2. The workshop
This workshop is designed for engineers and technicians from a wide range of abilities and
backgrounds and will provide an excellent introduction to the fundamentals of heating,
ventilation and air-conditioning. It commences with a review of psychrometric charts and then
examines the factors that influence design choices, indoor air quality, load calculations and
heating/ventilation and air-conditioning systems. Numerous tips and tricks throughout the
workshop make it very practical and topical to your applications.
Pre-requisites
Fundamental knowledge of basic mechanical plant and operation thereof.
Avril has over 34 years of working experience. He did his apprenticeship
in the early eighties at the South African Airways, Railways and Harbours
as an electrician. He also qualified in the trade of HVAC&R.
His training was essentially in substations (medium to low voltage) and industrial air-
conditioning. He was involved with earthing, surge protection and noise mitigation at the
various substations at the railways, harbours and airways.
Avril has worked on 3000v dc applications at the railways and also acquired substantial
experience in transformers, protective devices, motors, generators, cables, switchgear and
substation design.
Sixteen years ago he invented and built the âUnifridgeâ which is currently being used and
studied in 30 institutions in South Africa and in one institution in Saudi Arabia.
Avril also lectures electrical engineering technology and HVAC&R at the University of
Johannesburg.
He has worked in Ireland, Angola, England, Germany, Mauritius and Malaysia, solving
industrial engineering problems. He lectures from a hands on approach and is a passionate
instructor.
The fee for each workshop covers all materials
including workshop manual, lunches
and refreshments
