24. Appendix (Initial Mail) What is this Research about? I believe that in societies like Egypt, a lot of who we are and how we think is defined by the social order that we have been living in. By time, we internalize these socially constructed views of "who we are", "who is the other" and "how the world operates". We loose our freedom of being to a social order that expects us to behave in a certain way. As we try to grow, we struggle to break free from such oppression, but this is so difficult as these social views have became our very own beliefs. My research question is - as a coach - how to develop a model that helps people reflect on their own belief systems, review them, affirm or change them to be more open, inclusive, adaptable and real. How to help people grow past the limitations of the social order? How to help every individual find his/her full potential as a human being, without the labels and the distortions imposed by the society? So what are we going to do? In the next 6 months, we will explore together a number of issues, approaches and methods of personal development. We will do some of this work in online sessions, and some of it in one to one coaching, individually or in small groups from within yourselves. Some of you are also working on the development of others, and might prefer to try some ideas with them. I'm sure you will enjoy all the activities, and you will find benefit in them, personally and professionally. The most important part in all this is your feedback. I will ask for your feedback in the middle and the end of the programme, and we will think together about how to make the approach better. in 2012, I am hoping to apply it in a more formal way with around 15 individuals, and use their feedback to enhance it even more. The outcome will obviously be a doctoral thesis, but more importantly, it's the shared knowledge and experience we would have lived as a group.
