1. INTENSITY OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION FROM
MOBILE PHONE TOWERS: CASE STUDY OVER COCHIN

The effect of mobile phone radiation on human health is the subject of recent interest and
study, as a result of the enormous increase in mobile phone usage throughout the world.
Mobile phones use electromagnetic radiation in the microwave range. The purpose of this
study is to understand the status of electromagnetic radiation in Cochin Corporation and
create awareness amongst people of the possible health hazards. to avoid it.

OBJECTIVE
The Green region have a radiation intensity of less than -30dBm (SAFE) then the Yellow
region shows in between -30dBm to -15dBm (CAUSION) and the Red region shows
greater than -15dBm (DANGER).

CONCLUSION
Personal (cellular) telecommunications is a rapidly evolving technology that uses
radiofrequency energy or radiation for mobile communication. Currently, wireless
communication devices are used by more than 90 percent of the Indian population.1 Given
this large number of users, if adverse health effects are shown to be associated with cell
phone use, this could potentially be a widespread public health concern. In addition to
continuous radiation from cell towers and cell phones, there is radiation from computers,
laptops, TV &FM towers, microwave ovens, Wi-Fi, etc., which are additive in nature.
Hence stricter radiation norms must be enforced in India. So give a thought, do we really
want future of our nation to be deaf or suffer from many health problems, which could have
been avoided if certain precautionary steps were taken on time.

EXPERIMENT
The outline of our experiment basically consists of surveys at different selected regions and
a study of the biological impact of electromagnetic radiation based on the outcome of
survey. Population density of Cochin corporation is increasing day by day with the
explosion of new ventures are developments in the city. The intellection for our study on
cell phone radiation is because of the following reasons:
• Widespread human exposure.
• Current exposure guidelines are based largely on protection from acute injury from
thermal effects.
• Little is known about potential health effects of long-term exposure to radiofrequency
radiation.
• Sufficient data from human studies may not be available for several years.
An experiment setup was designed in which seeds were grown with exposure to mobile
radiation. The germination characteristics were compared with those of controlled group.
In the first stage, we provide 15 minutes radiation in the morning and evening and
measured the growth on a daily basis. Then we compared the growth of radiated and non-radiated
seeds.
