Can a Person lift an Elephant ?
LEVER
Machine: Machine is an engineering, device used to change the magnitude or direction of an applied force.  Lever  is one of the simple machine.
Lever: A lever consists of a beam which rotates around a  pivot point or fulcrum . It is acted upon by two forces: an  effort  exerted by muscles and a  load  due to an object’s resistance.   When the fulcrum is in the centre, the effort must be equal to the load.
When the fulcrum is moved closer to the load, less force is required to lift the weight. Levers allow a decrease in force but required movement through a greater distance  The  EFFORT  x its distance from the  FULCRUM The  LOAD  x its distance from the  FULCRUM =
50000 N 250 N Questions: A man of weight 250N wants to lift an elephant of weight 50000N. The fulcrum is at a distance of 3m from the elephant. What should be the length of the rod from the fulcrum to the man to lift the elephant. 3 m ?
The  EFFORT  x its distance from the  FULCRUM The  LOAD  x its distance from the  FULCRUM = 50000 N 250 N 3 m ? 250 x Effort = 50000 x 3 250 x Effort = 150000 Effort = 150000 /250 = 600 m
