e-Infrastructures: objectives

• Promote an ICT-based environment, in which
all researchers have an easy-to-use controlled
access to unique or distributed scientific
facilities, regardless of their type and location
in the world

• Strengthen collaboration between research
centres and their researchers in virtual
research communities, enabling worldwide
sustainable partnerships in all e-Science fields

• Build a more transparent infrastructure layer
adequately serving cross-disciplinary needs

1.2. Service and Software Architectures,
Infrastructures and Engineering (Target outcome)

a. Service architecture, platforms, technologies, methods and tools that
enable context-awareness and discovery, advertising, personalisation and
dynamic composition of services.

b. Service/software engineering approaches development processes,
product lifecycle and tools for dynamically composed systems.

c. Strategies and technologies enabling mastery of complexity,
dependability and behavioural stability in complex systems and in
systems evolving over time without central design.

d. Virtualisation tools, system software, middleware and network-centric
operating systems, including Grid-based systems, that orchestrate
unlimited, heterogeneous and dynamic resources.

Workprogramme 2007-2008: 120 M€*

Industrial Commitment

Develop a visionary strategy for Software and Services driven
by a common European Research Agenda where innovation
and business strengths are reinforced.

Expected impact:
• Standardisation, common service platform open standards
• Improve EU competitiveness in S&S
