2. Who would be the audience for your media
product?
Age
The age of my audience for my media product would be for 14 – 19 year
olds. I have decided to base my magazine at mostly teenagers as from
doing my own audience research. For example, I produced a
questionnaire on Survey Monkey and sent it out on Facebook to get
responses. From looking at the answers and feedback I got back you can
see that nearly all of my responses represent this age and so I know
from asking other questions and receiving their answers from other
questions I knew that my media product would appeal to this age group
and for them to be my target audience. I have tried to represent this age
by doing several different conventions. Firstly, the style of magazine I
have created suits this age. By this I mean the idea that I have featured
artists such as Beyoncé in it and a vast number of her fan base
represents this age so I knew conventions like that would appeal to this
audience. Also the language I have used throughout, especially in my
double page spread article, suits this age group as the lexis I have used
appeals to them and is not too over complicated for them to read. Also
to represent my age is the models I have used (although some represent
other artists) are of this age so their looks will appear to them as some
teenagers might want to copy their style and appearance looks. Also the
fonts I have used fit this age group. For example the masthead of my
magazine ‘SOUND’ is a style of font you would regularly see on this type
of age group.
3. Gender
The gender of my audience for my media product is mainly aimed at the
female gender. Similarly for age I have used several conventions to get
this across. For example I have used a female on my front cover and all
the images featured inside my magazine are of females. This shows the
‘Male Gaze’ and so females might want to get the style of the models and
so this would appeal to them greatly. Also to show that the gender of my
magazine would be female is that I have used very feminine colours as I
have used reds, purples and pinks and so this would attract the female
audience more than it would the male audience. Also if I was to distribute
this magazine and so would make more pages the advertisements and
branding which I would feature would appeal to females as I would
advertise shops such as ‘Topshop’ and ‘River Island’ and also advertise
other feminine products such as ‘Benefit Make-Up’ and ‘Ugg Australia’ so
these companies would appeal and attract more to females. Also the
subheadings and kickers on the front cover of my magazine would attract
the female gender more than the male. This is due to firstly the idea that I
have used a competition which features winning VIP Beyoncé
tickets, secondly, the idea that I have said that the magazine features five
Rihanna posters. Another convention I have used to represent the female
gender is that I have used make up brushes and mirrors which would
interest females more than it would males.
4. Class
I believe that the class of audience for my media product would be
of a middle class. This is due to several factors. One is that the
language I have used in the interview featured on my double page
spread as it represents a middle class feel to it. Also the price I
have featured it at is middle class as it is £2.00. This is because on
Survey Monkey when I asked how much someone would spend on
a magazine this came back at the average price so I knew people
would spend that much money on it if it was off to mass marketing
and publishing. Also to show that my audience for class for my
media product is middle class is that the models have a middle
class look about them as they are wearing smart clothes and also
have make up on and there hair has been styled to suit them.
