For the past 12 years the University of Victoria Law Faculty & Louisiana State Law Center have surveyed incoming students on their personal technology ownership and usage in order to better understand the technology devices students are bringing with them to law school and how we can leverage those devices to provide a richer learning experience for students. In 2004 student data was gathered on laptop ownership and internet access. Questions were added over time, and we now collect data on the ownership and/or usage of: laptops, cell phones, tablets, email, collaborative document editing, desktop video, note taking, file backup, printing, and social-media. Current project goals include: - Discover technologies students were bringing with them to school and their use. - Explore ways to use personal technology for research and engaging instruction. - Identify means to provide equitable access to technologies for students who cannot afford to purchase it for themselves. By the end of the session participants will have a clear view of the technologies law students bring with them to school, as well as some potential ways those tools can be leveraged to provide more engaging instruction and better services to students.

Teachers are being challenged to find ways to integrate the use of ICT into their teaching to both address these outcomes and enhance what they have previously done on their classrooms. One approach to the use of the Internet that has a lot of potentials for both teachers and learners is the Web Quest. This study aimed at verifying (1) whether the students would be interested in reading texts extensively in English; (2) whether an interactive constructivist environment would make a difference in an extensive reading task. This quasi-experimental study examined the effect of the Web Quest in extensive reading. The experiment and control subjects were from two different classes attending the fifth semester of English department at STKIP PGRI Jombang, Indonesia. The results showed that there is no statistical difference between the groups (p=0.575). The results also indicated that both approaches (the Web Quest and traditional) lead to learning and both are valuable teaching strategies. The results showed that the majority of students in both groups had some difficulties in reading in English. General comments follow the next discussion and end with conclusion and suggestion which might be beneficial for language learners and EFL practitioners.

Our latest paper on Intellectual Ventures has been published in IAM Magazine (Issue #77). We look at how IV's strategy has shifted, how to reduce your risk of exposure to their portfolio, and what the future might hold for them. "The cover story this time around focuses on Intellectual Ventures. For many years, the firm kept its cards close to its chest - rarely speaking to the press, even more rarely discussing its business model and never, ever revealing the identities of its investors – but these days it is probably one of the most transparent operators out there. For example, it is now possible to take a close look at the vast majority of its patents and, as a result, to work out the kinds of strategies it might pursue to monetise them. That is exactly the task the article’s authors set themselves. What Erik Oliver, Kent Richardson and Michael Costa found is an organisation in the process of recalibrating its portfolio to make it smaller and more sharply focused on top quality. That will have significant consequences for the companies the firm approaches for licensing deals, the trio says." Joff Wild, IAM Blog, April 4, 2016

Development of a new mindset for eLearning Pedagogy: for the Teacher and the Learner. Abstract Teaching, like learning, involves a personal journey. This researched narrative records the role of technology integration in one instructor’s teaching practice, and examines how literature in the field accounts for ways eLearning technologies have kept the author and her students engaged in the process of learning. Dr. Tara Ashok of the University of Massachusetts Boston chronicles the personal eLearning tool kit she has selected for effective delivery of contents in different teaching formats. She posits the importance of developing a new mindset to adapt to emerging technologies and examines the literature and her own experiences suggesting how and why, eLearning pedagogy must include a focus on the development of a flexible / growth mindset.

Mastering JNKVV Entrance Exam: Previous Year Question Paper Analysis for MSc Ag Genetics and Plant Breeding Welcome to our comprehensive guide to cracking the JNKVV Entrance Examination for MSc in Agricultural Genetics and Plant Breeding. we'll dive deep into the analysis of previous year question papers, providing you with valuable insights, tips, and strategies to excel in this competitive exam. The Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya (JNKVV) is one of India's premier agricultural universities, and gaining admission to its MSc program in Genetics and Plant Breeding is a significant achievement. This video aims to help you prepare effectively by analyzing past question papers, highlighting important topics, and suggesting the best study strategies. Understanding the Exam Pattern Before we delve into the questions, it's crucial to understand the structure of the JNKVV entrance exam. The exam typically comprises multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that test your knowledge across various domains of genetics and plant breeding. The key areas usually covered include: Fundamentals of Genetics: - Mendelian inheritance - Chromosome structure and function - Genetic variation and mutation Plant Breeding Techniques - Hybridization methods - Selection techniques - Breeding for disease resistance Molecular Genetics - DNA replication, transcription, and translation - Molecular markers in plant breeding - Genomics and genetic engineering 4. Quantitative Genetics: - Heritability and genetic advance - Statistical methods in plant breeding - QTL mapping #### Detailed Question Paper Analysis Now, let's analyze a previous year’s question paper to understand the types of questions asked and the best ways to approach them. Section 1: Fundamentals of Genetics Example Question: Which of the following is NOT a part of Mendel's Laws? - A) Law of Segregation - B) Law of Independent Assortment - C) Law of Dominance - D) Law of Uniformity Analysis: This question tests your basic understanding of Mendelian genetics. To tackle such questions, ensure you are well-versed with the core principles of genetics. Revising basic concepts from standard textbooks like "Principles of Genetics" by Gardner et al. can be highly beneficial. Section 2: Plant Breeding Techniques Example Question: In plant breeding, the method where two plants with desirable traits are crossed is known as: - A) Backcrossing - B) Hybridization - C) Mutation breeding - D) Polyploidy Analysis: Questions in this section often require applied knowledge of breeding techniques. Focus on understanding the different methods of plant breeding, their applications, and examples. Books like "Plant Breeding: Principles and Methods" by B.D. Singh can provide comprehensive coverage of these topics.

Program code examples (known also as worked examples) play a crucial role in learning how to program. Instructors use examples extensively to demonstrate the semantics of the programming language being taught and to highlight the fundamental coding patterns. Programming textbooks allocate considerable space to present and explain code examples. To make the process of studying code examples more interactive, CS education researchers developed a range of tools to engage students in the study of code examples. These tools include codecasts (codemotion, codecast, elicasts), interactive example explorers (WebEx, PCEX), and tutoring systems (DeepTutor). An important component in all types of worked examples is code explanations associated with specific code lines or code chunks of an example. The explanations connect examples with general programming knowledge explaining the role and function of code fragments or their behavior. In textbooks, these explanations are usually presented as comments in the code or as explanations on the margins. The example explorer tools allow students to examine these explanations interactively. Tutoring systems, which engage students in explaining the code, use these model explanations to check student responses and provide scaffolding. In all these cases, to make a worked example re-usable beyond its presentation in a lecture, the explanations have to be authored by instructors or domain experts i.e., produced and integrated into a specific system. As the experience of the last 10 years demonstrated, these explanations are hard to obtain. Those already collected are usually “locked” in a specific example-focused system and can’t be reused. The purpose of this working group is to support broader re-used of worked examples augmented with explanations. Our current plan is to develop а standard approach to represent explained examples. This approach will enable an example created for any of the existing systems to be explored in a standard format and imported into any other example-focused system. We plan to follow a successful experience of the PEML working group focused on re-using programming exercises.
