8. 1.RAW MATERIAL
The metallic gears with cut teeth are commercially obtained in Cast
Iron, Steel and Bronze.
ï CAST IRON-
ï¶ manufacturing of gears due to its good wearing properties.
ï¶ ease of producing complicated shapes by casting method.
ï¶ employed where smooth action is not important.
ï STEEL-
ï¶ Used for high strength gears.
ï¶ steel gears are usually heat treated in order to combine properly
the toughness and tooth hardness.
ï BRONZE-
ï¶ reduce wear of the gears which will be excessive with Cast iron or
steel.
9. The raw material for manufacturing gears in âHITECH GEARS LTD. BHIWADIâ
are usually steel bars & are supplied by âMUKUND STEELSâ & âVARDHMAN STEELSâ
in bhiwadi itself.
10. 2.HOT FORGING BY PRESS-
ï” involves the shaping of metal using continuous compressive forces slowly.
ï” The process starts by heating the bar to 1,200 to 1,300 °C using high-power
induction coils. It is then descaled with rollers, sheared into blanks, and
transferred through several successive forming stages, during which it is
upset, preformed, final forged.
3.COLD FORGING BY PRESS-
ï” Cold working of Metal at room temp.
ï” develop strength & hardness in a component, have a bright & clean finish &
eliminate forging scales.
11. 4.HOBBING-
ï” Is a machining process for making gears.
ï” Process Progressively cuts the teeths in the gear by using a cutting tool
known as hob.
5.TOOTH CHAMFERING-
12. 6.GEAR SHAVING-
ï” Is a technique for generating improved tooth shape in gears of involute
design.
ï” Gear shaving originated as a means for avoiding undesirable undercutting of
the root of the tooth in gears with small numbers of teeth (caused by
imperfections in the tool).
ï” Gear shaving may be used to improve the quality of meshing between two
gears or between a gear and a rack.
13. 7.BROACHING-
ï” is a machining process that uses a toothed tool, called a broach, to remove
material.
ï” is used when precision machining is required, especially for odd shapes.
- a broached workpiece
14. 8.DRILLING IN GEARS-
9.PUNCHING-
ï” is a metal forming process that uses a punch press to force a tool, called
a punch, through the workpiece to create a hole.
16. 11.INSPECTION-
ï” Fully equipped standard Room for gear parameter inspection.
ï” Fully equipped metallurgical lab for hardness & microstructure
inspection.

17. 4.CLASSIFICATION OF GEARS-
1.According to the position of axes of the shaft:- The axes of the two shafts
between which the motion is to be transmitted, may be:
ï” Parallel
ï” Intersecting
ï” Non Intersecting and Non Parallel
2.According to the peripheral velocity of gears:-The gears according to the
peripheral velocity of Gears may be classified as:
ï” Low velocity
ï” Medium Velocity
ï” High Velocity
18. 3.According to the type of gearing:- According to the type of Gearing, the
gears can be classified as:-
a.External gearing
b.internal gearing
c.Rack and pinion
4.According to the position of teeth on gear surface:- The teeth on Gear
surface may be:
a.Straight
b.Inclined
c.Curved
