INTRODUCTION 
COOLANT SEPARATOR has a filtration system for 
various machines tools & chips and scrap mediums.
WHAT IS 
COOLANT SEPARATOR? 
“COOLANT SEPERATOR” is a machine, which 
separates the Coolant from chips and scraps. 
The Coolant separator works on the principle of 
centrifugal force.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
What we have created?
WORKING PRINCIPLE 
• The rotating perforated drum surrounded with 
the casing container is fixed on the central shaft. 
• These are held at their own place while rotating 
but the loosely placed chips and the scrap 
particles are thrown centrifugally away from the 
central axis.
WORKING PRINCIPLE 
• The coolant is collected in the outer casing 
surrounding the perforated container. 
• Thus it is let out & gives filtered coolant, & chips 
and scraps are separated.
CUTTING COOLANT 
o The cutting coolant removes heat and lowers the 
temperature at the cutting zone. 
o It also increases tool life. 
o The power consumption is also less while using 
lubricant.
CUTTING COOLANT 
o In a workshop which has a variety of machine tools 
and different materials for machining. 
o It is not economical to stock a large variety of 
cutting coolants to meet all the requirements. 
o In such shops, rationalization of cutting coolants is 
essential. 
Thus, compatibility of the coolant with different systems 
is of vital importance.
MAIN OBJECTIVE 
To separate the chips and scraps assuring that 80-90 % of the 
coolant is removed from it.
BASIC OBJECTIVES OF THE 
PROJECT 
i. To separate the coolant from the chip and scrap 
solution. 
ii. To dry up the chips and scraps. 
iii. To reduce the machining cost. 
iv. To avoid wastage of cutting and lubricating coolant. 
v. To extend the life span of working fluid and tools 
significantly as well as to improve processing 
precision and speed.
APPLICATIONS 
It founds applications for separating the coolant from 
the scrap and chips of the following machine tools:- 
i. Lathe machine. 
ii. Shaping machine. 
iii. Grinding machine. 
iv. Automats. 
v. Milling Machine, etc. 
Generally, where chips are produced and coolant is 
used for lubrication purpose.
ADVANTAGES 
i. Properties of the metal to be formed is not changed 
as the coolant is separated from the chips. 
ii. It is economical for us to reuse the coolant again 
and again. 
iii. Also the scrap cost per kg of chip is reduced.
FUTURE SCOPE 
Paper filter can be connected in series with the 
cleaning system. 
This cleaner will give the more efficiency. 
The coolant collecting drum can be manufactured 
from the fiber material also.

  • 3. INTRODUCTION COOLANT SEPARATOR has a filtration system for various machines tools & chips and scrap mediums.
  • 4. WHAT IS COOLANT SEPARATOR? “COOLANT SEPERATOR” is a machine, which separates the Coolant from chips and scraps. The Coolant separator works on the principle of centrifugal force.

  • 9. WORKING PRINCIPLE • The rotating perforated drum surrounded with the casing container is fixed on the central shaft. • These are held at their own place while rotating but the loosely placed chips and the scrap particles are thrown centrifugally away from the central axis.
  • 10. WORKING PRINCIPLE • The coolant is collected in the outer casing surrounding the perforated container. • Thus it is let out & gives filtered coolant, & chips and scraps are separated.
  • 11. CUTTING COOLANT o The cutting coolant removes heat and lowers the temperature at the cutting zone. o It also increases tool life. o The power consumption is also less while using lubricant.
  • 12. CUTTING COOLANT o In a workshop which has a variety of machine tools and different materials for machining. o It is not economical to stock a large variety of cutting coolants to meet all the requirements. o In such shops, rationalization of cutting coolants is essential. Thus, compatibility of the coolant with different systems is of vital importance.
  • 13. MAIN OBJECTIVE To separate the chips and scraps assuring that 80-90 % of the coolant is removed from it.
  • 14. BASIC OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT i. To separate the coolant from the chip and scrap solution. ii. To dry up the chips and scraps. iii. To reduce the machining cost. iv. To avoid wastage of cutting and lubricating coolant. v. To extend the life span of working fluid and tools significantly as well as to improve processing precision and speed.
  • 15. APPLICATIONS It founds applications for separating the coolant from the scrap and chips of the following machine tools:- i. Lathe machine. ii. Shaping machine. iii. Grinding machine. iv. Automats. v. Milling Machine, etc. Generally, where chips are produced and coolant is used for lubrication purpose.
  • 16. ADVANTAGES i. Properties of the metal to be formed is not changed as the coolant is separated from the chips. ii. It is economical for us to reuse the coolant again and again. iii. Also the scrap cost per kg of chip is reduced.
  • 17. FUTURE SCOPE Paper filter can be connected in series with the cleaning system. This cleaner will give the more efficiency. The coolant collecting drum can be manufactured from the fiber material also.

Editor's Notes

  1. The coolant being viscous and liquid easily gets separated and is collected in the outer casing surrounding the perforated container.
  2. When the chips and scraps are separated from coolant, then the left out dried chips are collected together and they are sent for recycling. Therefore, they are again heated up and melted and are used for making machine parts or components. So, if there is coolant present while heating in the furnace, the property of the metal which is going to be formed is changed.
  3. To ensure a very high of filtration degree paper filter can be connected in series with the cleaning system. The primary filtration is done by the cleaners & secondary by paper filtration. This cleaner will give the more efficiency. The coolant collecting drum can be manufactured from the fiber material also.
