Reg Kit 4 What Do We Believe About Parents
1. What we Believe about Parents
Parents are important in the lives of your children at HEART
Home education can be sacrificial and rewarding at the same time. Below are some questions we ask ourselves every
year:
Am I ready to “count the cost” and disciple my children for this school year?
Do we still agree together (you and your spouse) that this is what God would have us do?
Are there feelings of emotional stress or strain between my child and I that have not been resolved?
Are my expectations, plans and goals realistic?
Am I willing to submit to the personal sacrifices and the discipline demanded by a home study program?
These are tough questions and something to pray through as you plan for the next year.
Parents are empowered to integrate, not be usurped in your authority, with your children at HEART
We believe that the education of the student is entirely the parent or guardian’s responsibility. We would like to
partner with you, not replace you, in educating your child.
Parents, you will be spending 4 days at home teaching your children and helping them prepare to take advantage
of participation in Friday classes.
All tests are taken and graded at home and records are kept in your student’s class binder, for easy access on Fridays.
Since your children need your guidance, instruction and support, you need to have all teacher and student manuals for
each class in which your student registers.
We believe you CAN educate your children through the junior high and high school years, and we encourage you to
do so. We specialize in helping you in that area through specific training throughout the year;
o How to have a successful year at HEART Academy in August,
o Homeschooling through High School Planning in February, and
o College Planning in May.
We believe that intentionally attending classes with your children will help create INTEGRATION and not
ISOLATION. We strongly encourage you to do so, whenever possible.
Weekly emails, designed to support you in ENGAGING with your children, are sent every Monday morning by the
mentor-teachers, no later than 10 am. These e-mails provide the information you need to keep your children account
able for the class assignments of the week. It is highly recommended that the both you and your student read these
emails and print out copies so you can refer to them together during the week. If your child is going to be late with an
assignment or you are waiving the assignment, please let the teacher know by sending them a courtesy email.
A mentor-created semester evaluation is just one part of your OVERALL assessment of your student's
accomplishments in class. No grades are given at HEART, because we feel that an hour and fifteen minutes, once a
week, is not enough time to accurately evaluate your student's overall progress.

2. Parents can ask for extra accountability at HEART
HEART Academy believes in empowering parents to successfully educate your students in the upper grades. These
enrichment classes do just that, enrich your teaching time at home and keep the control of your children’s education in
your hands. In light of this philosophy, we assume that you are checking your student's work every week.
If you feel you need additional help with accountability for your child, the teacher might be willing to do so, for an
additional charge of $15.00 per month. This arrangement will need to be set up on a case-by-case basis. This fee will
include extra communication regarding assignments and performance.
Parents are important volunteers at HEART
We believe families are the heart of our community so we are a parent-participation community. (That’s what “co-op”
means.) In this model, we all help because, like members of one body, we are all NECESSARY to keep the body
functioning smoothly.
We can serve each other by:
keeping order,
caring for the facility God has given us to use,
maintaining a good witness in the neighborhood,
helping the students to be accountable for behaving responsibly and respectfully.
We ask that all families come together and serve each other at least 80 minutes a month – at the same time every month.
You may choose:
setting up for classes every other week for 30 minutes each,
cleaning up every other week for 30 minutes each,
supervising study hall for 80 minutes once a month,
lunch monitoring at 40 minutes twice a month.
Parents can integrate as they assist in the classroom at HEART
As mentioned above, intentionally attending classes with your children helps create INTEGRATION with - not
ISOLATION from - your children, especially during those important teen years. One excellent way to accomplish this is
by becoming a Teacher's Assistant (TA). Many of the enrichment classes need TAs.
Parents will get a price-break of up to 40% off tuition for classes in which you assist through the end of the two
semesters. The lead teacher might need you to evaluate papers, keep attendance or other records, observe students, create
the weekly e-mail for review, even teach if the teacher is sick or absent. You might be administrative and/or teach some
of the material if called upon. Every class has different needs - you can work this out with the lead teacher. TAs commit
to attend the class they support every Friday for 16 or 32 weeks.

3. Parents are crucial in prayer at HEART
HEART Academy will be hosting a prayer meeting every Friday morning from 8:15-8:45 am. This time is meant for
students, teachers, and parents praying together.
Also, the Moms in Touch prayer group, geared to more confidential prayer requests from Heart families and
teachers, prays together every Friday.
