The Holiday Tradition Of Las Posadas in Cabo San Lucas

  1. 1. THE HOLIDAY TRADITION OF LAS POSADAS Las Posadas marks the beginning of Christmas festivities in Cabo San Lucas, and GlobeQuest Travel Club shares how tourists can enjoy this tradition.
  2. 2. POSADAS • The arduous journey of Mary and Joseph traveling from Nazareth to Bethlehem are re-enacted through Las Posadas each Christmas season. Posadas is the Spanish word for "lodging," which illustrates that these ceremonies commemorate the struggle this biblical couple encountered seeking shelter so long ago.
  3. 3. • The processions are usually illuminated by candlelight, and may involve many townspeople called Los Peregrinos. • Children may be dressed as nativity members and a donkey may carry a girl dressed as Mary. • Songs are sung before a door is finally opened.
  4. 4. • Cookies, tamales and a hot holiday drink called Ponche may be served. • A piñata, usually shaped like a Christmas star, and nativity scene complete the event. • Los Posadas are customarily held the nine days before Christmas.
  5. 5. Posadas in Cabo San Lucas • Every evening the festivities take place in Cabo San Lucas from December 16 through the 24. • These nine days called "novenario," in Spanish, represent each of the nine months that Jesus grew in Mary's womb. • Cabo San Lucas can be the ideal vacation spot any time of year, but guests get the opportunity to see something unique around Christmas.
