  7. ATL-AAA123-20071121- May have noticed on slide one that there are 4 courses that we think all have high social impact why this one? Already similar one in duke. Chris gergen. Summarize program it integreates what they are learning into their carreers and their social engagement. We think this need is profound in several levels 1-students are engaging in social ideas in an unstructured format. Duke and unc should provide a framework for students to engage with these questions. 2-limited exposure to real life situations and social innovation. Social collaboration course gives them a structure to achieve this. Both meets student demand and desires, and also meets area of university’s mission: academic “ superior liberal education, not only to intellectual development duke.edu/web/ouf/mission.html *in voice over, talk about things in bottom of page, but do not have on slide. Current highly regarded courses do not have the capacity to meet student demand. 9. Would you be interested in taking a course in which you launch and support a social venture (project with a social focus and outcomes)? Yes   83 81% No   20 19% Course and structure already proposed to start in 2008 at Duke taught by Christopher Gergen (PPS144s in Enterprising Leadership Initiative, part of Hart Leadership Program) Expansion of proposed ELI course to include UNC students is seen as an ideal model; however, increased sections of the course would be required Increased faculty leadership at UNC needs to be identified
  8. ATL-AAA123-20071121- Voice-over notes: #2 need: Annual meetings, (semi-annually?) with full faculty SI group -Set up by steering committee -students could send out information or have a presentation, etc. -provides social opportunity for #1 need: no integrated organization to work at determining long-term direction strategitc SI initiative within and across campuses: steering committee Voice-over notes No formal entity to consider stragic innitiatives for social innovation across Duke and UNC. Historically, Duke and UNC have lacked clear faculty leadership within Social Impact space “ lack of clear and consistent faculty leadership in faculty innitiative We want to drive the creation of a community of faculty who collaborates and better a greater social impact. With our support, and your investment of knowledge and information, we can relatively quickly create a a more dynamic community who is thining about how their work and classes help the world. Show demand. Inspire them, end with easy, actional things that they can do. social impact faculty steering committee Set strategic vision for social innovation at Duke and UNC Serves as the primary liaison between faculty, Seeds, and students Hosts annual meeting of all Faculty Social Impact Group Need 2: Solution: quarterly steering meetings, annual fac. Group meetings -Facilitate better communication, collaboration between departments . -Create social opportunities to create academic opportunities. Need 3: faculty and student leaderships: similar people aren’t being connected because of superficial barriers 15. Have you worked with faculty on an academic or extracurricular project?
