  5. 5. 6 Position sensors Robust full-metal sensors for use in harsh environments Inductive sensors Short: ideal for tight spaces Flexible: temperature range from -40...85 °C Sealed: protection ratings IP 65 to IP 69K Quality: high-grade stainless for food processes Solid: shock and vibration resistant High reliability even under extreme conditions Full-metal sensors are used wherever an application presents particular challenges to the mechanical design. In the food industry, for example, not only rapid changes of temperature but also aggressive media used for daily cleaning stress the housing material. The same applies to applications in machine tools and plants where the sensors are permanently exposed to coolants and lubricants. In the steel industry or in automotive industry, however, weld spatter is not only a strain on the sensing face but also on the threaded sleeve. In this context the full-metal design with non-stick coating and the robust sensing face are the ideal solution to ensure a safe operation. Moreover, the robust stainless steel design offers optimum protection against abrasive parts in metal-cutting machining. Additionally, the compact and short design permits use even in the smallest of spaces.

They are for example perfectly suited for the detection of aluminium, where conventional sensors show a considerably reduced sensing range. The high switching frequencies enable the monitoring of fast changing switching states. The resistant stainless steel sleeve allows reliable use in oil and coolant applications. The sensor housing and the fixing nuts have a non-stick coating to prevent sticking of weld slag. Strong magnetic fields occur in welding processes. The new sensor technology prevents incorrect switching. The quick connection with the connector and matching cable from the ecolink range is the ideal basis for permanent use.

They can be used as switching sensors with an adjustable switch point or measuring systems with a measured value transmitted via IO-Link. The output signal can be set to NC or NO and PNP or NPN allowing many possible combinations. This keeps the number of different types down, reducing the cost of stock. Highest precision The new sensors are so precise that they detect even minute changes. Even the true run of a spindle or the tension of a saw blade is reliably detected. An alarm can be set if the target leaves the detection zone or comes too close to the sensing face. All data acquired can be transmitted via IO-Link and recorded. This new development is unbeatable.

  13. 13. 14 Position sensors Ingeniously simple: display guide for the perfect setting Capacitive sensors Unique visualisation and handling concept via LED display See and compensate switch point movement IP 69K gives high ingress resistance PNP/NPN, NO/NC, timer function For medium temperatures up to 110 °C Visualised switch point The new capacitive sensors stand out not only because of their excellent technical data but most of all with their new and unique visualisation concept. Using a 12-LED bar display of the PerformanceLine the user can always adapt the switch point to suit the application conditions – it is always in the centre of the display. The green LEDs either side of the switch point indicate the reliability of the switch point. Deposits, material changes etc. are displayed directly on the sensor and the user can readjust the switch point precisely as needed. An imminent error can be detected in good time and avoided thus minimising the risk of failures or deactivation. If help is needed with the effects of process changes this is much easier to explain and rectify with the LED display. Over the phone the user can describe the LED behaviour and a support engineer can easily advise corrective measures.

In challenging applications, the combination of magnetic sensor and target can maximise performance. Restricted space New magnets with a small design offer easier mounting options in a machine, even where space is restricted, due to countersinks or a thread. Due to the new targets it is possible to double the M12 sensors’ range while an enlargement of clear space between sensor and magnet provides a more flexible installation as well as an increased process safety.

With its 1.8 mm sensing range it shows reliable switching characteristics. The new operating principle of this unit is based on a magnetic-inductive technology that detects only ferromagnetic metals (e.g. steel). It is sealed by means of an O-ring and a supporting ring towards the pressure area. Applications Besides use in hydraulic cylinders, the sensor is also ideal for other hydraulic components such as valves or pumps. MFH operates reliably for the lifetime of the cylinder. Furthermore, it is used in mechanical engineering processes, e.g. in plastic injection-moulding or process industry applications. Its attractive price means the sensor can also be considered for simple components where this option used to be too expensive.

  23. 23. 24 Position sensors New versions of the amazing tiny O8 photocell Photoelectric sensors Photoelectric miniature sensor with maximum precision The new powerful O8 sensor is an optimum choice for applications where space is at a premium such as assembly and robotics. It might be small, but the sensor achieves very long ranges. Moreover the background suppression is extremely reliable and precise even for the detection of very small, flat or reflective objects. The O8 reliably copes even with constantly changing backgrounds, e.g. on robot arms. Reliable and efficient thanks to IO-Link IO-Link allows simple setting of the ranges and sensitivity, with the range adjustable to the nearest millimetre. This technology guarantees high accuracy in a very compact housing with only 19 mm across flats at a cost- optimised price/performance ratio. Applications With the seal-less design of the process connection the sensors can be used not only in hydraulic applications but also in inert gases. In industrial applications the laser labelling on the housing is also advantageous. Even in adverse environmental conditions, the sensor remains permanently identifiable. Another advantage is the integrated IO-Link interface. Thanks to IO-Link the new pressure sensor continuously transmits process values and other important data, e.g. a pressure peak counter. Moreover, the digital measurement results are more accurate because there are no conversion losses by D/A converters or external influences (e.g. cable lengths).
