Ashoka is a global organization that supports social entrepreneurs who address urgent social problems like education, the environment, human rights, and health. It selects and finances social entrepreneurs, develops models for collaboration, and builds infrastructures to advance social entrepreneurship. A social entrepreneur addresses crucial social issues, brings radically new solutions to revolutionize sectors, and has entrepreneurial qualities like vision, pragmatism, and determination. Two examples are given of social entrepreneurs from Indonesia who created innovative solutions in waste management and sustainable forestry that improved livelihoods and the environment.
