It was initially known as “Qiushi Shuyuan” (Qiushi Academy), one of the earliest modern academies of higher learning established in China. Zhejiang University is a comprehensive national university,
founded in 1897. it was initially known as “Qiushi
Shuyuan” (Qiushi Academy), one of the earliest modern
academies of higher learning established in China.
During the Second Sino-Japanese War(1937－1945). Under the
lead of Kechen Chu, Zhejiang University inherit and carry forward
the sprite of Qiushi(Seek the truth), and reputed as "Cambridge of
the East" by Joseph Needham.
