17. MOVING ENERGY
Physical phenomena, energy, movement and light form the basis for the
artistic debate of Max Frey. His work “Rotor, 2005” is a rotating blade fitted
coloured LEDs and fluorescent tubes which create constantly changing
colour compositions in space. The observer is part of these paintings in light,
for as he perceives it, the rotating lights ultimately create pictures. When
capturing the light drawings in photographs, Max Frey works with long
exposure times, which makes the pictures appear more complete than in
the moment of direct observation. The result in an impressive interplay of
colour and shape, which remains richly dynamic even in the printed image.
After his training as a stone restorer, Max Frey, born in Graz in 1976, studied
visual media design at the University of Applied Art in Vienna / Class Brigitte
Kowanz. Max Frey currently lives and works in Berlin.
