8. The role of Demand-Side Management for energy supply
All businesses using a significant amount
of electricity should explore DSM in order
to combat spiraling third-party charges.

between 30-50% of supply by 2020 and
invest roughly £400m.
This offers real opportunities for
businesses; as either an income stream,

9. How an Energy Broker can help you out
Brokers can assist you with your meter change so you can
pick the most suitable Meter Operator Contract and Data
Collector.
They can collect data to establish the ‘shape’ of your
consumption; is it smooth or ‘spikey’? Are the spikes in your
energy consumption during high charging periods? Or is a
machine being left on over the weekend?
They identify all the new data available on your
consumption, highlight issues and inconsistencies, and
indicate further opportunities for cost savings.
10. Brokers help source and negotiate the best energy contract for
you. They use their additional knowledge and expertise to
understand the ‘shape’ of your consumption and advise you
accordingly.
They check that your business’s energy invoices have been
filed correctly. Brokers also check for any non-energy charges
because sometimes your bills can get more and more
complex.
They give you pre-warning about Triads (November –
February) where energy costs are higher.
