2. The dietary pyramid of the ancient Greeks
As we can see, the diet of the ancient Greeks is based on grain and vegetables.
It is worth mentioning here that, in antiquity, the wheat - the zea as it was called - was
considered one of the healthiest and most suitable cereals for humans.
3. The diet of ancient Greeks compared to the
contemporary Greeks
4. The diet of ancient Greeks compared to
the contemporary Greeks
We notice that the dietary pyramid is the same as that of the Ancient
Greeks
Ancient Greek people used to work out on a daily basis.
That time, people cultivated the products which they consumed on their
own, with great effort. That was a very good form of exercise too.
Also the products were organic, because pesticides had not been
discovered yet
while in the present season the food is poisoned with dangerous
substances.
5. Traditional Greek recipes
Souvlaki
Souvlaki is a popular kind of traditional Greek fast food
consisting of small pieces of meat and sometimes vegetables
grilled on a skewer.
It is usually served with grilled bread, or in a pita wrap with
garnishes and sauces, or on a dinner plate, often with fried
potatoes.
The meat that is most frequently used in Greece is pork,
although chicken, beef, and lamb may also be used.
Kayanas with pepper and onions
A blend of eggs and tomatoes cooked in the pan accompanied
by feta cheese, onions and green peppers.
6. Traditional Greek recipes
Pastitsio
Pastitsio is a Greek and Mediterranean baked pasta dish that
contains ground beef and béchamel sauce.
Greek salad
Greek salad or rustic salad is a salad in Greek cuisine. Greek
salad is made with pieces of tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, onion,
feta cheese, and olives (usually Kalamata olives), typically
seasoned with salt and oregano, and dressed with olive oil.
Common additions include green bell pepper slices or berries of
capers (especially in the Dodecanese islands).
Notably, the Greek salad is often seen as a farmer's breakfast or
lunch, as its ingredients resemble those that a Greek farmer
might have on hand.
