3. Dear organizers, participants, and guests of the LINEAPELLE
International Leather Fair!
Russian Tanning and Shoe Union welcomes you at the world’s
largest exhibition of the industry. Leather manufacturers
from all the continents came to Milan to show their best
products and to make new business contacts.
Natural leather is an irreplaceable material for shoes, clothes,
and accessories. It is used in the furniture and automotive
industries. Tanning resources are both a strategic material
and a national treasure for the countries all over the globe.
Since ancient times, leather, one of the most valuable natural
materials, played a special role in the human lives.
This is the first time Russia presents a collective stand at
LINEAPELLE. It unites 10 large companies from different
regions of the country: St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Ryazan,
Nizhegorodsk Oblast, Smolensk Oblast, Tver and Yakutsk.
Russian companies have been supplying their products
to almost 30 countries of the world for over 20 years.
Participation in this prestigious exhibition is a unique
opportunity to show the latest advances and original designs,
and to find new business partners.
Russia has rich historical experience in processing animal
skin into tanning goods. Traditionally, our country is seen
as a large producer of natural leather and its derivatives.
We can be proud of our national tanning school and unique
traditions. It is no coincidence that in the beginning of the
20th century, an expensive men’s fragrance called “Russian
leather” was highly popular in France. In those years, our
country was one of the leaders in the global tanning market.
Natural leather curried in Russia was in high demand and
made the basis for top quality products.
Today Russian tanning companies continue to modernize
production, improve their technologies, and abide by the
strictest ecological requirements. We can surely say that
modern Russian leather is a high-technology, competitive
product going in line with the latest trends of the global
leather industry.
Welcome to the collective Russian stand!
Nelli Myakunova
President of Russian Tanning and Shoe Union
Welcome to the visitors of the LINEAPELLE International Leather Fair Russian stand.
It is my particular pleasure to note that today our country is presenting competitive leather products at the exhibition
held in a fashion capital of the world.
Leather production and processing are the traditional branches of the Russian light industry.
Many regions of our country inter alia North Caucasus and Siberia have long-standing traditions of leather processing
and unique specialization in this sphere.
Besides, many contemporary Russian enterprises of leather industry were established in close cooperation with the
well-known worldwide manufacturers from Italy, Germany and other countries.
In recent years Russian leather industry has demonstrated active development and undergone significant upgrading.
The stakes are placed on the development of raw material processing technologies and increase of the end item
quality.
Guests and participants of the Fair will be able to get acquainted with the latest achievements of our companies and
estimate their industrial capabilities.
Combination of traditions and modern production facilities based on the best international practices allows Russia
to propose unique products in the international leather market.

6. JSC “Kozha” is one of Russia’s oldest
tanneries and the only tannery in the
Northwestern region of the country.
The company’s history began
in 1857. On the riverside of the
Malaya Neva, near the Gulf of
Finland, merchant Alexei Osipov
built a tannery. The merchant’s
relatives invested in this profitable
business. In a few years, the Tanning
Association was founded on the
base of the operating enterprise.
The military department was the
main consumer of its production.
The manufactory received orders
for equipment for the Imperial Army.
After the Great October Revolution,
the factory was nationalized. During
the Perestroika, it entered the
LENKOZHVEST joint venture among
other global manufacturers such as
Salimex-Schafstall and Salamander.
The factory underwent a technical
upgrade, which allowed it to produce
competitive products, 50% of which
were exported.

colors. The manufactory also uses
a special technique to produce
shoe upper leather with increased
elasticity, water absorbency, and
breathability. Such leather is also
used in the production of special
purpose (orthopedic) shoes. Another
area of manufacturing activity is
production of haberdashery leathers
with various patterns and artistic
trimming, the range of which is
constantly changing in line with
rapidly changing fashion trends and
buyers’ demands.

8. АO Russkaya Kozha has been considered
the flagman of Russia’s tanning industry
for many years. The Ryazan factory
is one of the largest and most modern
enterprises of the industry in Eastern
Europe.
The tannery in Ryazan was founded
in 1916. It was a semi-handicraft
manufactory with about 70 employees.
Before the Great October Revolution,
the enterprise was private and later on
became state-owned. In the Soviet years,
the factory produced over 40 kinds of
haberdashery and shoe leather. At the
end of the 1980’s, a new stage in the
history of the Ryazan enterprise began.
The old workshops were replaced with
modern manufacturing facilities of
480,000 square meters in area. In 2005,
the enterprise became a member of
SATRA – an international organization,
which conducts unique research and
works on technological developments in
the tanning industry.
Nowadays the Ryazan tannery is a major
Russian producer of materials for shoes,
furniture, clothes, and haberdashery.
Its share takes up 35% of the country’s
total output of leather. However, 48%
of its produce is exported, particularly
to Italy, Portugal, Spain, France, and
Asian countries. The enterprise carries
out the full cyclical turnaround, from raw
materials to leather finishing. Quality
control is exercised at every work stage.
Shoe leather is the main type of products.
Every year, with respect to global trends,
the company prepares two new leather
collections for the spring-summer
and fall-winter seasons. Each of them
contains samples, which are aniline
and semi-aniline trimmed, supple and
hard, smooth and embossed, grain and
corrected, as well as splits and velours.
Specialists of the Ryazan factory produce
collections with leather of non-chrome
tanning. Haberdashery types of leather
are used in the production of handbags,
belts, including army belts, in the binding
of expensive editions of books, and they
are also widely used in the production
of specialized products and equipment
for horseracing. The DIZZARO leather
collection is intended for manufacturing
of home and office lounge furniture. The
enterprise’s specialists have mastered
a new technology and started the
production of leather for automobile
interiors.

in Yaroslavl Oblast is a dynamically
developing factory, which promptly
and flexibly responds to the global
trends in tanning. Its capacities allow
for production of 60 million square

The manufacturing mill was founded
at the beginning of the 20th century
in the ancient town of Rybinsk located
at the confluence of three rivers:
the Volga, the Sheksna, and the
Cheryomukha. The town of Rybinsk
owes its name (the Russian word
‘ryba’ means ‘fish’) to the first-class
starlet, a species of sturgeon, which
was served during the feasts held
by the Russian tsars in the 18th and
19th centuries. The leather mill was
founded on the site of the distillery.
After the reconstruction in 1916, the
production of tough and chrome-
tanned leather started. During
World War II, the factory specialists
elaborated a new accelerated method
of tanning named ‘Rybinsky’.
The company’s facilities have been
updated several times. Nowadays
the workshops are fitted with
state-of-the-art equipment of the
internationally-recognized firms.
Choice raw materials and high-
quality chemical materials are used in
production. During its long history, the
plant has acquired regular domestic
and foreign business partners, both
among suppliers and purchasers.
The plant specializes in tough leather
for the shoe bottom, including
brightened leather and leather for
blinkers and saddles – plain and
with appliques, of various colors and
patterns. The plant also manufactures
Russian leather – a material for the
