2. a. Executive Summary
Eat and Go is a group of business selling pizzas by dominos and pizza
hut and ikea curry puffs for charity established by the project manager
Clement Chen, followed by the committee Carlson Ko, Harwinder Singh
and Daniel Chow. This business charity drive is held from 19th to 23rd
January from 12pm-5pm and the location of our booth is outside
Student Life center, Taylor’s Lakeside University. Support for the
funding’s of this business is funded by Dr. Goh Dental clinic and Mr
Chow by sponsoring us RM 500 respectively to start this Business. All
the proceeds and profit (100%) of this business will go to the Malaysian
Red Crescent for the east coast flood relief fund.
This report describes the findings of the charity drive by our team. The
purpose of this report is to 1) Describe and analyse the theories of
human resources management, marketing, production and finance and
their applications 2) Explain the ethical and social responsibility issues
faced by businesses 3) Undertake leadership roles and make quality
decisions/judgments in the context of simulated business environments
3. b. Objectives
a) We have chosen the Malaysian Red Crescent as our main charity
organization because it is a non-profit organization dedicated to
humanitarian acts and services and public goods by serving people
through first aid services and humanitarian programs for the needy and
helpless. One example being the recent east coast flood relief where
victims need help for daily necessities.
b) Targeted donation amount: RM 600
Targeted sales amount: RM 1200
Targeted sponsorship amount: RM 600
c. Target Market
a) Our customers are mostly local students with a few being young working
adults and the lecturers themselves. Most of them are people who are “on
the go” and need something fast to fill their hunger especially when they
are studying in a group or moving from one place to another. For example,
people walking through the Student Life Centre in Taylors are mostly
students travelling to or from classes to get food. Another example is
Students in Sunway University where students gather in groups to study.
b) Students need something fast and tasty, also the branding do effect the
students choice and preference for choice of food. For example, Dominos
pizza and Ikea curry puffs are famous for being delicious and many
demand for it.
4. c) The spending power of students are mostly low cost to mid- range raging
from RM 1-RM 10. They want something at a reasonable cost whereas
some are on tight budget and are less likely to spend on charity drives.
d. Competition Analysis
a) Our competitors are the stalls beside and around us outside the Student
Life Center. Mainly those who are also selling food at a reasonable price.
b) Our competitors are selling foods raging from nasi lemak, fruit kebabs, fish
balls, drinks, juices, fruits and hot dogs at a similar price range from RM 1-
RM 10
c) Most of our competitor’s strengths are the foods/ products being produced
by themselves. This can help them save a lot of cost and reduce other
costs such as labor charges and tax. Besides that, their vulnerabilities are
the quality control and consistency in their production of food eg: hygiene,
the demands are not met, not all the food taste the same etc. Besides
that, they also use strategies such as 2 items for a cheaper price or buy 1
free 1 and also by approaching customers first
d) Customers opt to buy from them because it is cheaper and is produced
fresh on the spot eg. Fruit juices. Besides that, the choice of food do effect
the customers’ choice for instance, customers prefer healthier food and
drinks made fresh. Also, the attractive prices such as RM 5 for 5 fish balls
makes it a reasonable food to buy and buy 1 free 1 tactics also attract
customers. Furthermore, with the help f the social media such as
5. facebook page and instagram also increase awareness of customers
about what are they selling, prices etc…
e. Product and Packaging
Products
a) We are selling pizzas and curry puffs. Namely Dominos personal pizzas,
Pizza hut personal pizzas and ikea curry puffs.
b) The products that we are selling, Domino’s pizza, pizza hut and Ikea curry
puffs products have a strong branding not only locally but also
internationally which makes customers more eager to buy these products
because they have been in the F&B market long enough. They are a
famous choice of fast food known for their good taste.
Packaging
a) The pizza’s that we’re selling are already packed by the vendors in a
box with their branding whereas the curry puffs are packed into pairs in
a white paper bag..
b) Yes, the packaging is kept simple and is easy to carry around and
throw away. Besides that, it will keep the food fresh and delicious.
f. Pricing
a) The cost for our product’s unit selling price:
1. RM 10 for a personal pizza
2. RM 4 for 2 curry puffs
6. b) The cost for our product’s unit cost price:
1. RM 5 for a personal pizza
2. RM 2 for 2 curry puffs
c) Our products are popular and attractive because of their famous branding
eg. Domino’s pizza are available nationwide and is well known
d) Our strategies is to set the pricing at a reasonable price which is RM 10
for a box of pizza and RM 4 for a pair of curry puffs. Besides that, when
we have difficulty selling them is to go to a different location to push on the
sales eg. Sunway University, SS15 Subang Jaya, Taylors college and Inti
college. If we are selling faster then we increase the amount(stock) for the
following day.
g. Promotion Strategies
a) Since our cause was to raise funds for charity, we decided to come up with a
main marketing message which says “EAT & GO”.
b) The 2 main tools for promoting our product was by making computer-
produced posters and the promotion was also done through Facebook.
c) - We had chosen Facebook to be one of our main tools for promoting is
because it is the most visited website on the internet. Everyone including
friends and relatives use this website. Advertising on Facebook is also
inexpensive.
- Promoting our product by making posters is also very important because it
offers an effective and inexpensive way to get a message out. Since
posters include mainly text or images, it can help customers easily to
understand about the products that you provide.
9. Our Booth:
h. The Sponsors
a) The people we approached for sponsorship was from either our parents or from a
company.
b) We target these sponsors because we know them personally and we know that they
will help us to raise funds for the certain cause.
c) We also approached our customers by sending letters, by telephone calls and
through e-mails.
i. Distribution
a) We got our products to the sales location by our own personal transport. Every
morning we would go collect the products which was the curry puffs that were from
IKEA and the pizzas were from pizza hut & dominos. The products were delivered
mainly to Taylor’s Lakeside Campus and the rest were sent to other campuses.
10. b) To deliver the products it took around 15 minutes and customers didn’t really had to
wait because there were other sellers.
c) We can effectively get 30- 40 customers a day depending on the time of the day.
j. Green Measures
a) Our products are made in an environmentally- conscious manner and they are not
hazardous because we were selling food.
b) The products that we were selling are in cardboard box and in a paper bag.
Therefore, this package materials could be recycled.
c) There was never any waste because when people bought the products they took it
away.
d) Some measures were taken to reduce the consumption of resources such as
electricity and paper. Electricity was only used at the times when we needed them. A
amount of paper was used because we only had to use it as posters and the same
posters were used all week long.
