Editor's Notes
Thanks to Ricardo Uceda, Christopher Acosta, staff of IPYS, and everyone who has contributed to COLPIN. Asked to talk about IJ around the world. Going to do that – rapid tour around the world. Lots going on, will present a lot of info. We have so many challenges – lack of resources, changing financial models, new technology, repressive gov’ts, compromised owners, legal harassment, violent threats to our safety and sources, changing financial model, Lack of access, lack of public records, Lack of standards, Lack of training Easy to get discouraged, but there is great hope, great activity, great journalism being done. You are not alone. Never before have we had so much opportunity – we have more inv journs doing more invs than anytime in the history of journalism – and they are doing it with more powerful technology than they have ever had before. Lowell: never any good old days – always been a struggle. But global transformation going on, and IJ today increasingly recognized and embraced today for extraordinary contribution it makes to public accountability, transparency, democracy.

Xi Jinping is the incoming leader of China, who will be the helmsman of the country for the next 10 years. Bloomberg looked at the wealth owned by Xi and his family members, using documents from public records in Hong Kong and mainland China, records of publicly traded companies, partnerships, real estate. Assets total at least $376 million. This was a two-month investigation that included a team of reporters. The day after the story appeared online, China's censors blocked Bloomberg.com and Business Week and as of today, more than two months later, they are still blocked.
