Correlation bug in pertmaster
1. Issue due to correlating a big number of activities in Pertmaster
(Primavera Risk Analysis)
Issue Description The uncertainty for my project has common cause, it is a financial issue,
so I made correlation for more than 8000 activities which will be
affected by this issue, after I have applied templated quick risk with
correlationand saved the file the size of file increased from 60 MB to
1.7 GB causing hang to the program. Even when I tried to correlate
these activities into groups every group does not increase than 2000
activities I got the same result.
Work around solution I made using risk factors instead of uncertainty,
each risk factor assigned to 2000 activities, the program hang up.
Operating System Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)
OS Version 8.1
Primavera Risk
Analysis version
8.7.0076 (including update Patch file SP8)
Oracle Support
Team
I shared this issue with Oracle SupportTeam and they investigate it and
classify as “Severity 2- significant”.
They replied me “this fix would require a major codechange as the
current algorithm used to model correlation is running out of memory
when running the scenarios in your plans. “
Oracle workaround To create new tasks to represent groups of tasks. So say for example
you have 3000 tasks that represent engineering and you want to
correlate their risk. Create a single task using the earliest start date of
this group of activities for the Start and the latest finish of this group of
activities as Finish. You can then apply risk to this task and correlate to
other tasks if needed.
Just I wanted to share this information with you, Some Risk Analysis Programs don’t include
“correlation” option
But I think that any software has limitation and bugs and it is very necessary for any
professional to identify them and find a workaround.
