Lampiran 4
POINTS OF INTERVENTIONS INDONESIA PADA THEMATIC PANEL 2
Disampaikan oleh Delri wakil dari generasi muda (M. Iman Usman)
As we are approaching the deadline of MDGs in 2015, there are still lot of homeworks need to be done. We cannot work by ourselves only, but we need to engage young people to tackle those problems. With nearly half of the world’s population under the age of 25, young people can make an important to contribution to the global prosperity. But, I am the one who always believe that young people are not only big in ideas but also innovations. We have seen lot of efforts in providing platform and opportunities for young people to speak up their minds and participate. We give the chance to speak, but sometimes we were not being listened to.
We need to move on from youth participation to youth engagement, by involving young people in policy making, particularly in the issues that related to themselves. Allow them to give inputs, deal with policy making, involve in lobbying, and negotiating process. Let them to choose and make decision on what is the best for themselves, and be responsible on what they chose. Share the responsibilities. We do not want to take adult’s position, we just want to contribute, and we want to be responsible as part of the world.
We need to intensify global partnership to tackle those challenges by allocating more funds for youth-led projects, technical assistance, and intensifying the platform for sharing best practices among young people worldwide, and please make it less bureaucratic. We believe that international cooperation is not only can be achieved through formal institution arrangements such as the UN system and other international organizations, but also the digital revolution can increase the flow of ideas and strategies to tackle the most difficult problems we are facing today. ICTs are the tools that facilitate the transfer of knowledge and skills suited in life in the 21st history. They enhance human capacity. With them, young people can more actively act as catalyst for change locally and globally.
Let me also take this opportunity to share what Indonesia has done. We firmly believe that youth development depends on the education and marketable skills they acquire to ready themselves for the world of work, whether in vocational or professional fields. Indonesia has committed to provide young people with an environment that allows them to realize their maximum potential. First, our four-prongs development strategy that is pro-growth, pro-jobs, pro-poor, and pro-environment. This ‘growth with equity’ strategy is designed to allow young people to obtain full time decent employment as a way of reducing the level of poverty both in urban and rural communities, thereby protecting the environment. Second, Indonesia is determined to narrow the social gap and protection of the environment. We call it eco-market economy with social justice. In Indonesia, we intend to advance a national green skills development strategy. We plan to pursue a decentralized youth apprenticeship program for green jobs.
I would like to encourage every people to treat young people not like less important part of society. Make us as important as you all, because we are equal. We just like you all that deserved to be heard. Without us, the young people, there will be no future, nor the world.
***
