Vampires
Vampires, what are they? For a lot of people they are just scary
and pale monsters but are they just monsters or just attractive or
are they human beings? They are a combination of both; they
are scary when they kill with cold blood after they are done
with the victim but they look and have human characteristics.
The general idea of the attractiveness of vampires portrays in
nearly all of the vampire movies, in either male or female
vampires. In the early days movie’s females where the main
focus of attractiveness as showed in Dracula, while nowadays
the main focus of attractiveness is the male as showed in
“Interview with the vampire”. That shows that the general idea
toward vampires have changed over the time. Also in the earlier
vampire movies male vampires are more than the female ones.
Vampires differ from each other they behave differently; some
of them have more human characteristics then the other.
Vampires are attractive and that is commonly known all around
the world Dracula, Brad Pitt and Robert Pattinson are all
attractive in the movies.
Why are they attractive? They have a white pale skin, strong
physique, are very fast and stronger than normal which makes
them a desire for ladies, which is why their victims are attracted
to them. Vampires are indeed considered plain evil because of
their mass killing of people in search for blood. In her article
Kathleen Rout, Who Do You Love? Anne Rice's Vampires And
Their Moral Transition says “as described in the interview and
as seen in the vampire Lestat. He kills any and all types of
people, and as a generous act he puts the poor out if their
misery.” Rout argument is about why is Lestat killing and it is
shown in the movie that he is killing based on a combination of
fun and survival instinct, for him to survive he have to kill
because killing means earing the only thing he can consume
blood. But also he sometimes enjoy his killing a bit too much,
he rapes and sometimes tortures his victims. When we were kids
we had a rush breaking the rules or doing wrong things, like
stealing a can of Coke or candy. So in another meaning,
vampires get the same rush when they kill, either for fun or for
their need for drinking blood. When they kill and rape people
watching enjoy but when a real killer kills, people flip and start
wondering why he did all of these bad things. And in this we
see the morality behind vampires and what social beliefs people
have towards them, they believe that vampires have their
justification to kill because they are in need for blood but when
a serial killer kill who is insane and have crazy claims about
why he is killing, people aren’t acceptable of his reasons
(Rout).
According to Kerry Kutzuba in her article “Lestat, C'est Moi":
Anne Rice's Revelation of Self rough e Vampire Chronicles.
“Rice's vampires are often selected for their physical
attractiveness, which is magnified by the "Dark Gift," the gift
of immortality that is also known by disenchanted ancients as
the "Dark Trick" (The Vampire Lestat 301). Vampires have an
attractiveness and devious appearance to them that’s why they
are sometimes referred to as scary. In the movie “interview with
the vampire” Tom Cruise acted as (Lestat) and was very devious
and cunning he killed a lot of people by luring them and flirting
with them by using his great looks and he would eventually kill
them. On the other hand Louis was the opposite he isn’t scary
and didn’t like killing people and he fed on rats in a faze in the
movie, and that make us think about Edward Cullen who also
isn’t scary or devious at all but he is smart and charming, he
also fed on animals like dears and rats. That shows that the
general view of vampires has changed during the years at first
vampires movies targeted a bigger audience a mature type of
audience, but now the vampires movies targets teens by letting
the vampire get sort of soft and have more affection so that
teenagers would relate to them. Perhaps teens relate to Edward
Cullen because he is changed to a vampire as teenager and also
that he has more human traits than monsters or vampire’s traits,
he isn’t a scary or a cold-blooded killer (Rout).
The look toward the relation with Vampires has changed
overtime in the past if you had sex with a vampire then you will
get killed by him after the vampire have sex with you but
nowadays if you love a vampire you are endangered to die, for
example in the movie “interview with the vampire” Tom Cruise
acted as (Lestat) and was very devious and cunning he killed
every girl that he slept with and that referred to the famous
equation of vampires that sex is death. But in the twilight movie
Kristen Stewart acted as (Bella Swan) and Robert Pattinson
acted as (Edward Cullen) are in love and they are always
endangered, before she met him she had a normal life with
normal friends. But after she met him he changed her life, she
became a desire to evil vampires that knows Edward Cullen’s
family, and they try to kill her and that’s in the first film. In the
last film she get pregnant and has a daughter and giving birth
almost kills her. That shows the huge difference between the
concepts of the two films; twilight took a huge leap in changing
the concept of a vampire movie, and many believe in this idea
but I believe that they have changed it to the worse before you
can consider vampires to be monsters because they were scary
and devious and they were cold blooded killers but now these
vampires aren’t similar to the vampires before. Vampires
movies nowadays targets teen viewers but in the past the scenes
and also the target of viewers were adults, because a lot of the
scenes that are shown in the movie are sex scenes and also
vicious blood and biting senses that can’t be shown to kids.
Which is a fact, vampire’s movie was Rated R movies whereas
twilight is PG13. That transaction in ratings is to make the
movie appeal to the younger audience. But why did the writers
make this transaction. They changed the way people look
toward vampires because, before they acted like animals just
going on killing sprees and eating animals but vampires
nowadays are more humane you can’t tell the difference by the
way they act or behave in front of humans. (Kutzuba).
Vampires aren’t just about eating, killing or drinking human’s
blood but they have a significant similarity to humans.
Vampires are stereotyped they are believed to be different from
humans but they have a lot of humane characteristics they sleep,
go out and they party as we seen in the two movies “Twilight”
and “interview with a vampire” what I mean is that they live a
sort of a normal life, but there are differences between them and
humans, they sleep in coffins, cant go out in the sun they just
go out in the night.
Finally vampires are changed humans they have the same
appearance features but the differ in the physical part. Vampires
have changed from the beginning until now, they used to be
these monsters that wear all black, never go out in the sun and
they have no friends and just kill for fun. But nowadays
vampires are more “civilized” they don’t just kill for fun and
also they have friends and live a normal live they go to school
have jobs they actually can go out in the sun, and that is a huge
difference between them.

INSTRUCTOR GUIDANCE EXAMPLE: Week Five Discussion
Factoring
Since there are several different types of factoring problems
assigned from pages 345-
346, four types will be demonstrated here to offer a selection,
even though individual
students will only be working two from these pages.
#73. x
3
– 2x
2
– 9x + 18 Four terms means start with grouping
x
2
(x – 2) – 9(x – 2) The common factor for each group is (x – 2)
(x – 2)(x
2
– 9) Notice the difference of squares in second group
(x – 2)(x – 3)(x -+ 3) Now it is completely factored.
#81. 6w
2
– 12w – 18 Every term has a GCF of 6
6(w
2
– 2w – 3) Common factor is removed, now have a trinomial
Need two numbers that add to -2 but multiply to -3
Try with -3 and +1
6(w – 3)(w + 1) This works, check by multiplying it back
together
#97. 8vw
2
+ 32vw + 32v Every term has a GCF of 8v
8v(w
2
+ 4w + 4) The trinomial is in the form of a perfect square
8v(w + 2)(w + 2) Showing the squared binomial
8v(w + 2)
2
Writing the square appropriately
#103. -3y
3
+ 6y
2
– 3y Every term has a GCF of -3y
-3y(y
2
– 2y + 1) Another perfect square trinomial
-3y(y – 1)(y – 1) Showing the squared binomial
-3y(y – 1)
2
Writing the square appropriately
Here are two examples of problems similar to those assigned
from page 353.
5b
2
– 13b + 6 a = 5 and c = 6, so ac = 5(6) = 30. The factor pairs
of 30
are 1, 30 2, 15 3, 10 5,6
-3(-10)=30 while -3+(-10)= -13 so replace -13b by -
3b and -10b
5b
2
– 3b – 10b + 6 Now factor by grouping.
b(5b – 3) – 2(5b – 3) The common binomial factor is (5b – 3).
(5b – 3)( b – 2) Check by multiplying it back together.
3x
2
+ x – 14 a = 3 and c = -14, so ac =3(-14)= -42. The factor
pairs of – 42 are
1, -42 -1, 42 3, -14 -3, 14
2, -21 -2, 21 6, -7 -6, 7
We see that -6(7) = -42 while -6 + 7 = 1 so replace x with -6x +
7x.
3x
2
– 6x + 7x – 14 Factor by grouping.
3x(x – 2) + 7(x – 2) The common binomial factor is (x – 2).
(x – 2)(3x + 7) Check by multiplying it back together.

  • 1. [Type text] [Type text] [Type text] 1 Hamadah Jamal Hamadah 113B Professor Eric Dinsmore 20 April 2016 Vampires Vampires, what are they? For a lot of people they are just scary and pale monsters but are they just monsters or just attractive or are they human beings? They are a combination of both; they are scary when they kill with cold blood after they are done with the victim but they look and have human characteristics. The general idea of the attractiveness of vampires portrays in nearly all of the vampire movies, in either male or female vampires. In the early days movie’s females where the main focus of attractiveness as showed in Dracula, while nowadays the main focus of attractiveness is the male as showed in “Interview with the vampire”. That shows that the general idea toward vampires have changed over the time. Also in the earlier vampire movies male vampires are more than the female ones. Vampires differ from each other they behave differently; some of them have more human characteristics then the other. Vampires are attractive and that is commonly known all around the world Dracula, Brad Pitt and Robert Pattinson are all attractive in the movies. Why are they attractive? They have a white pale skin, strong physique, are very fast and stronger than normal which makes them a desire for ladies, which is why their victims are attracted
  • 2. to them. Vampires are indeed considered plain evil because of their mass killing of people in search for blood. In her article Kathleen Rout, Who Do You Love? Anne Rice's Vampires And Their Moral Transition says “as described in the interview and as seen in the vampire Lestat. He kills any and all types of people, and as a generous act he puts the poor out if their misery.” Rout argument is about why is Lestat killing and it is shown in the movie that he is killing based on a combination of fun and survival instinct, for him to survive he have to kill because killing means earing the only thing he can consume blood. But also he sometimes enjoy his killing a bit too much, he rapes and sometimes tortures his victims. When we were kids we had a rush breaking the rules or doing wrong things, like stealing a can of Coke or candy. So in another meaning, vampires get the same rush when they kill, either for fun or for their need for drinking blood. When they kill and rape people watching enjoy but when a real killer kills, people flip and start wondering why he did all of these bad things. And in this we see the morality behind vampires and what social beliefs people have towards them, they believe that vampires have their justification to kill because they are in need for blood but when a serial killer kill who is insane and have crazy claims about why he is killing, people aren’t acceptable of his reasons (Rout). According to Kerry Kutzuba in her article “Lestat, C'est Moi": Anne Rice's Revelation of Self rough e Vampire Chronicles. “Rice's vampires are often selected for their physical attractiveness, which is magnified by the "Dark Gift," the gift of immortality that is also known by disenchanted ancients as the "Dark Trick" (The Vampire Lestat 301). Vampires have an attractiveness and devious appearance to them that’s why they are sometimes referred to as scary. In the movie “interview with the vampire” Tom Cruise acted as (Lestat) and was very devious and cunning he killed a lot of people by luring them and flirting with them by using his great looks and he would eventually kill
  • 3. them. On the other hand Louis was the opposite he isn’t scary and didn’t like killing people and he fed on rats in a faze in the movie, and that make us think about Edward Cullen who also isn’t scary or devious at all but he is smart and charming, he also fed on animals like dears and rats. That shows that the general view of vampires has changed during the years at first vampires movies targeted a bigger audience a mature type of audience, but now the vampires movies targets teens by letting the vampire get sort of soft and have more affection so that teenagers would relate to them. Perhaps teens relate to Edward Cullen because he is changed to a vampire as teenager and also that he has more human traits than monsters or vampire’s traits, he isn’t a scary or a cold-blooded killer (Rout). The look toward the relation with Vampires has changed overtime in the past if you had sex with a vampire then you will get killed by him after the vampire have sex with you but nowadays if you love a vampire you are endangered to die, for example in the movie “interview with the vampire” Tom Cruise acted as (Lestat) and was very devious and cunning he killed every girl that he slept with and that referred to the famous equation of vampires that sex is death. But in the twilight movie Kristen Stewart acted as (Bella Swan) and Robert Pattinson acted as (Edward Cullen) are in love and they are always endangered, before she met him she had a normal life with normal friends. But after she met him he changed her life, she became a desire to evil vampires that knows Edward Cullen’s family, and they try to kill her and that’s in the first film. In the last film she get pregnant and has a daughter and giving birth almost kills her. That shows the huge difference between the concepts of the two films; twilight took a huge leap in changing the concept of a vampire movie, and many believe in this idea but I believe that they have changed it to the worse before you can consider vampires to be monsters because they were scary and devious and they were cold blooded killers but now these vampires aren’t similar to the vampires before. Vampires
  • 4. movies nowadays targets teen viewers but in the past the scenes and also the target of viewers were adults, because a lot of the scenes that are shown in the movie are sex scenes and also vicious blood and biting senses that can’t be shown to kids. Which is a fact, vampire’s movie was Rated R movies whereas twilight is PG13. That transaction in ratings is to make the movie appeal to the younger audience. But why did the writers make this transaction. They changed the way people look toward vampires because, before they acted like animals just going on killing sprees and eating animals but vampires nowadays are more humane you can’t tell the difference by the way they act or behave in front of humans. (Kutzuba). Vampires aren’t just about eating, killing or drinking human’s blood but they have a significant similarity to humans. Vampires are stereotyped they are believed to be different from humans but they have a lot of humane characteristics they sleep, go out and they party as we seen in the two movies “Twilight” and “interview with a vampire” what I mean is that they live a sort of a normal life, but there are differences between them and humans, they sleep in coffins, cant go out in the sun they just go out in the night. Finally vampires are changed humans they have the same appearance features but the differ in the physical part. Vampires have changed from the beginning until now, they used to be these monsters that wear all black, never go out in the sun and they have no friends and just kill for fun. But nowadays vampires are more “civilized” they don’t just kill for fun and also they have friends and live a normal live they go to school have jobs they actually can go out in the sun, and that is a huge difference between them. • 6. even though individual students will only be working two from these pages. #73. x 3 – 2x 2 – 9x + 18 Four terms means start with grouping x 2 (x – 2) – 9(x – 2) The common factor for each group is (x – 2) (x – 2)(x 2 – 9) Notice the difference of squares in second group (x – 2)(x – 3)(x -+ 3) Now it is completely factored. #81. 6w 2 – 12w – 18 Every term has a GCF of 6 6(w 2 – 2w – 3) Common factor is removed, now have a trinomial Need two numbers that add to -2 but multiply to -3 Try with -3 and +1 6(w – 3)(w + 1) This works, check by multiplying it back
  • 7. together #97. 8vw 2 + 32vw + 32v Every term has a GCF of 8v 8v(w 2 + 4w + 4) The trinomial is in the form of a perfect square 8v(w + 2)(w + 2) Showing the squared binomial 8v(w + 2) 2 Writing the square appropriately #103. -3y 3 + 6y 2 – 3y Every term has a GCF of -3y -3y(y 2 – 2y + 1) Another perfect square trinomial -3y(y – 1)(y – 1) Showing the squared binomial -3y(y – 1) 2 Writing the square appropriately
  • 8. Here are two examples of problems similar to those assigned from page 353. 5b 2 – 13b + 6 a = 5 and c = 6, so ac = 5(6) = 30. The factor pairs of 30 are 1, 30 2, 15 3, 10 5,6 -3(-10)=30 while -3+(-10)= -13 so replace -13b by - 3b and -10b 5b 2 – 3b – 10b + 6 Now factor by grouping. b(5b – 3) – 2(5b – 3) The common binomial factor is (5b – 3). (5b – 3)( b – 2) Check by multiplying it back together. 3x 2 + x – 14 a = 3 and c = -14, so ac =3(-14)= -42. The factor pairs of – 42 are 1, -42 -1, 42 3, -14 -3, 14 2, -21 -2, 21 6, -7 -6, 7 We see that -6(7) = -42 while -6 + 7 = 1 so replace x with -6x + 7x. 3x 2
  • 9. – 6x + 7x – 14 Factor by grouping. 3x(x – 2) + 7(x – 2) The common binomial factor is (x – 2). (x – 2)(3x + 7) Check by multiplying it back together.
