures to open-heart surgery.
These robotic surgical assistants come in all shapes and
sizes, from a tiny bot that crawls across the surface of the
heart to a massive arm that serves as an extra set of hands
during procedures.
However, robots are not the only technology infiltrating the
operating room. Virtual and augmented reality assist
doctors and surgeons in performing critical tasks such as
practicing new surgical techniques and more thoroughly
explaining procedures to patients.
To sum up,
Technology has transformed healthcare, which is expected
to continue in the coming years. There is no limit to how far
technological evolutions in the healthcare industry can go
as long as healthcare organizations and professionals keep
their minds open and build the necessary infrastructure and
systems.

42. Solo Clinic IVF
A Trusted Solution in Treating Infertility
oday, In-vitro Fertilization or IVF, is a household
Tname. This treatment has revolutionized the world
of medicine and, ultimately, the world of all those
who could not conceive.
Fertility clinics play an essential role in the modern
healthcare system. By helping single people and couples
identify fertility issues and find creative solutions, fertility
clinics help people achieve their goals of living a happy
life.
When you visit a fertility clinic, a specialist who is an
expert in the area of fertility helps you with effective
treatments that reduce the complexity and solve the
problems. These clinics offer specialized, onsite facilities
that provide fertility treatments, testing and support from
highly trained professionals. While couples often consider
making lifestyle changes to improve their chances of
pregnancy, shared decision-making, along with accurate
diagnosis and therapy, proves to facilitate the achievement
of their fertility goals during the treatment.
Solo Clinic IVF has been a prominent healthcare
organization in treating infertility and a trusted leader since
1992. It is one of Asia's leading infertility investigators with
the widest range of fertility solutions provided all under one
roof. Whether it is about having an in-depth understanding
of the science of fertility and reproduction, its advanced
state-of-art technology and protocols, exemplary patient
care, or attention to detail, Solo Clinic IVF has been
consistently delivering results for patients all across the
world.
Led by its Founder and Medical Advisor, Dr Sunita
Tandulwadkar, the clinic provides 24/7 care for its patients
and has managed to deliver more than 25,000 Infertility
Treatments successfully.
In an interview with Insights Care, Dr Sunita shared
significant facts while shedding the spotlight on Solo
Clinic's prolonged prominence in the modern healthcare
industry.
Below are the excerpts from the interview
What are the key services that Solo Clinic IVF offers to
its clients?
Our key services at Solo Clinic IVF focus on the following:
During IVF, the female partner is stimulated to produce
more eggs simultaneously. When a majority of these eggs
mature, they are retrieved to culture for three to four hours
before proceeding to IVF with washed sperms. These
sperms are then released, and fertilization takes place
naturally.
ICSI is adopted when an infertile couple needs help with
seminal problems. In this case, a single sperm is directly
injected into a mature egg of the female.
These sperms are magnified 400 times and then selected
based on their normal morphology before injecting them
into the egg.

45. and Donor Sperms. Together they address various infertility
concerns that both male and female partners may have,
making Solo Clinic IVF an all-in-one solution to their
concerns.
What technological advances does the clinic has
incorporated in supporting its operations and treating
patients effectively?
At our Clinic, technology plays a significant role in
conducting infertility operations. Thus, the clinic ensures
that all of its technology is advanced and upgraded to meet
its patient's unique needs. For instance, IMSI is the latest
technology in the field of Assisted Reproductive Techniques
that enables embryologists to magnify sperm as high as
7200 times. This magnification procedure enables them to
select morphologically normal sperm, improve pregnancy
outcomes and reduce abortion rates.
Such technology is a pride for our clinic as we are one of
the few centers worldwide to be well equipped to perform
IMSI.
What, in your opinion, are the most common signs to
identify infertility in young women, and what is the best
way to deal with them?
In my opinion, pregnancy is a far more complex process as
it involves several internal factors to determine a woman's
ability to conceive.
While at times, infertility symptoms may be very clear, at
other times, a doctor may recommend you an endoscopic
test. One of the most common signs of infertility is the
inability to ovulate. This affects 40% of the women and
they may face trouble conceiving. Other signs may be
related to the menstrual cycle, like painful or irregular
periods. In addition, hormonal imbalance may also indicate
potential issues related to fertility.
However, I would suggest that it is common for couples to
experience infertility without experiencing any signs or
symptoms until they start trying. Fortunately, there are
several proven, safe and effective treatments, such as in-
vitro-fertilization (IVF), that can be carried out to overcome
infertility issues and conceive.
Shed some light on male infertility. How can the clinic
offer its support to males experiencing an inability to
cause pregnancy in their female partners?
In India, male infertility accounts for 40 to 50% of the total
male population, affecting 7% of all men. This rise in
concern may be due to changes in lifestyle, environmental
toxins, heat exposure, and stress that has brought gained the
attention of researchers and infertility specialists in the
matter.
Some strategies I would suggest to prevent male infertility
are avoiding smoking, as it damages sperm DNA, avoiding
alcohol and excessive health. Wearing a protective cup
during sports is also a smart way to prevent injury that may
lead to infertility.
Solo Clinic IVF has a solution for all causes of male
infertility. Through its latest modalities like ICSI and IMSI,
along with in-house trained embryologists, several couples
are now able to achieve their dream of parenthood.
Please mention client testimonials or recognitions that
your company may have attained along its journey to
success.
"We were referred to Dr. Sunita by one of our family
friends. In our first meeting, she made us feel so
comfortable and explained the entire process to us step by
step in detail. After that meeting, we were very confident
and decided to proceed with the treatment. Once the
treatment had begun, everything was processed smoothly as
Dr. Sunita and her team are extremely efficient in doing this
job. She came like a messiah in our lives; we have fallen
short of words to thank her."
- John Manavalan, In Vitro-Embryo Transfer
Lastly, what is your advice to couples who are currently
experiencing infertility?
I would suggest that it is important to remember that
fertility treatments such as IVF may not always be possible.
Hence it is crucial to listen and understand everything that
the specialist has to say before making a decision.
