6.
In today's dynamic & competitive
environment,IP rights are key elements needed
to maintain an edge in the market.
With the growing technology competition to
become a high tech country,a revolution in this
field of information technology arrived.
Due to increasing crimes in cyber space ,govt
of india understood the problems of internet
user & for safeguarding the interest of internet
users,this act was made.
WHY?
8. Definition
Semiconductor-It's a material which has
electrical conductivity b/w that of conductor
such as copper & insulator such a glass.
IC'S- also called as chip or microchip ,is a
semiconductor wafer on which thousand of tiny
resistors,capacitors and transistors are
fabricated.
IC layout-also known as IC mask layout or
mask design is the representation in terms of
planar geometric shapes ,which corresponds to
the pattern of metal, oxide or semiconductor
layers that makes up the components of IC.
9. Layout Design
A Logic circuit diagram is drawn to determine the
electronic circuit required for the requested function.
Once the logic circuit diagram is complete, simulations
are performed multiple times to test the circuit’s
operation.

12. NEED PROTECTION
Hardware piracy has reached an unprecedented
scale and fuels serious threats of subversion by
malicious insertions (Trojans).
Copying ,photographing each layer of an IC &
preparing photo masks for its production on the
basis of the photographs obtained is the main
reason for the introduction of legislation for the
protection of layout design.
Reverse Engg. Is one of the main factor.
13. SICLD PROTECTION
The main focus of SICLD Act is to provide for routes and
mechanism for protection of IP in Chip Layout Designs created and
matters related to it .
Reproducing,Importing,Selling,Distributing the IC layout design for
commercial purpose only constituent infringement. Person when
creates another layout design on the basis of scientific evaluation
of a registered layout design shall not be causing any infringement.
Its valid for 10 years.
The infringer is punishable with imprisonment for a term that may
extend to three (3) years or fine which shall not be less than Rs.
50,000/- but which may extend to Rs. 10.0 lakhs or with both.
16. Rights are protected under

17. Who can't apply?
Not original.
Have been commercially exploited in
India(SICLD).
Not inherently distinctive.
Not inherently capable of being distinguishable
from any other registered layout design.
