2. AUTHOR’S BIOGRAPHY.
ROADL DAHL(1916-1990).
Born on September 13, 1916, in Llandaff,
South Wales, to Norwegian parents, Harald
and Sofie (Hesselberg) Dahl.
Graduated from Repton School in 1933
After graduation he went to work for the Shell
Oil Company of East Africa, served in the Royal
Air Force as a fighter pilot and he became a
Wing Commander.
He was married to actress Patricia Neal, on
July 2, 1953 .
3. His career started when he was inspired by
meeting with C.S. Forester with his article
‘A piece of cake’ which was published in the
‘The Saturday Evening Post’.
In 1943 Dahl wrote his first children's book,
The Gremlins. Eleanor Roosevelt read it to
her grandchildren and liked it so much that
she invited him to have dinner with her and
the President at the White House.
Dahl is widely known for his stories and
poems mostly for the children including :
Charlie and the chocolate factory (1964),
The BFG (1982), Revolting rhymes (1982).
