Good morning – I’m Charlie Rapple, one of the co-founders of Kudos, a platform for managing research engagement and dissemination.
Researchers and institutions are under pressure to ensure that they engage with and reach a broader audience.
Funders are increasingly requiring, and even setting minimum amounts for expenditure on, engagement and dissemination.
But the gap between the research that people do, and the impact they achieve, is a bit of unknown territory - there is a sense of the “black box” in terms of understanding what it is that happens between those research and impact.
This is the gap we're trying to fill at Kudos.
We started Kudos in 2013 to help researchers take a more strategic approach to promoting their work. Over a quarter of a million researchers have signed up to use our service and an independent study showed that articles for which Kudos had been used had 23% higher readership.
We're now expanding our service to help people manage their communications more effectively - right from the beginning of a research project.
We help people collaboratively plan, manage, measure and report on their dissemination and engagement activities, so that they can become more efficient and more effective at maximising awareness of and interaction with their work.
I'm currently looking for groups to participate in an early access programme that will give them a competitive edge when it comes to managing their communications.
