2. No two people are the same,
so why should a wheelchair
be any different?
Adjusting to
your life
This philosophy and belief, and a real
commitment to making technology work to
solve wheelchair users’ everyday problems,
are what led Henrik Grauslund to found
Qimova.
We believe in a real commitment and a close
relationship with our customers. We listen
carefully to our customers and UK wide
network of carefully selected dealers, to use
their feedback and suggestions to continually
develop and improve our products. This helps
us to understand our users’ different needs
and requirements, allowing us to specialise in
individual solutions for the end user.
We know only too well that technology alone
doesn’t solve everything. If you don’t know
and truly understand the problems you want
to solve, you’ll never find the right solutions.
Qimova manufactures standard and bespoke
wheelchairs, designed to give our clients
unparalleled comfort and relief.
With a unique modular and flexible system,
the chair is built to suit each individual. Using
an extensive series of accessories there is a
chair to suit everyone, from elegant manual
wheelchairs to fully powered motorized
wheelchairs.
We have a library of more than 5000
components available to us in the
construction of our wheelchairs, and this
number grows on a daily basis. This makes
it possible to build a wheelchair customized
to any individual’s needs, and then adjust it
or add specially developed components as a
client’s needs change over time.
Knowing and understanding peoples’ needs is
something you can only do by engaging with
the people you want to help. Which is what
we do in all our daily work with wheelchairs
and their users.
Today we produce and manufacture
wheelchairs for markets all around the world.
We specialize in Motor Neuron conditions,
Spinal cord Injuries, Cerebral Palsy,
Muscular Dystrophy/Atrophy, Stroke, and other
degenerative diseases such as Multiple
Sclerosis and A.L.S. Nothing is impossible for
us, and we are always here to help you in the
best possible way. Together we want to make
any wheelchair user’s life easier and more
comfortable.
Whatever your condition,
Qimova has the answer!

4. “It is like being upgraded from economy
to business Class!” Mr. A
Mr. A’s Qimova Comfort Chair
Mr. A Was admitted to a specialist hospital.
During Mr. A’s stay at the hospital he didn’t
find his current chair particularly comfortable
and was only able to sit in the chair for short
periods of time due to discomfort and
potential pressure issues. Mr. A wanted a
comfortable and durable chair for discharge
from the hospital and then return back to his
home country.
Following a Made2Aid CPD training session for
the hospital Occupational Therapy Team, the
Qimova chair was discussed as a potentially
suitable chair for Mr .A as it could be easily
adapted and customised to suit his exact
needs.
The Assessment: – When assessing Mr. A it was identified that
the chair he was currently using was not the correct seat width
or depth for him. The Qimova chair has adjustable seat width,
depth and height, and it was quickly altered to Mr A’s exact
measurements.
The chair cushion provided gives medium pressure relief, with a
memory foam section below the IT’s to centre the pelvis and
prevent the hips coming forward.
The Qimova chair also features flip-out integral leg rests that
can be elevated and precisely positioned, with adjustable calf
pads, knee pads and footplates. Mr. A’s legs were abducted, so
the hip guides were brought together and moved down to
support his legs and the knee pads were angled-in slightly to
keep his legs in mid-line.
By Made2Aid
Case study When Mr. A’s hips were centred and his lower body positioned
correctly, we adjusted the height of the backrest to ensure that
it gave full trunk support. We then designed a custom-
contoured back cushion for extra support around the hips,
which also featured a memory foam panel down the centre,
offering pressure relief and comfort along the spinal cord. The
thoracic supports on the chair are also adjustable in size,
height, depth and angle. Mr. A has low tone, affecting his
seated stability, therefore lateral.
The Qimova chair features an impressive 45°
of tilt and 165° back recline which proved to
be an essential feature for Mr. A, as he can
now spend longer in his chair. This also
reduces the need for transfers throughout the
day.
The manual chair has an adjustable attendant
handle which makes the chair easy for carers
to handle. Mr. A also has a power base that
can be added to his Qimova comfort chair to
convert it from a manual to a fully powered
chair. This will be used when he is
rehabilitated and ready to drive himself, or for
when his carers want the chair to be power
assisted.
Previously, Mr. A had Ottobock armrests to
keep his arms in an optimum position. Qimova
designed and manufactured bespoke
channelled armrests to support this arm
position. This was achieved by providing
supports to either side of the armrest and
around the back of the elbows, coupled with a
raised section under the palm to slightly
elevate the hands and allow flexion at the
wrist. Support and precise positioning were
essential to improve his alignment.
Finally, Mr. A’s Head was supported using the
multi-arm headrest, which is very effective
when addressing difficult head positioning
issues. By simply loosening the multi-arm and
adjusting the headrest as needed, Mr. A’s head
was well-supported in the desired position.
Another benefit of the multi-arm is that it can
be adjusted easily throughout the day.

The modular construction means that all
seating systems are interchangeable between
Manual and Power base.
Every user can have their own personal seating
system and this system can be placed on a Manual
or a Power base.
If a wheelchair base needs service, the wheelchair user’s
seating system can be placed on a borrowed base and
the wheelchair user can continue their day in their own
seating system, while their own base is being repaired.
All Qimova wheelchairs offer the ability to upgrade from
a Manual wheelchair to a full indoor/outdoor power base
wheelchair for a fraction of the cost.
Ability to change from rear wheel to front
wheel drive or vice versa in minutes.
Every Qimova wheelchair can be changed from either rear

8. “I would just like to extend my thanks to Ashley at Qimova who
recently came to my house in Derby to demonstrate and assess me for a
wheelchair. The demonstration was not only very thorough, explaining all
the functions, I was able to try the chair and move it around my home.
Nothing was hurried and all questions were clearly and simply answered.
The features, comfort and seat measuring/fitting were tailored to my
needs. I’m very impressed with this friendly professional and efficient
company, I would highly recommend them.”
“The versatility of Meg’s new chair has opened the door to a life
that everyone takes for granted. Qimova’s knowledge parallels
their passion for top rate person centred care.”

13. Accessories
Seat cushion
The Qimova Pressure Relief Cushion
absorbs the pressure on the coccyx
and vertebral column in centrally
placed soft foam. Surrounding high
elastic cold foam supports the
remaining weight of the body. This
construction prevents the pelvis from
sliding forward thereby ensuring an
anatomically correct sitting position.
The air channel in the soft foam aids
ventilation and prevents the build up
of heat and humidity.
The cushions are available in four
different shapes and different sizes:
Flat – when there is no need for extra
support around the thighs and legs.
The position of the drop shaped soft
foam can be altered as needed by
indication the distance from the
front of the seat to the start of
the soft foam.
Wedges – wedge on each side of the
seat to ensure a comfortable sitting
position. The seat cushions include the
option to place the wedges as needed
and in either thin or height wedges.
Anti-thrust – these cushions have
an elevation, or bump, in the front of
the cushion and offers a restraint-
free option for different positioning
problems associated with forward
thrust and sacral sitting. Anti-thrust
cushions are used for more severe
forward-sliding issues than the
wedge cushion.
Backrest cushion
Qimova produces backrests in a wide
variety of different shapes and sizes.
They are available with or without
a soft centre and with or without
supporting wedges. The cushion is
made from moulded cold foam, which
keeps its shape for many years.
Side support can be built-in and the
backrest can include an inflatable
lumber support to ensure a correct
sitting postion. The width of the
backrest at the height of the user’s
shoulders is narrow enough to allow
users to freely move their arms.
The cushions are available in two
different shapes and sizes. Both
shapes can be provided with a soft
centre for extra protection of the
spinal column:
Flat – is available in different depths.
Wedges – wedge on each side of the
back to ensure a comfortable sitting
position. The back rest cushions
include the option to place the wedges
as needed and in either thin or height
wedges.
Lumber support
Having a good lumber support is
paramount for users spending many
hours in a wheelchair. Qimova
lumber support is attached between
the backrest cushion and backrest
board and can be adjusted in any
direction at any time making sure
that you will always have the correct
support where needed.
Thoracic support
If a user has a tendency to lean
towards one side when sitting,
there may be danger of scoliosis
development. Using a lateral thoracic
support can help stabilize the trunk
and maintain a midline position.
The Qimova thoracic support is
collapsible to make it easy to enter
and exit the chair.
Hipguide
Hip guides are a very important
accessories in any wheelchair for
managing a correct posture, to help
align and keep your pelvis in a correct
position. Qimova hip guides are fully
adjustable in height-angle and depth
as well as cushion sizes.
Headrest
Qimova produces different types of
headrests.
There are three different brackets
available:
Combi-arm – the bracket is ideal when
only the height and angle needs to be
adjusted.
Multi-arm, lock bracket – is useful in
difficult positioning situations. Simply
loosen the handle and adjust the
headrest as needed. Then turn the
handle back again to lock the
headrest positon.
Pommel front
Also known as medical knee supports
or abductors. Use of a pommel can
promote good positioning of the knee
and reduce hip stress. The angle of the
Qimova pommel can be adjusted and
the pommel can also be positioned
sideways. When not in use, it can be
removed from the chair.
Multi-arm, friction bracket – is useful
in difficult positioning. Simply loosen
the knob and adjust the headrest as
needed. Then turn the knob back again
to lock the headrest into position. The
bracket can be adjusted on multiple
planes to allow for optimal support
Headrest cushion
All cushions are made in cold foam
and the shapes are: Flat, Roll, Shallow
double sided, Deep headrest cushion,
Deep left hand side headrest cushion,
Deep right hand side headrest cushion.
There are six different headrest
cushions available:
Flat cushion – Our basic flat cushion
for use in transportation.
Roll cushion – The Roll Profile Cushion
provides comfortable support for the
base (Occipital bone) of the head.
Shallow double sided cushion – Two
small side supports offer extra support
for the user who needs help keeping
their head aligned whilst seated.
Deep headrest cushion – This cushion
supports and cradles the head
and neck, promoting correct spine
alignment. It is specifically designed
for users with little control over head
movement. It offers excellent lateral
support.
Deep left or right hand side headrest
cushion – This cushion is useful in
difficult positioning situations. It
allows the user to lean the head
against the deep side of the cushion,
and therefore offers excellent lateral
support.
Armrest
The height of the armrest can
be adjusted to meet almost any
configuration and the armrest’s
horizontal angle can be altered to
accommodate special needs.
24 25
14. Calf support
Provides support for the lower leg.
The bracket is adjustable in many
ways, it can be shifted both backwards
and forwards, and it can be rotated to
match specific needs in height, depth
and length. The calfpad cushions are
available in a wide variety of sizes and
shapes. All cushions are made in high
density foam with a memory foam
topper. The shapes area, flat, with inner
edge, with outer edge and with double-
edge (both inner and outer edge).
Footplates
Plastic or Metal. Plastic footplates are
in three different sizes: small, medium
and large. Metal footplates are in small
and medium.
The adjustment tube is available in
three lengths and all of them are
steplessly adjustable.
All in one footboard – Made from light
steel and designed for any shape and
size of feet allowing better positioning
and alignment.
Angle Huggers
The hugger is made to encourage
foot stability and alignment. The hook
and loop fastening system provides a
soft but effective securing method to
ensure stability.
Kneepads
Our soft knee pads help to gently stop
the legs from splaying outwards and
keep the body in alignment.
Belts Harnesses
The Qimova range of belts and
harnesses includes: 2 and 4-point
pelvic belts, shoulder harnesses, trunk
supports with or without zip among
others. They all come in a range of
sizes with soft neoprene padded areas
for maximum comfort. They are all
machine washable.
Leg rests
All our wheelchairs can be fitted with
either manually operated or electrically
operated leg rests. The legrests swing
away to allow the user easy entry and
exit in and out of the chair.
Centre mounted leg rest
Has infinite adjustment starting at 90
degrees and articulating to 45 degrees
with height and depth adjustment
including a dynamic foot board when
in extension.
Negative angle leg rest
Has infinite adjustment starting at
negative 45 degrees and articulating
to vertical with height and depth
adjustment. Can be mounted with
either separate adjustable foot plates
or a single wooden foot board.
Armpads
Qimova armpads are made in high
density foam.
The armpads are available in four
different shapes and can be made in
different sizes:
Flat – The armrest cushion is slightly
rounded on the edges to prevent the
arm from falling out. Can be made to
measurement.
Inner-edge armpad – this cushion is
with a flexible edge for comfort.
Outer-edge armpad – this cushion is
with a flexible edge for comfort.
Inner and outer-edge armpad – this
double-edged cushioning to provide
more fixation of the arm.
Spiker board
Our spiker board is a complete and
full extension to the seat cushion
that allows the user to have their
legs supported whilst in a horizontal
position. This is a very good option for
users who have had major surgery on
their lower limbs and need to keep
them in a fixed and
supportive position.
Pushing handle
All Qimova Wheelchairs have pushing
handles for carers to manually push
the wheelchair.
There are three different pushing
handles available:
Foldable – the handle can be adjusted
in different heights.
Pushbar – fixed handle, mainly used
for power chairs.
Rotating, width height adjustable -
The handles can be easily adjusted by
loosening the lever next to the pushing
handles. The pushing handle can also
be turned all the way to the front of
the wheelchair, making it possible for
carers to push the wheelchair, while it
is in a horizontal position. Adjustments
to the turning angle on the pushing
handle can be made individually.
Swing arm for joystick
The wheelchair joystick can be
equipped with a swing arm. This
makes it possible to move the
wheelchair close to items such as
tables without the joystick being
in the way.
Frame colours
The colour of the frame can be made
in six different colours.
Fabrics
All Qimova cushions are upholstered
with high quality fabrics. The fabrics
allow the skin to breath and are fire
tested to meet EN 1021-1/2 standard.
The covers are machine washable at
40-60 degrees.
Joysticks
The DX2 Master Remote (REM550) is a
stylish high-end joystick remote with
a large, clear, full colour LCD screen. It
provides easy control and a high level
of functionality to a wide variety of
users.
The DX Master Remote (G90) is a high-
end joystick remote easily operated by
a wide variety of users. Smaller than
REM550.
As an attendant controlled only
wheelchair, the joystick, G90, is most
conveniently placed near the pushbar.
It is fully adjustable sidewise and in
height, depth, and angle.
Dual control
Joystick remote that enables an
attendant to drive the chair instead
of the user. The attendant control
unit may be used in addition to a
secondary remote and master remote
all on the same system.
Amputee board
Our Amputee board is a part extension
to our seat cushion and as with all
our accessories is fully adjustable in
height depth and angle. We have a
large variation of high density foam
cushioning with a memory foam
topper to ensure our clients comfort
and support at all times.

15. “Qimova have been excellent with their service right from our
initial contact, not only did they offer to come to us to show us
their wheelchair and assess my mother, they offered us a try
before you buy policy. My mother had been so uncomfortable in a
standard wheelchair but from the first time she sat in the Qimova
wheelchair it was immediately apparent that both her posture
and comfort had improved significantly. The after sales service is
second to none with any enquiry dealt with straight away.”

Biography
Damian was born in Cardiff in May 1982 and
was born in perfect health. Medical negligence
caused an incubator to fail, causing Damian to
suffer two consecutive haemorrhages after
being put back into the incubator that had
failed. This left Damian with quadriplegic
cerebral palsy, scoliosis and other complex
conditions. Damian’s childhood was difficult
and he was brought up in an abusive
environment and eventually had to be moved
from his home along with his mother and
younger brother for his own safety.
Despite these twin drawbacks Damian was
determined to achieve an education. He was
told that this would be impossible due to his
Cerebral Palsy and extreme dyslexia. In fact,
he was told that his future rested in some
anonymous day centre. Damian had other
plans and fought against this attitude and not
only achieved a BA Honours in Care
Management, but also an MSC in Paediatrics
graduating with first class honours. He has
been published both in medical journals and
by the BBC and has often worked as a trusted
source in giving opinions on both political and
care matters.
Ambassador
The reason that Damian has agreed to become
an ambassador and representative for Qimova
in Wales is twofold.
Firstly, the product provides an excellent
postural solution providing excellent
outcomes for both children and adults with
complex seating conditions.
It allows the user to explore their environment
in comfort and as a modular system it allows
for a more personalized and dynamic
prescription to be created for the user. The
huge amount of adjustment and functionality
means that the chair really does evolve over
time with the client. The chairs are able to
give a full 165-degree backrest recline and
45-degree of tilt in space, helping to relieve
pressure on the spine and coccyx in situations
where a person needs to use the chair for
prolonged periods of time. The Qimova range
of wheelchairs can also be used as a changing
platform in the absence of suitable changing
facilities, removing anxiety for the carers and
individual.
Work
Damian has run for public office and is a
strong believer in Noland’s Seven Principles of
Public Life and strives to live by them. Damian
began work in the voluntary sector, working as
a patient advisor for the wheelchair and
Rehabilitation Service and the NHS in 2006.
He also began his first company, a successful
networking business. He now works for the
Care Council for Wales and has been
instrumental in the creation, amendment and
implementation of several important care laws
that will change the future for both carers and
service users all over Wales. He is also working
on the study curriculum for carers in Wales to
ensure a vital and appropriate training of our
future care work force.
Damian is also Managing Director of his own
consultancy and works widely in the
promotion and brokerage of disability
software, hardware and services both in the
UK and internationally. He has lectured at all
four Royal Colleges in the UK and for many
other colleges on disability awareness,
responsibility and Paediatric care for sufferers
with Cerebral Palsy.
Damian is currently facilitating at Academy
Wales the high level Civil Service Summer
School and is working on Several courses
designed to improve care for children with
disabilities across a wide range of care
services both private and public.
Secondly, apart from being very impressed
with the whole product range It is not very
often that you come across a company with a
genuine empathy and desire to help and
support their customer base. They take their
time in understanding each person’s unique
often complex needs and requirements and
work tirelessly to achieve a solution and
positive outcome!
